- Can tone-deafness truly be cured? In today's episode of Sew's character development arc, she goes for singing lessons and tries to sing her favorite Billie Eilish song. Would she be able to sing the chorus in perfect tune after a one-hour crash course?

Sew is definitely not tone-deaf, she just doesn’t know how to control her voice, which is common for people who have never sung in their life.
She needs to do scales and learn what the notes are supposed to sound like…having a base of basic musicology 101 will help immensely.

Exactly.....just because one can't sing doesn't mean one is tone deaf
actually teaching someone who cant sing how to sing is really difficult. it's like teaching maths tuition to someone who just cannot understand the formula lols. she and the teacher did a good job for 1 hour but singing skill will take extra effort for her to master as she really must pay attention when she sing in order to sound good.

As a music teacher, I have to say I'm impressed. That was clearly an improvement and I don't think she's tone-deaf, but just lacks in areas such as placement of sound and pitch, which are adjustable as seen in the video.
yep and if im not wrong her breathing is wrong, instead of breathing with our lungs, we need to breathe with our diaphragm! ( Think of our stomach as a balloon, it should inflate as we inhale.) but overall, a big improvement in her pitch!
Omfg her “eyes” at the “can’t stop staring at those ocean eyes” is sooo good. It’s considered a pretty low note for girls to hit and she seems to do it with ease?? She’ll fit so well as an alto

i think there's a misconception about the term "tone deaf". someone who is tone deaf is what the coach mentioned ; to be unable to perceive sound / pitch as the same way as others to the extent it can be considered a hearing impairment.
sew managed to recognize the pitch of the notes in the first few minutes of the lesson, albeit not reproducing it with 100% accuracy.
she definitely can improve by leaps and bounds if given proper training as seen in the video!
The level of confidence and delusion with which moves Sew through life, is what I aspire to have.
Sew should DEFINITELY continue the vocal lesson!!!!
That's definitely a significant difference especially when looking at the mini progress reports. Also, the teacher is very sweet and effective. Really helpful tricks!
but lowkey the way she sings the 'ocean eyes' lyric at the first section of the song is actually nice.

This was SO COOL! I literally SCREAMED laughing haha. She CLEARLY sounded better, it was very impressive how much better she sounded after such a small time.
Her timbre itself sounds good, so she's absolutely right that after a few years she would sound very good!

I believe everyone can sing, like what Hannah said. My guess is Sew never learnt a musical instrument so her pitch recognition is underdeveloped. There are some parts when she hit the right notes and her tone quality is perfectly fine, can sing at karaoke.

there's really a significant improvement from the lesson! sew is no longer talk-singing but can now hit harder notes and string different notes together a little more seamlessly. maybe you should go for more lessons just for fun! can't wait for a sew song cover.

Idk how to explain it... but it's really not that sew is tone deaf, she just doesn't know how to sing? It feels like all this while she just talks in different pitches and according to the melody, not sing. It's definitely possible for sew to sing well :-))
