I was ecstatic to see John return to the Flash after so many years. I own the original Flash series from 1990 on DVD. Dude was fit back then and didn’t really need that muscle suit. Lol. Great interview brother as always
Same! And it's awesome how he managed to return in the suit as that iteration of the Flash AND played Jay Garrick later on lol. This is the Barry Allen I remember -- the 90s version.
It was cool and awesome to bring him back and to even be able to use the old suit in some episode later was like a tribute or honoring the old show any. so hope can get that show and others on dvd later anytime.
It took a minute while watching this to remember/appreciate that Michael has also played The Flash in animation. He was a great Wally! I’d love to hear him reflect on that experience in relation to his perception of the live action depictions of the Flash.
I love the genuine love in this whole show. Knowing that some parts were pure emotion makes you visualize the show in a different way. They were emotionally connected and that's beautiful!
Yep, that line about being proud to be his son, gold. People forget how good the writing used to be on The Flash now that the writing has become dog shit. Such a shame. Honestly the show needs to revamp itself if it's gonna continue. Total soft reboot within universe. New cinematography style, new writers, the works. The whole show has to change because what it's become is embarrassing. Something must be done.
When I saw there would be a new "The Flash" show I remembered back to the one from the 90's, and how I was a fan of it. Then when I heard John Wesley Shipp would be on it I was just ready to watch it. It was a great 360 symmetry of one generation of Flash to the next. This time though JWS played Barry's father and then other incarnations of the Flash from different Earths. Great way to pay homage to the original show and actors. I just wish the new series would get back to its roots of season 1 & 2, the last couple of seasons have gone off the rails for me. Still enjoy this version of Flash with Grant Gustin, and he is a lot better than the DCU movies Flash with Ezra Miller.
To be fair to Ezra Miller; he hasn't had a chance to grow into the role and flesh out the character his way - not like how Shipp and Gustin did during their time as the speedster in the series. WB pretty much screws up their own chance at a shared movie universe every chance they get. I know Marvel and Disney has some problems, but they've managed to semi-coherently do justice to their shared movie universe - something WB can't even do right.
Idk about not having a chance I kinda disagree cause being in 2 movies with the Justice league around especially when one of them was originally 4hrs long is more than enough time to flesh out how you portray a character. Maybe with Ezra’s solo movie that might change but even I doubt it’d be much different.
@@truealpha5676 his parts were bit parts. Snyder's Cut has him out a little longer, but the focus isn't on him despite him being the deus ex machina of the film via time travel cheat. That's not enough time to "flesh him out" in those short moments where he has lines.
@@obsidiansands you’re exaggerating it a bit, cause I just watched the movie last night and yea there WAS Plenty of time to flesh him out 😂 Cause he didn’t “just have lines” he actually played a role in the snyder cut, You just don’t think so simply because he doesn’t have a solo movie which is partially why I mentioned Flashpoint possibly changing that, but even then that’s hardly relevant because he’s already in 2 movies anyway. Even with a solo film its not really going to establish anything else we don’t already know other than his story so honestly your position is hardly valid not to be wordy lol.
Agree with just about EVERYTHING you touched bases on and more... & yes, I, too, also own the original (& best) Flash series on DVD likewise & watch them with every available chance I get!!!
Nice moment. You can see a sketch of Jay Garrick by comics artist Joe Staton in the background at 0:49. Joe did that sketch for John when they were both guests at the same comic con.
I gotta say, seeing the Flash of my childhood sacrifice himself caused some inner child tears. And seeing Mark Hamill in it as a bad guy blew my mind-this was pre-Batman so.
I was like amazed that they brought him into the flash show, I just felt like I was a kid again seeing the person who played as the flash in the original show, it always felt amazing to see him everytime he was on screen, then seeing him play as jay garrick and then especially when he got to play as the 90's flash again, was by far my most favorite flash moment seeing him wear the original suit once more and reveal to current flash barry allen that he was also flash barry allen. Will never forget the moments he is on the show each time.
during the first two seasons of The Flash. Henry Allen was one of the best characters he ever played like playing Barry's dad who was in jail for his wife's death that he did't do was a good story arc cause seeing him and Grant during the Iron Heights scenes were so emotional.
You know, it may not have lasted for very long back in the 90's. But we ALL loved The Flash show from back then. If it matters to anyone, the comic book nerd audience was into it at the time. My local comic shop had a big cardboard cutout of Flash and this was before you could just hit Amazon and buy a cutout of anyone. It just wasn't mainstream enough to last. I think that the exact same show, maybe if it came out even 4 years later with an internet audience to chirp about it on AOL chatrooms or something, would likely have met a much larger and more vociferous audience reception. I still remember it very fondly. It was there at the precipice of the geek culture takeover. Post Batman, pre X-men, and it will always be thought of as "one of the good ones". Cheers!
Though the series currently has its flaws. It will never be a good as when it first started but I still watch it cause this series is near and dear to my heart! Scenes like this reminds me why I LOVE the series!
I remember when he played the first flash show but ill be dammed if he dammed if he definitely doesn't look more like a Jay Gherick but I love John Westley Shipp he's such a good actor and such a wonderful person Grant and him make a perfect scene when done
These scenes were what made us love the early seasons of the show. Pure, raw emotions and action. Now the show is so, well, not great. Bad acting, corny jokes and characters
JSW is always a welcome presence on the Flash. Its like getting a warm hug from a beloved uncle whenever he's around.

