  • In this video I'll show you how to parge your insulated concrete foundation (ICF). Follow this two step process for a beautiful looking wall that will be durable and look like concrete.

    I wasn't aware of what parging was so thanks. I have to figure out what to put on the outside of the ICF extension that is planning to be built Spring 2023 on Prince Edward Island, Atlantic Canada. I am enjoying your video's and have watched a few several times so I understand as much as what you are teaching about ICF extensions, to a poured concrete basement and then stick build. Cheers and thank you so much!

    After watching your video we went to work! Our first coat and mesh went on well.
    After 24 hours of dry time we started to apply the second coat, it dryed immediately upon applying it and was not workable . We waited another 24 hours, same . Any recommendations would be much appreciated .

    Could a whole ICF exterior be parged and last? I’m just wondering if that might be the least expensive siding option and not have to have expansion joints- and be forest fire resistant.

    So you Would you still do the scratch coat if plastering icf but then attach wire with fasteners to ICF. But no synthetic mesh needed really? I have an addition with ICF I need to match to main house which is also not finished. It’s 1/2 treated plywood on the base of original house because I had done new foundation walls all around a year ago. Nothing finished yet needs stucco.

    • @bondobuilt386
      @bondobuilt386  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would attach diamond wire lath with screws and stainless washers to the ICF studs then do a scratch coat. Notch the scratch coat with a notched tile trowel. Let that dry a day and plaster it.

    Thank you for the great video. I had a quick question (if thats ok). I have an ICF wall foundation to parge and the way the house is built, the bottom of the foam board insulation overhangs the foundation and siding is attached to that. Should the bottom of the foam board be sealed with parging as well?

    Enjoyed your informative video on parging. I applied 1/2" treated plywood to my exterior ICF. I want to parge on the wood. Should I do a scratch coat and press the mesh into it or staple the mesh to the plywood ? I have the nudura product and fibreglass mesh.

I was wondering if the parging stuck good to your plywood , because when I did my cement board it only lasted about 6 months and then started cracking and parts actually separating , the reason I went with putting the cement board on the ICF was probably the same reason you put plywood ,, for better protection from being hit with eg. kids bicycles ,, lawn tractor , you know what I mean lol.

      @@mrmikestandard Hi Mr. Mike: The 1/2 inch treated plywood was partially applied by the framing builder mostly in hard to access walls or walls that were backfilled - I finished the plywood for that reason and parged for a finished look and prevent the plywood from drying out on the south side from sun exposure. No cracking for me except at one corner where I had issues with the plywood getting fastened tight. It has worked out great mind you I didn't skimpy on coats nudura and made sure I had enough for pressing the fiberglass mesh into it. No problem with damaging with toys😉 as our residence is located in cottage country and grass is not important - lots of rocks 😂

      @@bondobuilt386 Yeah I've been investigating this and have watched every video I can find. Nudura has a product with foam on one side and wood that can be unscrewed on the other side. I wanted to try to pour the floor and walls in one connected pour. Pour the floor first then the walls. I was going to cut 4" off the bottom of the inside form to run steal from slab into the wall, and allow everything to connect seamlessly. Like your monolithic pours but also add the slab in 5he same pour. This would be kind of like a DIY gunite pool but poured instead. Your thoughts would appreciated.
