      Your killing me Cody. I have been fixated on the sbbn031 seiko tuna for a long time. Saving it as a reward for getting my workshop project completed. No more watch videos for 8 months please. This watch fetish is a torment.

      Wranglerstar love watching your videos. I would like to know if you have the hardlex crystal on your tuna. Or if you did what a lot of people do and have an aftermarket sapphire crystal installed. Also if you have the hardlex, have to you gotten scratches on the face. If so can you buff them out? If you can can you make a video and show how to do that. Thanks

      Cody, just a heads up Seiko came out with a slimmer solar version of the Tuna. I just picked up the SNE498, which is a modern of the Seiko Gold Tuna. I love it so far. But the original Tuna's are still dear to my heart.

    Oh, man. You don't know one of the main advantages of Nato straps. You CAN wash them! Just put some washing powder into a mug, add some warm water there, let the washing powder dissolve, put your dirty Nato strap there, shake the mug a little bit and leave it for 4-6 hours. then take the strap out of the mug, rinse it well - and you'll have your lovely Nato strap as new.

    I love the NATO bands, and have worn them exclusively for a few years now. To wash them, I throw them into a sock, and add them to a load of laundry. They come out looking good as new!

    Cody, just a little info since I know someone will correct you. Natos and Zulus both come in a single layer of nylon and a double layer of nylon. Zulus call them 3 ring or 5 ring versions.
    Differences between most Natos and Zulus is this:
    Natos are usually thinner (the original style are), have thinner/square hardware, and usually a two layer nylon.
    Zulus are mainly single layer nylon, rounded hardware, and usually thicker material.
    My Toxic Rogue strap is a mash up, I use Zulu material (super robust) and nato design of hardware.

      Thank you for the info mate! since i have skinny wrists i might choose nato over zulu bc the material is thinner

    TGV from the Urban Gentry would be pleased to hear you think he’s all knowing. Watches are one of my great passions, and I have learned a lot from the Urban Gentry over the years. I have several NATOs from Toxic which I quite like, and BluShark makes a killer NATO, too. My favorite NATO is made by Haveston, who make NATOs with historical military color schemes.

    The initial debut of the NATO strap was by the British Ministry of Defence (MoD) in 1973. Back then, there was only one version and it had a singular tone: admiralty grey. Nicknamed the G-10, British Special Forces were required to fill out a G-1098 form before being issued the strap.

    • @Ferien7
      @Ferien7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The G10 nato originates from 1973. The classic nato strap design long predates 1973, however. Nato straps were used during WWII. Earlier designs using a different keeper system also were used. The concept of the nato strap is much older than 1973

    Hi Cody, I also had a Seiko Tuna and had many years of good service from it until one day when I lost it. for a while I did not get another watch as my phone had the time on it and I just used that. I was in our local LIDE shop and saw a cheap knockoff at just £3:00. I picked it up and read to my amazement that it was water proof. I have gone swimming with this and have had it now for eight years and it is still going strong (apart from a new battery) I have never come across another of these watches but this one is great I have even worn it when diving up to fifty meters without any problems.

    Thanks for this. I came upon your channel when looking for an electric drill. I saw that you had the wonderful Tuna, because I'm a watch geek that also learnt a lot from TGV, The Urban Gentry. So, I was chuffed to bits, just now, to find that you did a Nato strap video. They are great, and just this week have bought a green NATO and a beige one. I am an ex photographer with the Royal Air Force (British version of USAF) and these are issued to aircrew as they are so safe in an air crash! Mind you the watches issued whilst I was in were Seiko quartz chronographs and hey had fixed welded bars rather than spring bars. Anyway, yur video is very informative and I love your other videos, you have given me a lot of confidence in constructing stuff.

      Echo Whiskey nobody uses dive watches for diving anymore, we use dive computers now

    • @Echowhiskeyone
      @Echowhiskeyone 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Call me old fashioned or redundant, but I use a dive watch as backup to my dive computer and carry three dive knives every time I hit the water. You never know what will happen underwater.

