He seems like a really good kid, and I'm not saying you're wrong but he seems to need a bit of a mentor/teacher. As someone who has done quite a few odd jobs watching him paint that ladies fence was excruciating. He was getting paint everywhere, nothing was uniform, it looked like shit. I feel like people are willing to pay for a good job, he could've got 60-70 for that fence if he did everything correctly. The attitude is right, but you have to stand by your work too.

Alfie, I watched this video when it was posted a year ago or so, and was inspired by your resorsefullness and resilience, by your kindness and humor. The bin train will be forever engraved on my mind 😀 Anyhow, I am a 53yr old lady with ADHD, I don't drive and have always struggled with jobs. I have been retraining as a gardener recently and now I am proudly a "commuting" gardener who pushes her trolley of gardening tools and travels to jobs on the local buses. I invented various hacks for my tools to make them as light, small and portable as possible etc. I now have various clients who are a joy to work for and I love gardening like no other job I had before! What I would love to add to your message in your film is that I really believe that one should do what one loves but it also needs to meet the needs of the people out there (market) and when you add your personal touch to it, which is your character and personality, preferably a positive one, then you really will succeed in this world. Not necessarily in the eyes of everyone, but most importantly, in your own eyes. You should end up being satisfied and rewarded.
“You can look at life two ways, you can be frightened of it, or just live it.” Actually one of the most meaningful things I’ve heard someone say. This lad is a lot brighter than he gives himself credit for.
He was exactly right when he said you can keep worrying about something that never actually happens. So many people spend so much time worrying about the worst-case scenario that they get used to being paralysed by a fear of 'what if' but if they saw a graph of how many times 'if' happened they'd soon realize there's nowt to be worried about!
Why hasn't Alfie's local authority rewarded hm for what he does in the town? This documentary is a terrific advert for Clitheroe and its people. Alfie is a fabulous member of his local community and a shining example to other youngsters.
This guy is a living definition of having honour and integrity instead of arrogance and ego, well done Alfie and you have loads of fans from the muslim community ❤️
His parents did a fine job raising this boy. They should be proud . What a inspiration to watch . I thought boys like this were a thing of the past . I love his spirit . Whilst he is poor in money. He is rich in spirit. And that's priceless . ❤ you go alfie !!!!
Protect Alfie at all costs. Glad to see people get behind him. Definitely shades of Fred Dibnah. I love his humility and the way he connects with people. Breaking fast with Abdul and painting Edna's fence were really touching moments. Nice one Alfie lad. RIP Edna
As a retired secondary school teacher I can already picture what a rascal Alfie probably was in school but…regardless of his academic ability he is polite, nicely spoken, caring, kind hearted, well meaning, sensible and a whole host of other commendable qualities. He’s making the absolute best of his life and trying to make others lives better too. If he can make an honest living like this he should be commended not punished. Better this than becoming a loud and foul mouthed yob, causing damage, threatening people, robbing, drinking, taking drugs or worse being an alcoholic and selling drugs. I don’t know this lad but I’m proud of him. Go Alfie!!!
I'm doing what he's doing but a bit different. I live day by day finding odd jobs. Leaflet dropping etc. I've been backpacking around Europe for 4 years, left UK with £1000 and went to Norway. That ran out in a couple of months 😅 so 2 or 3 months in I was broke. Found a job in Germany for 6 months and met another guy who wanted help on his house in Elba Italy and we flew over in his private plane. Worked there for a few months in early 2020 and drive the work van back to Germany and started backpacking again. I saved enough for interrail pass for 3 months a drone and money for 6 months. Spent a lot in Netherlands mind as only Germany and Netherlands was open first 6 weeks then done 12 countries from may to October 2020. It was amazing, now been in southern spain on the Mediterranean sea funding odd jobs and surviving. This is a great way to make a living. He's eco friendly too like me as I don't have a car I walk mostly. This is like the old days this kid is a legend. 😊💪 As long as he's not claiming benefits it should be fine. He pays tax on things he buys.
take yourself for a walk, cleanshirt. it's none of your business whether people drink or take drugs or even sell drugs. why even mentioning them in the same sentence as threatening and robbing people? was the secondary school for disabled people? you special mate? fuckin yob hahahahahaha
He’s such an incredible inspiration, I’ll be working more on myself to become a better human and a friendlier person. Alfie has changed the way I see things❤️
Alfie i have been in the dumps of late, lost 2 mates lately so i want to personally say thank you for cheering me up. I am a carer for the elderly and it makes me happy, i am on my 22nd year of care work out of my 45 and the little old lady you helped with the fence reminded me of the britan i once knew, Alfie is like a slice of the past. Good on you lad.😊
He is, in his way, a great healer. I feel such a love for him. Someone ought to front him a portable generator/power washer. And a bit of business tuition. Such a work ethic should be encouraged. We happily throw money at rehabilitation of miscreants, we must assist the Alfies of this world too. I’m also deeply heartened by your story. I was a nurse. It is a most special person who loves caring for the elderly. Bless your dear heart. I’m so sorry for your loss. One is hard enough to cope with, two must be devastating. I hope your doldrums pass quickly. You are also a true gem.
This should be a series. Travel the country doing weird and random odd jobs for people. People pay for the personality. What a legend. Got at least one fan in Australia Alfie boy ❤
Be careful what you wish for. When media pick up people like Alfie, who is clearly vulnerable, it can end up destroying them. Hope his family are protecting him enough
And Abs treated him like a total prick. The kid starved all day, spoke highly of the Asian bloke and dude wouldn't even bring Alfie round the family for iftaar. Because Alfie is totally oblivious, a bit of a moron and dressed like a tramp.
Alfie is a throw back to a time when people were self -starters and entrepreneurs, This guy has a lot going on and I see his future as a successful man. The community needs to acknowledge him and note his community oriented mindset.
The local authority shouldnt stop him from doing work they should bloody pay the lad for what he does!! He is an absolute star!! His community are so lucky to have him!
This is f***ing brilliant. I never knew that such an awesome fly on the wall doc could be made these days. There's no constant stupid, inane muzak but proper songs at appropriate points like by George Formby and Hank Williams. Well done to those involved in making this film not least to the subject. It's hard to believe he's so wise and witty and still a teenager. An amazing lad basically.
That’s one of the best documentaries I’ve seen; British Realism at its finest. I like that the film maker doesn’t try to dominate too much, although there are narratives imposed (like Alfie always doing the jobs wrong or encountering problems) but it really brought me in to his world. I really hope Alfie keeps on trucking, and doesn’t work his body too much into the ground. He’s really smart, and takes responsibility for himself which is far more than our shit politicians do. In some ways Alfie is freer than most people. But you still need bread on the table to keep going. It seems like the people in the area are quite supportive though.
Alfie is such a likeable person in that he is willing and makes work a priority, a very good example to youths who does not want to work, he leaves a very good impression from the upbringing of his parents.
@@dianematthew8202 He does. Although he also shows how the entrepeneurial propaganda that was pumped out by our gov for the past 3 decades doesn't always pay off for those that didn't get the best circumstances. Where is the support?
@@lotuseater7247 Your right JH he puts our politicians to shame and zero support for our own.I work in Clitheroe and am gonna meet Alfie and try and set something up for him. What a great kid.
If Alfie's ADHD is I suspect, then it means he struggles to keep focused on a task so he flits between things. This makes it difficult for an employer when you need someone reliable. You can see this with how many different things he's tried. And the medication to help with this changes your personality as it's basically speed. Alfie though seems to have found his vocation in community assistance. Hopefully he can focus that and make it a life long living / success around it. If you can harness the wild energy ADHD can be something very impressive.
so not only does he provide a cheap service, he cheers people up whilst giving people a human contact like a good neighbour and friend, this is what every neighbourhood needs. good on you for trying to make a living from such a basic need, we need more like you

