The robot dogs are the Sony Aibo! The first and the latest models. They're not really toys (at least not children's toys 😅), they have fairly sophisticated robotics compared to your typical robot toys, their personality program develops based on your interactions with it and they cost a pretty penny. The old ones will cost you a couple to few hundred depending on condition. The current model is almost $3000 new on Sony's website (the price is inflated by it having a stupid cloud service plan). They were originally designed as a companion robot for people who couldn't have actual pets and they're pretty neat (at least the older models). In Japan it is/was actually fairly common to hold funerals for them when they broke and couldn't be repaired. There are still plenty that are functional at over 20 years old! I myself have an ERS-210 model I bought from a local collector a couple years ago, he's a funky little guy.
I`ll never understand why people get mad about gameplay of choice based games like Detroit, isn`t thats what`s all about? people making different choices from each other.
The Link-looking bot is the main character from Alundra, a PSX Zelda-like where you play as a young man who can enter people's dreams in a land plagued by nightmares. It's a very cool game!
I mean....damn........like you mention John. Such high quality on these Feature levels (the Horizon Zero Dawn bow gameplay level, and Ape Escape, and other ones).....the devs had to flex SO man different muscles, for all the gameplay styles and combat mechanics, and still make it integrated with Astro Bot's own functions and style. It's almost seemingly impossible that they made all this different levels, with such clean controls, gameplay mechanics choices to leave in or leave out (the bullet time while aiming bow....for example, top smart choice/decision), and the music (that I think goes unnoticed while the gameplay in those themed levels feathers and takes attention)....is so clean, and on topic for the source game franchise....and most impressively....fits the environment and visuals of he levels, like he jungly-Horizon-Zero-Dawn-y music for that level. This game is like a half dozen DIFFERENT soundtracks.....all very very good, and well done (and doesn't steal from the gameplay or off balance ever anything).
A very minor moment to start with I know, but in the middle of everything going down right now, keeping up on things that make you feel tired and sad, and companies throwing rainbow folk under the bus, just hearing John saying Elliott Page's name was such a nice balm on the soul... John being such a, idk how to put it, but like his idgaf attitude at the transphobic fans and his casual confidence with his cosplays, and him being such a chill, good, respectful, normal dude made me get such a good jolt of appreciation on top of feeling relaxed and enjoying the video. So, thank you, John
I got this game because of watching you ❤ it looked so fun i wasnt sure if i would like it or not but when i saw you play this i was like im sold but im not a pro like you are. Hey I'm not great at platformers but it's actually fine! I still haven't finished some of the smaller challenge levels but the main and bonus levels are fine difficulty wise, I loved it.
Hey the emotes are already unlocked, they just change Astro Bot's eyes. Now that you've properly unlocked photo mode though if you pose at the wee photo cut outs they give you coins! I am so enjoying your play through, I had given up on some of the challenge stages but you motivated me to go back and pick up some more bots!

Heavy Rain is actually good John! Ahead of its time to be honest. So many fcked up things and disturbing, some eerie thriller sequences too. Twists here and there. If you never played it then I disremembered then that I saw you play it. Not sure if you ever gonna play it, but if you do, it's best for you not to have spoilers. I wish I could play it again like how I felt when I first played it

i was pointing at the screen like a lunatic when the guy from rogue galaxy appeared, i was not expecting to see a reference for it, i played it some of it a long time ago and it was a lot of fun
So not so fun fact: Team Asobi did ask Square Enix if they can use their IPs in the game. Unfortunately, they refused giving their Final Fantasy characters but there is ONE Square Enix IP in here.
How does this game have such a consistently amazing soundtrack? Also I love that robot Aloy shoots real birds, when in the games she's a real person shooting robot animals

I haven't played as many RPGs lately for that exact reason. I recently took P5Royale and P3Reload off of my Steam wishlist because frankly, I just do not have 90+ hours to spare to replay through a game, nostalgia be damned. Edit: !!! I didn't know there was a Connor bot! I'm so sad idiot comments soured your experience with that game. It's such a stupid little game and David Cage is a hack, but I really love the characters. Bryan Dechart (Connor) is a sweetheart, too!
Ahhhhhhh, I just put my finger on it! I was trying, in the back of my mind, to think of what the Nintendo analogue (for quality fun, 3-D platformer) might be to compare wtih this Astro Bot iteration. Kirby and the Forgotten Land. For anyone who wants "more of Astro Bot", and/or doesn't have access to a (badly pricy) Playstation 5, I can promise you that the Nintendo Switch game Kirby and the Forgotten Land will scratch the same itch, and with equal parity of gameplay tightness, level quality and depth, bit-sized gameplay, and even has all the Nintendo Franchise references like Astro Bot does for Sony (you get to become Link kirby in the very first level). I totally forgot about it. That game is almost exactly Astro Bot, in gen concepts and quality and platforming fluidity and fun-quotient. Recommend as a great follow up to Astro Bot (or in place of it, for anyone not having a PS5). Gab Smolders did a DYNAMITE low-key-but-enthusiastic oy-filled playthrough of it, not unlike your playthrough here John.
The big bunny robot is from Jumping Flash. Such a weird game, but a lot of fun and I vaguely recall it had a really good soundtrack. Think it was one of the first 3d platformers ever too.
Heh heh, love those fozen level's little Pitfall style alligator heads (and while one is gauging their rhythm the sniper across the way is designed to pop ya. great level design, heh clever)

It saddens me that Sony made two unique superhero IPs like InFamous and Gravity Rush but won't do anything to make them relevant again. But at least Team Asobi still remembers them, especially when this studio was assembled with devs from Japan Studio (RIP), the ones behind Gravity Rush.

My PS4 has the theme background for Horizon: Zero Daen, so I hear the song all the time, lol.
The ice level was weird imo. I liked the planet itself, but the bot choice was weird? They put a Death Stranding character in it instead of Heavy Rain. It would've made more sense, too. Beyond Two Souls, Heavy Rain and Detroit Become Human. Sackboy not getting his own planet is blasphemous. I'm not much of a Horizon Zero Dawn fan tbh. So the God Of War planet is my favourite in general. The bird galaxy was the weakest imo even though the pirate planet was the best of it.

The Tribal guys are from Patapon, a rhythm game. I remember it being kinda hard, but I loved the gameplay and it was really cute
