    Here it is, the new project Mini. Found on E-bay but I lost the auction only to later find the higher bidder messed the seller around so it was offered to the next highest bidder...... Me. The Mini is a 1997 Rover Cooper MPI and has been off the road in a garage since 2007! It's what some might call a barn find.
    In this update I finally get stuck in and start addressing the rust and corrosion. I remove the floor pan soundproofing and straighten the dented floor before cutting off the outer sill and corroded sections of the inner sill in preparation for replacement.

    Wow, if only some of the other Projects were as good as Sprout in comparison with the cills. Great video as usual!😎

    Looking good Corn Beef. Good to see original sills rather than botched sills

    Hi Keith,great start to the project and viewing the work so far you make it look so easy and always have a good action of plan.Cant wait to see what the other side is like.

    Very much enjoyed that video Keith, it reminds me a lot of my sidewalk that was similar with inner sills repairs and some sills etc. Looking forward to seeing more 👍

    Great to see another video. Been watching them all day lol. We have just got a 1981 mini project for out selves. 1 good thing is a lot has been done already like all the welding. We know it has been done right has we got the car off the wife's father which i have been helping with the work. Again great work.

    This was good to see - I'm about to start replacing mine and I thought it wasn't salvageable, but it looks better than yours did so it should be fine! :)

    Great work! I think... and thats just me, that you you make you make the right decision when you keep as much original panels as possible. The patches in the innersills will not be seen and covered. Keep up the good work. Best regards from Mikael, in the north of Sweden 👌

      Thank you. Yes the welding will be very neat anyway and not really visible

    Keith, Looking at the outer sill you would think the inner would be far worse than it was, It seems like each bad
    rust of area was in between the flutes where the condensation will sit. Cheers Dave

    • @classicminiworkshop
      @classicminiworkshop  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it was just the bits between the flutes. The sill came off so easy! I've just looked at the other side and I don't think it's as bad

    Great video. I do like your rust detection tool, is this available on your TH-cam shop?

    Nice work. What's your thoughts on using gasless coreflux wire ? Personally getting tired of getting through gas bottles ...

    • @classicminiworkshop
      @classicminiworkshop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Never tried it but I’ve yet to see a nice weld when using one. Possibly a bit better if welding outside in the wind? The wire is also more expensive and if you get the bigger bottles of gas it’s not so much cheaper

    What is the liquid blue that you put after removed the rust ?

    • @classicminiworkshop
      @classicminiworkshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a product called Kurust which neutralizes rust

    Why not replacing the whole outer sill?
    This is so fiddly and leaves lots of ongoing rusting surfaces!

    • @classicminiworkshop
      @classicminiworkshop  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did replace the whole outer sill on both sides? Did you mean the inner sill?

    I hate rust. You think you've got a small hole then it gets bigger the more you poke at it.
