Don´t you worry. At some time either between now and the premiere of the movie WB would have the series on Max. ...and maybe a new re-release of the series on DVD or BD.
I remember John Wesley Shipp playing Barry Allen's father in the CW Flash during the first 3 seasons until he was killed off, but then they brought him back as Flash from Earth 2 and the 1990's version as well.
I have to say I love the affection that Flash has shown towards this series. They have brought back John time and time again, as Barry's father, as another Flash, as Jay, etc. That affection has made me really respect the series.
I remember when this show debuted. I wanted to record and the only tape we had available was my mom's copy of Flashdance. So we recorded over FLASHdance with The Flash. And i watched it on loop for years.
I was lucky enough to find a copy of the show for sale for $10 last week. It’s such a fun show! I’m so grateful for how much respect John Wesley Shipp has for the character and the fans.
It's no wonder why the show was so expensive; as a kid, every episode felt like a movie! Thank you so much for covering this one! (And don't worry; you're far from alone as a die-hard 'Rocketeer' -fan! ; ) ) =)
John Wesley Shipp is so underrated. He was so good as Barry’s father. What is funny is that I don’t remember this flash show, which is crazy because I would have loved it.
I didn't know as much about comics back when The Flash first came out so I could only judge it on it's own merits and I loved it. It looked good and it was so much fun. All these years later I can appreciate it even more for how faithful it was to the comics during a time when that didn't happen. It was truly ahead of it's time.
Love the "What Happened" videos. I remember taping the Flash Pilot Episode. It was great. Please do a "What Happened to SLEDGE HAMMER!" Another great show that was gone too soon.
I remember seeing this show when I was 10. Loved it. Was so sad when it was cancelled. So many good shows ended up in the waste-bin due to events in the early 90's.
I loved this show when it first aired, mostly due to the score. Whn the 2 CD release came out, I was elated to have every note of it in my library...but sad we lost Shirley Walker.
When I was a kid there was this movie called _Hero At Large_ starring John Ritter. It came out in 1980, Ritter wasn't even playing an actual hero, he was playing an actor who played this hero called Captain Avenger at publicity events. Then he decided he wanted to try being a hero for real. The movie was a box office dud, panned by critics, and had an abysmal 2nd act... *I loved it!* With live action super hero movies at that time all there was was Superman and _this._ This had to count as a super hero flick...if it didn't, we lost 50% of the movies in this genre! I had recorded _Hero At Large_ on tape and watched it over and over. I still have a soft spot for it in my heart and I think it's a genuinely good movie...just as long as you can get through that 2nd act...
I loved this show, it got me into comics. So, when I saw John Wesley Shipp's Flash sacrifice himself (ala Crisis on Infinite Earths), I cried. It ended the journey of a childhood hero and reminded me of the friendless little comic book nerd I was. Full circle moment for me. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
JWS was my Barry Allen growing up. Such an emotional farewell to him during COIE. Grant Gustin is fantastic, as well, but takes nothing away from 90s Flash.
This show got me started on comic books and the superhero genre. I got goosebumps every time this Flash appeared on the new show. I get a little misty eyed when he sacrifices himself in crisis. I have the original gameboy game based on the series. The episode with Pollux was cool. The Flash will always be my favorite superhero!
Wow, I loved that TV show so many amazing cameos and players on and off-screen, and that costume with the muscles was something else. I just noticed the easter egg at @8:02 with the Debbie II homage/easter egg of H.R. Gieger's album cover for Debbie Harry's KooKoo, nice clip work.
I was 8 years old when it came on and devastated when it did not continue. I was a fan of Superboy and many other live action comic adaptations. No one born past 98 would understand the dark ages of this media. You did us proud JoBlo
This was of the most entertaining, nostalgic, things I've seen for fans born in the 70s that translated to how we felt in the 80s. Great, fantastic content!!!
I remember the original series brings back memories of my childhood. If I remember correctly, John Wesley Shipp is also in the CW series as well. I think he played Barry's father in the new version?
Picked up the entire series from best buy for $10 this past Saturday while steelbook hunting. It's cheesey but in a good way. Being in my 30s now I laugh at a lot of the scenes but as a kid in his single digits back in the 90s I loved this show.
The current Flash is also "cheesy". Comes with the package. Sure now FX are easily done and more affordable and they make it look very good. That being said, if one is to be nith picky it would be cheesy.
I have fond memories of being five andrunning around my living room whenever the theme music for this show came on. It was such a shame when it was cancelled.
This was my introduction to the flash, still remember the first episode and the episodes where he fights the ninjas. Ps during the 2000s I remembered it with Bruce Campbell as the flash. Now that would have been awesome!
I was MAD about that show! I mean it, i really loved it. I even made myself a Flash costume! John Wesley Shipp will always be the only Flash, for me. And the chemistry between Barry and Tina, Barry and Julio, it really made the show even better than it already was.
