Hi Mr Short,I was hoping you could tell me some more about the job you took over there. I’m currently in the interview process for jobs working with the MOE in the UAE. With GEMS were you aware of where you’d be and what school you’d work at before moving there? And also, was your accommodation provided? In my case we are not told where we will be and have an accommodation allowance but nothing is provided. Many thanks in advance.
Gethin Jones, with GEMS you apply for the school that you want yes, and you have accommodation sorted as part of the package. With MoE you often don't know where, most of the people I know working in MoE have a very good wage but many leave due to stress or annoyance as most say the children are simply unteachable; then there is the fuss of finding your own accomodation etc. I would look at private schools, rather than public in my personal opinion.
Thanks for your reply. It’s great to get some info on the MoE scheme as I’ve found very little online. I am a qualified French teacher too so I think I will start focusing on finding something in the private sector. If you know of any French teaching jobs in your school or any for that matter, I would really appreciate it if you could get in touch. Many thanks again.

How much is salary shoud be to have not bad life there ? My husband has some offer now to work in UAE , salary is 21 000 AED a month without housing allowance. They don't provide apartment. Is it good salary there ? Thank you in advance!!
Dana Snook It depends on the way you live. In Abu Dhabi or Dubai you can live comfortably with 21000aed.
Salaries are different depending on experience, qualifications, etc. You can live comfortably on a modest wage :)

Definitely worth it.
You'll save loads. Salary works out great owing to the fact that it's tax-free, etc.

What are their pet policies? Are they lax or does it depend on where you are located?
I don't think they allow pets in the hotel, but anywhere else should be fine... like in general apartment blocks maybe.
Hey who did you go through for your job? Also what type of contract was offered to you?
I got the job through GEMS Education, the contract is a standard teaching contract I guess - 2 year min. and accommodation.

Lots of teaching jobs are different. You need to be a qualified teacher with QTS ideally.

You are required to have a teachers qualification in most schools. QTS - Qualified Teaching Status.
Now in the UAE, beginning this year, teachers are required to be licensed too. I'll provide more information about this when I get around to doing it.

Depending on qualifications/school you can begin to teach. However, this year teachers will begin to need to acquire a license. This is part of a uniform licensing system being rolled out - to be fully implemented by 2021. Check out the link below for more information.

It is expected that teachers can read, write and speak English fluently too.

I'm not too sure. I've seen in the foyer its around 200 to 400 per night for the 1-bed apartments (which I'm in). Obviously it's reduced if you book for longer periods I think...
