Kakao taxi is harder for foreigners I think because of the way you pay?

I have given up traveling at 86 yrs. In my early years of travel most trips were affected by the aged who require so much attention. Because I have chosen not to be the person delaying the boarding of the ship or plane, that doesn’t mean that I can’t travel through your eyes. I look forward to your travel videos through Korea or elsewhere. Bon voyage Dan!

This is a great video for foreigners visiting Korea and living in Korea. Naver maps is a total must. Google doesn’t work here. Naver is always up to date and you can even download an English version of it too. It’s been a total lifesaver for me.

Papago was great for sightseeing since a lot of places dont have English maps. I went to a few botanical gardens and parks that had maps only in Korean.
If I recall, Danny actually told me about it when I visited and it saved my life later during my trip.

Just returned from first trip to Seoul and all your suggestions are top notch! I used all of them! Tried to get to Zanuek but from where I was it’s too far. Definitely my first stop next time! All of them are easy (I’m 61) Papago VERY useful. Looking forward to getting to Korea again!

Papago really saved me! I lost my passport and at the Daegu police station nobody spoke English... but with papago they understood me and helped me. Naver was also very helpful. I used Naver for the underground too. On my last trip I didn't have the taxi app (I will use it for my next trip), I showed the address to the taxi driver, but he could only read Korean, so I showed the address via Naver and he figured out where to go !

    Hi Dan,
I’m finding your videos really helpful, especially as I plan to visit Korea in the near future. Your content is really useful and refreshing, so thank you.
Being cyber security conscious, especially in this age of technology I did some additional research around the app security of Kakao Talk and was disappointed to note that it does not have end to end encryption of its messages and one has to actually select ‘secure chat’ each time in advance. It might be worth sharing this info with your followers next time you do a similar video 😊

Honestly, never used the Metro app... I just used a map of the lines since the terminals are really well labeled for where the lines were.
Kakao Taxi, on the other hand, I used the hell outta that thing. There is an English version of the app too, which is handy for foreigners. You can be very specific about where you want to be picked up (like if you're walking somewhere and want the taxi to meet you there) and let's you track the taxi's location at all time.

Is it difficult to travel throughout the country bc of the language barrier? We’re currently learning the Korean language but bc it’s a tad on the difficult side it is taking a bit of time but we’re trying so we aren’t completely clueless when we get there.

The automatic translation of menus and other things were actually very helpful when I was traveling there and Japan. Though I used Google lens. So you can use papago in Japan as well?

Thanks for your videos. Very useful and insightful information. I'm looking forward to going there. I'll be staying right down the road from your bar, at Oakwood Premiere. May have to stop by. If so, see you in 2 1/2 weeks, if you're there. Thx.

OMG, naver maps is frustrating and I wish I didn't have to use it... but it is necessary at times. Kakao maps is so much better in almost all regards. The locations are more up to date with naver and of course, almost everyone will send you a location via naver and not Kakao maps.

Not sure if Kakao map is more up to date but when it comes to like local businesses I think naver is more rooted in our local daily lives? ( for the older generation)
Naver map is frustrating sometimes but I feel like it’s more accurate because people have been using it for longer

Hi Dan. Informative video it was. Is it possible for an international student studying in SK to start a part time English teaching job?

We lived in Korea for a while back in 2018 and we wanted to go back to visit in November. I heard that with the recent Korea popularity, locals are less welcoming of foreigners. Is this true? I miss the food...

Locals are less welcoming of foreigners? no way! there were videos online talking about some clubs not allowing foreigners but you know how media doesn't fully represent reality. everyday living wise.. it's the same. people are more used to seeing foreign travelers actually

I was there in Sep of 2022 and everyone was really nice. I was even on a tour of one of the palaces that was in Korean (since it was the last tour of the day) and there was a nice man translating for a few of us foreigners... just some random guy not working for the tour.
