  • This is the first of two videos on knowing how much and where to but weight in your handmade lures. I think this information will change how you make your fishing lures. www.amazon.com... / engineeredangler www.instagram.... / engineered-angler-9424...

    Sorry folks I missed the last step in getting the density of a block of wood. After you calculate the volume, in cubic centimeters, weigh the block of wood and divide the weight into the volume.

    Great stuff Franko!
    There are lots of lure making channels on the web, it's the "nerdy stuff" that makes the Engineered Angler the best one!
    A block of wood can be roughly shaped into a "lure" that, with some luck, has some sort of action... and might even catch fish.
    Your videos are special because they explain how to design a lure to get the action we want. I enjoy the details, the nerdy stuff for the different styles of lure you make!
    Cheers!

    have been making lures for decades, the most difficult to get to swim are the large, 200mm+, floating stickbaits, an insight into the design, buoyancy & weight parameters for this type would be appreciated. They are the most expensive, and obviously the ones you definitely want to make yourself.

    Thank you so much for the movie!!! It often happens to me that when testing in the bathroom, the game is not very interesting, but on a real pond everything is fine, plus it is possible to additionally animate the bait with a spinning game during wiring.

    Partial to the water quality. Salt water, stained water, hot and cold water will alter the lure. So will the line or leader.

    well done, I actually followed along pretty well. I'm looking forward to part 2. I sometimes have more issues with balance of a lure depending on shape. It seems the more torpedo shaped lures are easier to get right, When I try a more bluegill shape -that's when i run into problems with stability.

    Thanks Franco, I do have a question regarding your 5-10% estimate for a slow sinking lure. Is that extra weight based on the based on the 20g measured via density or displacement. Or the corrected weight that already had 3-5% added to it?

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Its a correction factor to the volume / target weight. (20.0g)

    • @EngineeredAngler

    Interesting you just put this video out as I was going to ask you for help or give you a challenge. If you peek at my last video I attempted to make a lure from a milk jug using vacuum forming. Are you able to pull this one off or give some advice? I want a hard bait front and soft plastic tail as my challenge to myself.

  • @blackwood1431
    @blackwood1431 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Hello, Franco! Thanks for a great video! Really informative, as always!
    I noticed you measured the weight of the lure that already had the tie-on eye and the hook hanger installed and used that number (14 gr) to calculate the volume of the lure. If I recall correctly, in your previous videos you would measure the wooden body only and then divide it by the specific density of the wood?

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes...it was specifically made for the video.

    • @blackwood1431
      @blackwood1431 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@EngineeredAngler but doesn't that change the result you get for the volume of the lure? Though, I believe it would not be critical for a big lure.

    @6:40 I'm a little confused on this part, how does this factor into the calculation you did after? For clarity not sure how you got the density out of the volume you calculated it just skips to you got .7g cm3 for the density, for example I 3D print my blanks (hollowed out for floatation) so if I have a 2x2x2 cm cube, my density isn't 8cm3, that's my volume? Is there a step missing here to get the density?
    Edit: I see now that I need to get the density elsewhere, which for my pla is 1.24 g cm3. Still not clear how this works for a hollowed out part such as PLA which is denser than water.

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You take the calculates volume and devide it by the weight of the wood block.
