She's Malaysian and her first language is Chinese, so you could probably hear her Chinese accent in her Burmese speech. But still, for someone who doesn't speak Burmese to learn and memorize this speech is quite impressive, I thought.
That is a good question indeed. The film was released in 2011, so shooting probably started a good 4-5 years before. Burma's transition period didn't begin until around 2011. So it could be because the filmmakers couldn't shoot in the country itself or have a Burmese actress without endangering her. They probably also wanted a big-name actress instead of an internationally unknown Burmese actress.

I have been visiting Burma every year for meditation until the pandemic so fortunately do online meditation but bama za gar na ma lei ba bu 😢..so sometime I wondered if you could do a lesson on burmese for meditation etc….I know Sayadaw pyah and Sayalay pyah but not too much more. Anyhow I have plenty to learn in the meantime. Your TH-cam lessons and the book are great
Thanks for the support! Meditation terms are actually old Burmese, or Pali words and phrases so not commonly used today. They will be hard to understand even for native Burmese speakers. But I have thought about doing a short lesson on the proper way to speak to Burmese monks.

Thanks for watching Kazunori-San! As a movie, I actually like "The Burmese Harp." But I just wish the Burmese speaking in it were better. In the scene in Rambo, everyone was shouting because it was an intense scene, so it would be difficult to understand for language learners.

If Michelle Yeoh got a B+ I shudder to think what I would get in Saya Kenneth's class. But the analysis of the ka-gyi+ya-pin shows how what might be indistinguishable to non-native speakers sounds completely wrong to the native speaker. Thank you Kenneth, great session.

Yes, I think that made sense. Michelle's mother tongue is Malay Chinese, so she would have a kind of accent similar to Shan.

I am a bit more bothered by the fact that they use English as the major communicating language in the film.Kinda takes away the immersion out of it.