    • @Finis0Terrae
      @Finis0Terrae 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      In commercial diving we use watches as well. We do not use dive computers because we have to calculate dive time with old school navy decompression tables. The depth gets measured with a pneumatic mechanism by the supervisor at the surface who also keeps the time and dive logs. In contrast to scuba diving, the air is virtually limitless in surface supplied air diving. Many divers however still keep a dive watch with them. It just gives you a feeling of safety and ease of mind and also something to occupy your mind when you have to wait for something alone in the dark.

      I wear a Victorinox Original Crono. Considered cheap by a lot of people (expensive for me). its been 3 years in an engineering environment on the factory strap (nato type). the bezel has what could be described as a "patina" and the face has held up well to occasional light welding splatter.
      Watches are made to be worn!

      $20 is a good deal from Toxic. I paid close to $40 for mine shipped, but it is the best Nato strap I've owned. I've been through a lot of Amazon specials and have probably spent more on lots of cheap straps that just sit in a drawer now, while my Toxic is my daily. Those straps are really good i have had nato straps in the past and they are really comfy to wear and do not dig into your wrist like a metal strap would but i have found that if you wear them alot then they can become a little stinky due to them absorbing the sweat from the top of your wrist and any time your hand passes your nose you get a horrible whiff. If you wash them now and then in the washing machine with your clothes then they are like new again.

    I use to be a watch and strap nut but as being a delivery driver for refrigerated goods and using a hand truck. Some of the walk in coolers doors were so tight they would rip the watch off my wrist and end up in a bucket of raw chicken or a fresh bucket of hot soup cooling off in the cooler .YUCK. I enjoy your videos and candid outlook on your life in a positive way.

    Tristano is a good friend of mine. It's really cool to hear that you watch his channel! Check out the FB page Urban Gentry watch club. Great place to learn and share your watches.
    Cheers.

    Originally they were called 'Strap, Wrist Watch' by the British military, and were only availlable in Admiralty Grey.

    Try scrubbing them clean with a bar of ivory soap! Works for me to de-stinkify mine! :-)

      I was having to do that weekly. Changed to wearing it in the shower and letting it dry on my nightstand overnight. Haven't had to scrub it for near on 2 years now.
      So either it works or I've gotten used to the smell...

      I tried that with my Seiko 5 because its also water resistant but it's still hella stonkin so i guess i'm back to scrubbing them weekly!

    Well, it's true, you don't know a lot about watches....but I too am digging the Urban Gentry! I can see why you thought you'd be fine swimming with that Hamilton, but ya....you can't, as you found out. When watches say that they're either good for 30 or 50 meters (3 or 5 atmospheres), that means "don't ever swim with them, EVER. If a watch says 100m, 150m, 200m, etc...swimming is cool, though I don't ever get in the H2O with anything rated under 150m. Scott Sherman

    Some great straps there I totally agree, they can transform your watch and it’s purpose /application to tasks we undertake.
    you almost have more straps than you do loctite 😂
    You just know the haters will pick up on this too which is ludicrous! I bet they have a dozen ties in their closet but I guess that’s ok by their standards...
    maybe make a video where you are sporting a different strap every time you are in front of the camera lol.
    Love your videos they really brighten my day.

    Hey! You know that you can wash them in the washing machine, right? Just fasten them to the belt loops on a pair of pants or something :) I do it all the time.

    I've been watching Wranglerstar for years. I've only commented a few times on videos since I've started watching. I was readying comments on this video. A number of people are making comments about Wranglerstar trying to generate TH-cam content and such. I couldn't disagree more. I'm not into watches or watch bands either, but I do appreciate someone who is. We all have things we care about, and are particular about. Wranglerstar created this video about something he cares about. This video was not interesting to me at all. I'm sure glad Wranglerstar made it though, because it is an interest he has. I happen to be very particular about my boots (I think more so than Wranglerstar is about his. Someday I hope to give Wranglerstar a few pointers on boots). I work with people who could careless. So, I think I understand Wranglerstar.

      Right on. Besides, if someone doesn't like the video they can take a long walk off a short pier. No one forced them to watch it.