Exactly
Totally 💯 agree
He was jacked

Holy Moly! Didn't realize he was the actor who played Lex also!
Sounds like that was a fun discovery moment.@@NicCrimson

He played two flashes, the 90'sflash and jay garrick flash. And also as flash's dad. He's awesome!!!!!!!
He also voiced Reverse Flash (Professor Zoom) in Batman Brave and The Bold.
@@thomaswedge42 thanks, i forgot about that.
Update, he played JSA Jay Garrick in Stargirl (S2E9), which aired (Oct. 5) after this interview.

Ayyyyeeee that's awesome
John Wesley shipp I remember him in MTV Teen Wolf and The Flash he's the best
Love this Wally and Jay interview! Flash on Flash!
It was an honor to meet Mr. Shipp at the Florida Supercon in 2018. A most remarkable man.
Having him come on the show was one of the greatest cameos ever.
I gotta say, seeing the Flash of my childhood sacrifice himself caused some inner child tears. And seeing Mark Hamill in it as a bad guy blew my mind-this was pre-Batman so.
They were actually pretty close in release.
The Flash came out after Batman: The Movie, I think the year after.
I always looove to cry! And that Sven was just beautiful❤️❤️

Any scene with Henry and Barry makes me cry I recently rewatched The Flash and I cried watching that scene.

I LOVE that he was in the CW show. I also LOVE HIS 1990's Flash arc ends in the "Elseworld" crossover event.
Very happy to see JOHN on the show,it just shows respect to the original cast.✌️
Found this channel today and ive been binge watching random videos. Really awesome host. Man you haven't aged since smallville!

It was awesome to see JWS come back. My son loves Grant as The Flash, and I love JWS as The Flash. Absolutely amazing filmmaking.
Wally West speaking with Barry Allen/Jay Garrick
My two favourite Flashes on one podcast!
Though the series currently has its flaws. It will never be a good as when it first started but I still watch it cause this series is near and dear to my heart! Scenes like this reminds me why I LOVE the series!
John Wesley Shipp is the best Flash and I hope to see him season 8 of the Flash
He’s a super smart guy.
Also David Nutter just knocks pilots outta the park like it's no big deal. Every. single. Time.
I remember when he played the first flash show but ill be dammed if he dammed if he definitely doesn't look more like a Jay Gherick but I love John Westley Shipp he's such a good actor and such a wonderful person Grant and him make a perfect scene when done
Watching John, all I could think was that if there is ever a Eugene Levy biopic..,
Awesome
Flash interviewing Flash about working with Flash...
Cool was Michael the voice for the animated flash. Haven't seen the animated justice League?
To be a great actor must take it's toll if you have to get into a mindset to make yourself so vulnerably emotional.
Two Flash right here.
I love that he was able to give his version of Barry a heroic send off in the crisis cross over event
These scenes were what made us love the early seasons of the show. Pure, raw emotions and action. Now the show is so, well, not great. Bad acting, corny jokes and characters
Wow
wait wtf is that ryan from the Warp Zone?
Isn't that Lex Luthor?
Yeah the host is Michael Rosenbaum who played Lex Luthor on Smallville, and also voiced The Flash (Wally West) on Justice League.
Love your interviews always. However John is why normal people hate actors. How full of himself!
sad he had to go slummin' on the CW show..... so so sad.