I've been watching Michael Palin travel docs. I rate Alfie up there with him. I hope we're going to see more of Alfie. He now has his own channel, 'Alfieoddjob'. That's exactly what I thought buddy, and for free I have left a pretty long comment to say how councils would do it basically for the council to do the same job it would cost hundreds if not thousands to do the job bung Alfie a fiver and he will do it in 5 minutes, bureaucracy at its best mate councils waste so much money on making sure they don't get sued now it ridiculous, just take a pot hole years ago you would literally have 2 guys in a flatbed transit with a tar pot on the back and some asphalt or whatever to fill them In and just be basically out on patrol when they find one they just fix it job done! Now they wait for it to be reported then send an assessor out to determine the risk factor of said pot hole and the importance of fixing it they paint it a certain colour and fuck off, 3 months later and tonnes of paperwork and many more pot holes including the original one are now worse but now the team come out with traffic management and "fix" the pot hole with that new shit Pot Ash crap that has to be compacted down by the cars themselves 😂 then 6 weeks later its all gone and the pot hole remains plus all the office staff to manage this mess all get payed when years ago it was 2 guys in a van that fixed everything they see that needs fixing daily without being told where and what to do they just used their common sense and fixed it there and then saving a fortune, unfortunately this is the way it all works now and the councils are going bankrupt all over and they wonder why, if it ain't broke don't fix it comes to mind well it is broken and they don't know how to fix it without spending even more wasted public money!
If you want to come to the US you can stay at my house and we have enough work for you for 20 years. God Bless you. You give us a glimmer of hope in a screwed up world.

I got around 8 minutes in and already worried this docu would end too soon. What a breath of fresh air and joy this was. A cross between Carl Pilkington, a dash of Peter Kay, a lot of funny one liners. I knew I was in for a treat when 'roses are red...' was blurted out over a tannoy with the reaction of "shit" and grey haired old lady popped up from nowhere looking startled. I laughed so much through this 'fly on the wall docu'. Alfie, if you read this, you're an absolute gem. 100% this. If people with this level of ADHD are to part of society without being medicated on some strong drugs that change there personality then we need to rethink how the state interacts with them and makes them productive. It's difficult but we should make the effort.

Go Alfie!!!
100% agree

Seems he is the "independent" worker by preference.
He just saying in the video, he can't keep up with bosses so he's self employed
If Alfie's ADHD is I suspect, then it means he struggles to keep focused on a task so he flits between things.
This makes it difficult for an employer when you need someone reliable.
You can see this with how many different things he's tried.
And the medication to help with this changes your personality as it's basically speed.
Alfie though seems to have found his vocation in community assistance.
Hopefully he can focus that and make it a life long living / success around it.
If you can harness the wild energy ADHD can be something very impressive.

As a Muslim, i really respect you for fasting, honestly. I enjoyed the doc. Keep up the excellent work, Alfie. I hope you achieve lots of success. Could be the next Charlie Mullins of Clitheroe for Odd Jobs.
Who cares about your supernatural delusions? It's 2023 now, grow up
Alhamdo lillah.
Subhan Allah.
Masha Allah.
Alfie deserves more than he does going out doing a service for the community around him.
How long the best for fasting.

Well made documentary. Was this channel made to help Alfie financially? If so, great effort!
There are very few young people like Alfie these days. And his kindness and empathy is amazing! Well done Alfie's parents! I pray you will be super successful and continue to be generous and kind, Alfie. The higher you go, the more you give back and I promise you, your blessings will continue pouring in in abundance. All the best & take care!
