I'm genuinely so stunned at the amount of references packed into this. Every time there's a niche reference that resonates with me, I find myself hoping John recognizes them too, but then, that's the point of a niche reference, isn't it? Most people aren't going to get it. I can't expect John to have played some Japanese mascot-rhythm game that never even came out in America, or an ancient PSX puzzle game that honestly wasn't even that good. But I admit, I do like seeing every time John does get a reference. The difference between a boring bot and an "ooh, I know that one!" moment. (And I, too, would like a new Castlevania)
At around 1:20:40 with the robot on the spinning wheel, I thought you were joking about not seeing him just to torture him a bit to be honest lol. This has been so delightful to watch and I've been pleasantly surprised they even had as much horror representation as they did.

Honestly, John, you would/will LOVE inFamous (the first one is the good one, pristine, sharp, narrative on-point), I am not exaggerating when I state, it was Spider Man 2 before we (just in recent times) got Spider Man 2. InFamous 1, due to the tech of the era, doesn't have the overload/loaded of characters and side mission variety, like RDR2 or GTA5, but in the dark themed open world you scale buildings in very similar to recent high quality Spider Man games. InFamous is one of those "break through gameplay styles and quality of presentation" games, one of those watershed good games. It was to it's era what Red Dead and GTA5 have been this generation of games. It has some nice "choices have weight" that so few games have, not drastic story affecting, but your powers and skills tree is altered sizably by how "Good" or "Bad" your character cumulatively acts. Very good quality story and style too. A bit Bloodborne dark, but in a Superhero-y Arkham style open world city.
Ah. Gasp. John used the same term I was saying, Primer. Nobody uses that term. So glad John's got the wider vocab. Makes the gameplay video that extra fun to watch. And the Journey of the Prairie King mention.........love anyone who remembers to work in some Stardew references, even when doing other genre games (Stardew is good for all occasions. :) )
1:26:45 Fragile Knight and underwear references Maximo games which were supposed to be 3D versions of Ghosts and Ghouls (referenced in the level name: ghosts and bots). He would lose his armour in one hit and be left in his underwear. 1:28:35 Eternal knight is Sir Daniel Fortesque from Medievil. He's a skeleton with one eye - which you can see the bot has one lit and one missing.
Someone telling you that you didn't "get" SH but vibed with SH2 bc you're a man is the Wildest take lol The pyramid head bot was so unexpected but I'm a lil obsessed.
Have you ever thought about taking a peek into inscryption casey's mod? :) It's a mini expansion that turns Leshy's Cabin portion into an endless, and increasingly challenging, roguelike. Could be fun to see you play through it, I always enjoyed your walkthrough of the base the game.
1:55:20 I'm not gonna say the infamous games are particularly amazing, but I did personally love them. They're by the same studio that did Ghost of Tsushima and Sly Cooper if that means anything to you. Infamous 2 and Second Son really carry the series though, the first one is pretty dated and not just graphically. The ost for all of them is great though, very atmospheric and low-key most of the time. Plight from infamous 2 is one of my favorite tracks in gaming tbh c: it also got a mini comic series to connect infamous 1 and 2
All the thematic levels are based on original IPs from PlayStation Studios. That's why there is not a Spider-Man level (Marvel). Also, the rumor is that Square Enix did not allow Final Fantasy cameos for free.

Impossible to talk about without spoilers but I guarantee that you are misinterpreting it. Everyone I've talked to who doesn't like the Lost ending has misinterpreted it. For what it's worth though, I didn't like it until the second watch