As a kid, i thought EP1 was a movie. Hence i only ever saw EP1. Have since found it on TH-cam and warched a few episodes. Slightly hard going these days as it's very dated. But I do like it. Nostalgic for the era, decent stories, somewhat more adult than a lot of comic adaptations at the time
He ran to the future and knew he would be a joke and hollywood would be a different beast north of 2018. So he ran to a diff universe... ...and never returned.
I grew up the same way and it’s why I embrace even the bad Comic Book movies,I never thought they’d exist. There wasn’t even a Spider-Man movie til I was 22,I’m still surprised X Men got there first but glad it did
Oh wow those TV guide ads really took me back. I was such a huge fan of the show, I'd save every advertisement that ran. Cut them out of the pages. Now you're making me want to dip into my storage locker and see if I held on to all of those... That and Strange Luck - that's a show that deserves a 'gone but not forgotten' ep of it's own if you can find it.
I agree on Rocketeer. For me it's one in a sort of trilogy of peroid comic super hero movies including The Rocketeer, The Shadow & The Phantom. All are quirky period movies that just have a certain feel to them that I really love.
I own the series and it still holds up. If anything, it got cancelled when it was startitng to feel like a comic book. Several fun things worth mentioning: 1- John Wesley Shipp not only played The Flash ´ s (2013) father and his Flash but he also played Jay Garrick. ...so, in every way, it started with him. 2- Amanda Pays also appeared several times in the current Flash series. 3- Mark Hamill also played The Trickster again in the current Flash. PS Yes, there´s DC´s Trinity but, beyond those, Flash is one of the mot beloved Justice League members.
I enjoyed this Flash back in the day and have it on DVD now, I'm also a fan of the current Flash, loved the fact they used John Wesley Shipp and Mark Hamill back as The Trickster, then a few other actors from the original in there, it all comes full circle,
I didn't get a chance to see this show. But it does look like it was pretty faithful to the show. Also nice node from the cw flash to this flash, by casting John Wesley Shipp.
Amazing episode. Just damn amazing and well crafted. I'll admit that Nostalgia did some of the heavy-lifting while watching it but thank you for some great content!
I remember watching this and thinking those effects are lame. Then when The Flash 2014 came around it blew my mind. And then whe John Wesley Ship guest starred I exploded. I am now a living particle.
2:30 - And I stand by you standing by that statement. Joe Johnston may have screwed up Jurassic Park 3 (Alan!), but both Rocketeer and Captain America 1 were almost in the same quality vein and level.
It wasn't entirely sticking to the source material, at least from a loyalty standpoint - I was a kid that didn't really know very many comic books, but I LOVED this show. I looked forward to it every time it was on.
I was so glad to see classic Flash, make an appearance on CW's the Flash, rubber muscles and all. I watched Flash, Lois and Clark, Superboy and reruns of Wonder Woman.
I actually got to fully watch this series a couple months ago, all of the episodes are (or were) on Tubi, it still holds up really well in terms of visual effects. I remember watching it back when I was a toddler in the 90s and it was a great show, but where I lived it only came on late at night so I'd have to stay up to watch it. The visual effects held up better than the Dean Cain Superman show, which aged terribly but still has good acting/chemistry between Terry Hatcher and Dean Cain.
Loved this show! One of my faves. I was hoping to meet John Wesley Shipp at London Comic Con some years ago but unfortunately he had to cancel. Gutted!
The show almost looks like a live action Batman the Animated Series in it's art deco, timeless style. Part of the score was even re-used in Superman the Animated Series in the episode Flash appears.
Oh I picked up this amazing TV show on DVD back when it was first released on that media. You nailed it on the time changes. I found it hard to watch as they kept changing the time slots up here in Canada. I blame the Gulf War coverage pre-empting the TV show as it's short life. Still, much like Babylon 5's Crusade and Firefly fans...I love this show as much as the other two. It does still hold up today.
Yeah we had nothing in terms of comic book movies back then. Starting with x-men in 2000, these kids have it great these days. I loved this show when it started. I'm glad the new show was able to last. Probably has gone on 4 years too long (outside of the crossovers which have been amazing) but still was great to see.
The first movie I seen in the theater was Batman 89 and was 9 years old and then the Flash TV show came out not long after that and I was hooked and then not Long after that the X-men, Spiderman, and Batman animated shows came out and was absolutely captivated and still am 30+ years later
I was actually upset learning they cast a brunette to play Barry Allen but about five minutes in I fell so madly in love with this show the opening credits and theme song would made me well up with tears of joy. Thirty years later it is very dated but still lots of fun to watch. Still the best version of the Flashs costume ever produced.
The 1990s The Flash is coming to Bluray baby! From Warner Brothers Archive, it's coming June 14th, it's a 4k remaster from original camera negatives, sadly no extras.

