  • I spent a day with a saint in Benidorm Spain!
    #homeless #spain #benidorm #british #expat
Join me as I spend the day with Jonny, a British expat living in Benidorm Spain. He is a professional musician, ex addict and formerly homeless. Jonny now dedicates his days to helping others in the community he lives. He delivers meals, supplies, support, advice and much more to the homeless population of Benidorm on behalf of local charity Project 4 All. I think many will be surprised at the stories of many of the homeless people in this video. Benidorm is synonymous with being a large and bustling tourist hotspot that attracts plenty of Brits and other Europeans. It also attracts many expat nationals, particularly British, to permanently locate. For some of these expats, their dream of a new life in the Mediterranean sunshine can turn into a nightmare. Some lose everything and end of sleeping rough on the streets. I join Jonny on his mission to help these individuals and he helps me understand their unique situations with empathy.

I personally work with people who have been unlucky enough to end up homeless back in the UK. I've been doing that kind of work for almost 20 years straight, so as a consequence, have seen the UK's descent into mass homelessness over the last couple of decades. The truth is, there's not many people like Johnny and we definitely need more of them. However the sad thing is, people who are selflessly giving of themselves pretty much never get the recognition they deserve, because Society is geared up towards looking down upon people who are seen to be "loosers" who are responsible for their situation in life. Tell you what, once you've heard people's stories, the reasons why they've ended up on the streets, you quickly learn that life can deal you unexpected blows that completely derail the path you had envisioned for yourself. Never, ever judge anyone you see on the streets, because the truth is, it can easily be you! Especially in the times we're currently living in, where we have a "Government" that a able to spend billions of our taxes on war we never agreed to, but can't find the money for essential public services. Times aren't set to get any easier, and I hope I'm wrong, but things are likely to become more difficult than we could ever imagine over the next decade.

I live in East Kilbride, my son gave me a couple of hundred pound.. i asked if i could spend it on buying backpacks & filling with things for the homeless.. he said yes of course & gave me more money, but i gave him the extra back and said I'm a smart shopper. Well, me & my mate went and filled the back packs with essentials bit also things like a writing pad & pen, groundsheet, socks, hat, gloves, snacks, baby wipes all kinds of stuff. We handed them out in Glasgow. We had a couple of pound coins left so gave it out in a shared way couple of quid each. 1 man had a dog so my mate ran back to the car & got all thr tins of dog food we bought which was about 6 only cheap stuff but the man was happy we had some for his dog. We had run out of change by now and i couldn't leave him with no money with him having the dog, i got him a tenner out the cashpont. He was so happy. I can't go by people on the streets, we always go to Prestwick and there's usually a foreign old guy there, i don't have any money now but usually can give a pound or two, he knows us now and nods his head, sometimes i dont have a quid on me but everytime im there i go in the big charity shop they sell clothing for a pound. So, i buy my clothes off that rail and get some change so i can give it to him. People buy him greggs as he usually sits outside there.
Now, there are teams feeding the homeless in glasgow, also like a food bank system. It's not just the homeless queuing up! Lots of young families& working people.
It's shocking to see at first, but i have found the community has pulled together, there's a site on Facebook, that gives away free household items anyone can post, i think its called shop for nothing. Anyway theres a few others similar. People are helping each other It's beautiful when you see it.

One of the guys I wrote about on my page, worked in construction, paid in black money, (not his choice) shattered his ankle and got nothing. He is now in a wheelchair, living in a tent provided by this charity. In fact, many of the guys we support don't drink (some the occasional one, but to be honest, if this was my reality, Is be on whatever I could get) Many are very articulate, like the guys in this video and try to take care of themselves and are not off their heads! Income inequality
Income inequality is defined as the difference in how income is distributed among individuals and/or populations. It is also described as the gap between rich and poor, wealth disparity, wealth and income differences, or the wealth gap
This is clearly the problem in the world and also the fact that the police and authorities are actually allowing drugs to flow into countries and the streets, not doing enough to stop it, also not doing enough to prevent human trafficking, and other major crimes against humanity.

I salute you sir! I've been homeless and an addict myself and It's good to see there are people like you who don't judge and understands addiction. That comment about people justifying not giving money as it's going to be used for drugs, are just using that as a reason to just not help. Even if it got used for drugs, you've saved them from committing crime or begging relentlessly for a day and would have absolutely made their day.

Addiction is the cause of homelessness and I am not talking about those on the streets. Those addicted to money are the root cause; those who exploit other people's desperate circumstances to feed their own habit; those who promote the idea that homelessness is somehow a choice. The greedy need rehabilitation just as much as drug addicts do, (in fact, more so). The problems of an underclass are, of course, extremely useful to many.

😢I gave a homeless man opposite my house, a coffee and a sandwich one freezing rainy morning, and he wept saying thank you for being kind to me
I observed that he was sleeping on cardboard, so I went home to get him blankets, cosmetics, a warm jacket, and food
This tiny act of kindness motivated this man (who was homeless due to a very serious accident at work and the boss subsequently shutting down the company and running away without paying him) to find a room to rent. He's still unemployed at present, so I pay the rent on his room for now. This man has changed from broken and beaten to hopeful. In four months his body language has changed dramatically because he has renewed hope and someone who cares. Just the other day, he came by to pick up his rent, and as he is still unemployed I gave him some food. Again, this man just cried, saying, I wish I had the words to tell you how you have changed my life
Johnny and Wendall you guys are the change catalysts we need in the world. ❤❤❤❤

It's fascinating how normal these places are when you move off the tourist strip. I love helping the homeless it gives me so much satisfaction. I tried to help a lady sleeping in her car near my home last week. Gathered supplies for her, but when I went to deliver them the next day her car had been smashed up by nasty neighbors. My area isn't rough, and has very low crime rate, but the people that live here don't have a caring bone in their body. I was chatting to my neighbor about this lady last week and she was venomous. I had to stop her and inform her I have worked with the homeless and I don't agree with her. She seemed shocked that I was kind and caring, most people look at me and think I'm a thug.

I lost respect didn't say anything and walked off, and never returned. Not Danny's fault but that other guy taking advantage.
