Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star my favorite shoes of all time I've been wearing them most of my life and I never ever had any problems with them at all I started wearing them in high School back in the 90s when they was made in USA I still wear them to this day I love Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star
For converse there a two rules to follow in my opinion. 1. get the wide sole version, had to go through two pairs before i got some wide ones, foot role and side spilitting was completely eliminated with wide versions. 2. Wear them ALOT when you first get them, you need to sole to compress and stay compressed, after a while they virtually feel like there's 1mm beteeen you and the floor. But they need wearing in.
@@thatfitfriend yeah man. In one of my old pairs i actually ripped out the converse insoles and replace them with the insoles of some old notorious lifts. Felt like a barefoot shoe after
I tried squating with Converse once and it was a huge down grade from Vans for me. Too much space in the front, but far to narrow. Since my toes felt crushed it felt like lowered my force production badly. Now I've been using The Total the past few months and they're even better than the Vans for me. With the Vans my pinky toe was still a little jammed around the sides. The Total has the perfect amount of width for me.
The grip is also a lot better on the Total than both the Converse and Vans. I noticed this because when I do standing calf raises and seated with them the shoe doesn't slide around at all on any of my reps. With the other two shoes I always on to reset my feet in the middle of setsm
I think converse are better than running shoes with squishy soles when lifting. I used to lift in my running shoes with squishy soles then switched to converse. Converse felt stable Also converse is now available in a wide size. I have it in wide. Fits me better
I love my converse but they are to narrow thinking about getting the xero prio neo but I donno yet. When I squat I can really feel the side of the converse stopping my foot from spreading for a good grip. BUT the converse are my everyday shoe as well loooove them
@ I have low tops when I’m lifting and high tops for the rest of my life haha. But I’ve been looking at getting a shoe like the prio and vivo for a while
What would be recommended sizing for the the Totals and Barefoot shoes? I wear a 9 in chuck lows. Thinking of gojng with the Totals cuz my chucks crush my small toes so i need a wider toe box. But i also like the idea of Barefoot shoes but dont wanna drop $150+ unless it's worth it for real
Did you have to adjust your sizing in the Chucks? Totals can run a smidge long, so an 8.5 may be the move. If the 9s in Converse feel snug AF, then try a 9 and see. I'd order through Amazon for easier returns! Barefoot shoe wise, look into tolos arch 2, notorious lift radix, and lono. All offer decent prices!
Circa makes some skate shoes that work just as well as the actual weightlifting shoes from nike. The 201R has a lot going for it. You can actually wear it like a shoe instead of changing shoes 17 times. That nike ramolos would tear up your feet if you tried to walk 5 miles in them.
Eh, depends on your preferences, tbh! I don't use them and if anything I take them out here and there when training if I'm rocking my Cons. But if you want a more plush feel when walking then insoles can be nice.
The 201R I wear to the gym seem to grip the floor even better than the purpose made nike ramolos. A lot of times if I am going somewhere after or before the gym I just wear the 201R for that too.
Intrigued by the Total! Only just learnt about it now. Would it be good as a barefoot shoe training substitute for those just looking to get into barefoot shoes? Was going to buy the Xero 360 but finding them here in the UK is a headache and the Total's are much more accessible!
@@andalalvar7183 yeah, here it’s mostly a read the room type of situation! A lot of my homies and folks who check out my reviews also love wearing their shoes for daily wear and errands then gymming.
Converse are intentionally made with that bit of fuzz to skirt import taxes, and are technically classified as slippers and not shoes. A surprising amount of shoes do this.🤡
My personal trainer uses Chuck Taylor Converse shoes when he lifts, but I found them very soft n squishy. I turned to Vans old skool shoes. Nike has ruined Converse Chuck Taylor's as they are now too soft n squishy....
Fun fact, converse uses that fuzzy sole to save on import costs, and they’re classified as slippers formally for that reason when internationally shipped!
Adidas Total does everything converse does but better. Just got a pair and they are the perfect flat training shoe! And I used to love converse for deadlift, but the Total i can use for all the big 3 and all my lifting in general .
I rescue old pairs of converse that people don't want anymore so they don't go to waste. I can use them for better things. Let me know when you're done with these and others. I'm in a bad mood because of a headache and seeing the picture that introduced this video of you lifting up the shoe in your teeth made my day worse, so that's why I put this here.

I used my old high converse in boxing, ngl it has a good grip.
any recs on low top vs high top converse for lifting?
Both are solid, just depends if you like more ankle support/contact! Can't go wrong with either, imo. I'd decide based on your tastes
Nice video. Just as an FYI, Converse now does wide sizes - no clue how much wider exactly, but a good call by them.