hi joblo good video. the flash 1990 is my favorit tv series
Don´t you worry. At some time either between now and the premiere of the movie WB would have the series on Max.
...and maybe a new re-release of the series on DVD or BD.
If u havent done the Rockford Files by now, i doubt you ever will.
@@dexterrileyis that’s challenge?
another great vid by the legendary Jesse....brought back good memories when i was 13 at the time and....George Bush puking ....LOL, classic man!
I like this show. Mark Hamill was fantastic as The Trickster. Seeing both him and this Flash show up in the Arrowverse was awesome.
Wrong show dumbassq
I remember John Wesley Shipp playing Barry Allen's father in the CW Flash during the first 3 seasons until he was killed off, but then they brought him back as Flash from Earth 2 and the 1990's version as well.
earth 3 not 2

I remember when this show debuted. I wanted to record and the only tape we had available was my mom's copy of Flashdance. So we recorded over FLASHdance with The Flash. And i watched it on loop for years.
Watch the end credits you’ll get a kick out of it. There’s a surprise for fans of the show
I was lucky enough to find a copy of the show for sale for $10 last week.
We had loads of those blank Memorex VHS tapes to record stuff off the TV back in the 90's
My mom bought me the dvd of this show when I was a kid. I loved it then and still love it now. Especially Mark Hammil as the Trickster.
I didn't know as much about comics back when The Flash first came out so I could only judge it on it's own merits and I loved it. It looked good and it was so much fun. All these years later I can appreciate it even more for how faithful it was to the comics during a time when that didn't happen. It was truly ahead of it's time.

Oh God, great memories. There was even Tim Burton's Batman poster easter eggs throughout the Flash 1990 series. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I loved this show when it first aired, mostly due to the score. Whn the 2 CD release came out, I was elated to have every note of it in my library...but sad we lost Shirley Walker.
My love for this show as a kid back then. Still love it today as a father. Soon I will show it to my son.
I still watch this show. I love it, it just sucked that I could never find this show on TV consistently.
When I was a kid there was this movie called _Hero At Large_ starring John Ritter. It came out in 1980, Ritter wasn't even playing an actual hero, he was playing an actor who played this hero called Captain Avenger at publicity events. Then he decided he wanted to try being a hero for real.

Fun fact: Both John Wesley Shipp and Grant Gustin are from Norfolk, VA. So we’re the home of the Flash!
Grant was just in town last week.
Also Grant gustin is born on the same year Shipp filmed his show.
Flash-90: Keep riding the lightning, son.
We need Keaton and Shipp to share the screen
Fuck yeah we do
I loved this show, it got me into comics.
Imagine this version of the Flash during crossovers the Superman: The New Adventures of Lois and Clark tv series, interesting plot twist.
I honestly love the effects in this show, I’d say they hold up pretty well!
This show got me started on comic books and the superhero genre. I got goosebumps every time this Flash appeared on the new show. I get a little misty eyed when he sacrifices himself in crisis. Love the rocketeer! I saw it at the drive in as a kid when it came out.
I remember the show but never watched it. I've never been a fan of The Flash, but did love the look of the uniform, updated but still iconic.
The '90 Flash was one of my favourite shows when it came out.
I liked the flash show. I only hated how they changed the date a lot. There was no internet at that time.
Ahh..no wonder i said what happened to Flash when it dissappeared
I remember the original series brings back memories of my childhood. If I remember correctly, John Wesley Shipp is also in the CW series as well. I think he played Barry's father in the new version?
He did indeed and he even reprised his role as his Flash in a later season episode.
Can’t wait to hear your thoughts when you finish watching the video
Picked up the entire series from best buy for $10 this past Saturday while steelbook hunting. It's cheesey but in a good way. Being in my 30s now I laugh at a lot of the scenes but as a kid in his single digits back in the 90s I loved this show.

