    I had the S5 a couple of years ago and the only reason I didn't keep it was the autofocus, specifically for video. I picked up the S5II a few weeks ago and truly love everything about it for my work needs. Insane value for what it can do.

    Just found your channel. I’m a Lumix photographer, no video, just still photography. It’s interesting to hear your take on Lumix. I’ve been a photographer for 50+ years now. I started with the M43 system in 2012 (I think) but with Olympus. I quickly migrated to Lumix M43 and recently moved to full frame. I shoot with an S5 and S1. I couldn’t be happier. I believe Lumix is the most underrated system there is. I’m always happy to find people who appreciate Lumix. Great videos, keep up the good work.

    I recently bought a Lumix camera (S5iix) and I am really impressed by how Panasonic handles feedback. Since I use a lot of manual lenses, one of my concerns when I first got it was the low magnification of the "punch in" for the manual focus assist, which was mentioned in some TH-cam reviews, and lo and behold, just a month ago or so they came out with a firmware update that increased the magnification.

    Wonderfully done! I couldn't agree more with your ending. My sons and I are still using GH4 and GH5 bodies for stills and video. It's always great to see what others are doing. I've used Lumix since 2015, and many other brands before then. I'm hooked. A G9 II is in my future as a retirement camera.

    Great video! Watched from start to finish.
    Question: You referred to switching back and forth between the G9ii and the S5ii thanks to them having similar bodies... when would you recommend bouncing back and forth like that? The reason I ask is, I'm heavily invested in micro 4/3 glass and have shot with my humble G85 for years... I now have a G9ii and I'm hoping to have better luck shooting indoor sports (basketball, volleyball). I'm hoping full-frame won't be necessary for this? Thanks for your candid and informative videos!

      Thank you Vara. Usually I reserve the MFT for wider angle or situations where a narrow dof is not what I want. Mostly. MFT excels at high speed and the g9 has epic autofocus. For what you are doing it’s perfect. If I’m doing real shallow focus portraits I go full frame but MFT can handle anything else. Hope that helps. You are just fine.

    Thanks for such an engaging video, Ben. I used to do video back in the twentieth century; I make stills now. Film on vintage Leica M gear, and digital on Lumix. Just an aside, you can do high-speed sync on Lumix with the Godox Xpro 2 trigger as well. It's labeled for OM Systems but they share the hot shoe pin configuration with Lumix because of Micro Four Thirds. I use it on both my Lumix G9 and GX9 with multiple speed lights and strobes and no issues. In the US they're also branded as Flashpoint.

    Totally agree about the LUMIX S lenses. I recently picked up a Leica SL, mostly for work so I got Sigma Art lenses for wide and portrait/macro stuff. Wanted an AF 50 to sit in the middle, but had already blown my budget. Picked up the LUMIX 1.8 lens figuring it would be a make do until I could afford something different.

    My first Digital Camera was a lumix compact superzoom followed by the G2 (which I gave to my daughter) then the GH4 and then I added a GH5. I sold the GH4 which half funded a G9 so I had the flagship stills and the flagship hybrid.
    Then I replaced the GH5 with the GH5s and I still have the G9 and they’re now my Video Cameras and they each have their own speed-booster and Atomos Ninja V. The G9 has IBIS so I use that in a cage whereas the GH5s does not so it’s on sticks or a Gimbal.
    For photography I now have a couple of Fujifilm cameras that I bought Used.

    I shoot manual focus primes (all Carl Zeiss apart from one native TTArtisan) adapted to the A7RIII.
    What I'd look for in my next camera body...
    1. EVF resolution;
    2. Focus peaking quality;
    3. Sensor stack thickness.
    The first two are for obvious reasons.
    Sensor stack thickness needs to be thin enough to prevent edge smearing with adapted wide anglebl

    I have an S1H and absolutely love it. I have one issue with it though, and since you seem to have Lumix’s ear, perhaps you can ask them to correct/change it?
    The top/rear dial (the shutter dial) is customizable in photo mode, but not video mode. This makes no sense. No one wants to adjust their shutter angle when shooting video - you generally set it for a project, and leave it there. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve unknowingly bumped the shutter dial during a scene, and find the shutter angle at 270 degrees rather than 180 degrees - it’s maddening. I’ve had to resort to putting a piece of gaffer’s tape over that dial so it doesn’t inadvertently get changed while shooting.
    Every button and dial on the camera is customizable in Photo Mode. Why would this one dial not be customizable only in Video Mode? And why would the one setting that it’s designated to, be the last setting a video shooter would want it to be?

    I love using it and love the picture quality and all the features.
    Looking forward to the S1R Mark II!
    I use the Nikon system for street photography. I won't sell it.

    There is still an issue with most newer Lumix cameras.
    Both the G9II and the GH6 have fantastic colors, good to very good IBIS, good rolling shutter, 4k 120fps, Open Gate, 6K etc ... But why the hell they changed the fine detail rendering in video ? Before the GH6, like on the GH5 and G9, the fine details looked exactly like raw photo, now they look like jpg with some NR added, the image in low light is cleaner than before, but the details don't look natural.
    They did the same on the S5II with most picture profiles, and even V-Log has some bad edge sharpening compared to the S1 and S5.
    So of course, the AF is improved and I'm happy to use both my S5II and G9II and getting very good AF, but I also keep my S5 and GH5 because they draw much better fine details in low light.

I've just watched a few comparison videos on your channel and I'm going to stick with the S5 and G9 for a while, maybe get a G9 II for the 4k 120p in 10bit v-log down the track. I shoot 100p in 8bit on the G9, and the very limited 28mbps codec on the S5, so the G9 II can't be worse, can it?

    • @aiseurnae5976
      @aiseurnae5976 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@raksh9 Of course, the quality will be much better on the G9II. Even if fine details are worse than before, the 4K 120fps from the G9II has better quality than 1080p 120fps on both the S5 and G9.
      I don't think you will be disappointed by the G9II, the combination of great rolling shutter and colors makes the videos nicer than on the S5II IMHO (I have both).