You should have mentioned that Shipp also played Jay Garrick
Nice choice this, I've had the DVD set on a wish list for ages and I will now hit go on it. Thanks.
I would love to see , Flash:animated series.
My grandma and I watched this every week when I was a kid.
I loved this show, the costume was cool, and I feel they did a could job of showcasing the powers. I was very upset at the time when it got cancelled.
I like that the guy that plays the Flash in this series would later on play the Barry's dad in the 2014 Flash series.
my heart melted when this barry returned in the crisis event
I used to tape this show, i remember they showed it on Saturday afternoons in the summer of 91.
I didn’t even like DC but as a comic book nerd this was mandatory viewing. Watched faithfully every week.
notice the raffic cars half of them are contemporary (at time of filiming) the other ones 50s and 60s ones
Flash in an Adidas red track suit would’ve too funny.
The Central City here had murals, themed neighborhoods, and a real Midwest feel throughout. The best rendered superhero city on TV.
An amazing love letter to the show, thanks for that! Have you ever considered doing the same for the "Robocop" show from 1994?
It’s on the list
@@Arroyo2099 Awesome news!
Amazing video!!! Do Lois&Clark show next!!!
LOVED this show when it came on,I was a HUGE Flash fan.NEVER thought there'd be a tv show about the Flash.
Thank you for this I was a huge fan of the show so sad that it ended... there was hardly any superhero shows are any good ones for us nerds back then.
The Arrowverse Flash show was fun but I swear every time JWS popped up, no matter who he was playing, the show was elevated by his presence alone.
I have fond memories of being five andrunning around my living room whenever the theme music for this show came on. It was such a shame when it was cancelled.
The original 90's flash actor also played Jay Garrett on arrowverse and he voiced the reverse flash on Batman brave and bold cartoon show
This was my introduction to the flash, still remember the first episode and the episodes where he fights the ninjas. Ps during the 2000s I remembered it with Bruce Campbell as the flash. Now that would have been awesome!
Michael Rosenbaum not only played Lex Luther in Smallville, but he also voiced the Flash in the justice league cartoons.
Awesome! You're so right on how rarely film and tv got it right with superhero properties. Flash was my favorite of the time.
I was MAD about that show! I mean it, i really loved it. I even made myself a Flash costume! John Wesley Shipp will always be the only Flash, for me. And the chemistry between Barry and Tina, Barry and Julio, it really made the show even better than it already was.
I remember this series when Scifi aired it along with M.A.N.T.I.S.
Man I remember m.a.n.t.i.s what a blast from the past.
Ooh trying to recall Mantis now..?
As a kid, i thought EP1 was a movie. Hence i only ever saw EP1. Have since found it on TH-cam and warched a few episodes. Slightly hard going these days as it's very dated. But I do like it. Nostalgic for the era, decent stories, somewhat more adult than a lot of comic adaptations at the time
I loved this show. It's the reason Flash became such a favorite superhero for me as a kid.
The Rocketeer was amazing!
Mark Hamill as trickster in this show and in the newer flash is just amazing
Trickster you stole my heart thank you
He ran to the future and knew he would be a joke and hollywood would be a different beast north of 2018. So he ran to a diff universe...
...and never returned.
The Rocketeer was Disney's first superhero/comic movie, and I also a big fan.
It's pretty tough to dislike a movie when Jen Connelly is on screen.
I loved 90s flash as a kid! Mark Hamil made the show memorable!
I loved this show when I was a kid! Great to see it getting some love in 2023!
I grew up the same way and it’s why I embrace even the bad Comic Book movies,I never thought they’d exist. There wasn’t even a Spider-Man movie til I was 22,I’m still surprised X Men got there first but glad it did
The suit really holds up after all these years.
For the time period, this show was great. It was one of those times I would actually plan week to week to specifically watch this show.
I used to love this show when i was a kid! Great video.
I LOVED this show when I was a teenager. It was mid-nineties reruns on Sci-Fi channel after school.

Ya gotta do The Sentinel!!!!!
(Gone But Not Forgotten)
I agree on Rocketeer. For me it's one in a sort of trilogy of peroid comic super hero movies including

Flash was shot on film, so HD is possible! So's 4k buuuut...
A fan converted if to 1080p
It wasn't entirely sticking to the source material, at least from a loyalty standpoint - I was a kid that didn't really know very many comic books, but I LOVED this show. I looked forward to it every time it was on.
I was so glad to see classic Flash, make an appearance on CW's the Flash, rubber muscles and all. I watched Flash, Lois and Clark, Superboy and reruns of Wonder Woman.
I loved The Flash (original TV show). Today's Flash TV show started out great and now so happy it's ending.
