Yes, indeed! This video popped up on my YT home page and 'walking with a camera' is what I do, too, so had to take a look. Walk first, camera second some days, camera first, walk second on other days. You have a good vibe, and this is a good idea. Nicely done!
This is sooooooooo good! Loaded with gems to keep creatives healthy and thriving. On my walks the side channels of my mind are always working through rough spots that need fixed in something I'm writing or thinking of new things to write about, but the part I notice is the present, the lighting, the sounds and smells in nature. When I get home and back to my projects, miraculously there is new material to work with. Thanks for posting this inspirational piece!
What a fabulous video! Thoughtful, creative and interesting. Makes the art of photography a meaningful activity. Will certainly be catching up with the playlist, Ben. Excellent stuff!!
One of the best therapies I have found is to go to a place I'm very familiar with, and try to photograph it in a way I haven't done before. Maybe patterns in fallen leaves, or textures of tree bark, or geometric shapes of trails or bridges, etc... Maybe it's a sunny day with lots of interesting shadows, or an overcast day with soft light. I've found that I will get so engrossed in looking for interesting things to photograph that I'll lose track of time and completely forget any negative things in my life. It is such GREAT therapy! I've also met some interesting people along the way. Sometimes, when people see you with a camera, they like to stop and tell stories of when they used to photograph "back in the day", or maybe their grandpa gave them an old camera years ago and they have stories about that. I love to hear what people have done and where they've come from. Thanks for posting!
Been feeling under the weather here in the UK for quite a while now - it's been dull and rainy for what seems like most of the last year and I now have the Joy of a heavy head cold making me feel a bit miserable - So I'll give it a couple of days then get out there with my SL and Voigtlander 40mm f1.2...I very much enjoy this lens too with it's manual precision, Great fun !! Thanks as Always for the inspiration in your fine videos....
Like others, this came up on my feed today and I ended up subbing as soon as I finished watching it. Really inspiring. Beautiful blend of you, your photography, philosophy and storytelling of and around what you encountered on a day out walking.
Wonderful wording on what carrying a camera in your hand while you're walking does for the mind. I've told friends that walking, hiking, or attending outdoor events with my camera at hand allows me to focus my mind, or let it wander, or get myself into another mindset. You name it, and getting out with a camera (any camera) is completely healthy. I love using an older basic lens (My fave right now is a knock off 24mm 1.8 I found on etsy a couple years ago. Fast, love the bokeh, still wide on my asp-c K-3 iii, and the build quality is still top notch. Loved the video, off to look for more of your content :) (after I hammer Subscribe).
Fantastic video! This is the first time I’ve come across your channel. Great stuff. Similarly, I walk about 6 miles a day and always carry an old M mount 35mm manual focus. You’re so right about how it enables you to switch into a more considered and acute mindset of what’s around you. Abstract details and miniature “stories” suddenly come to the forefront. Thank you for posting. I’ve subscribed and really look forward to seeing more videos. (Lovely images too by the way 😊)
It’s nice to see a fellow wanderer. I do the exact same thing that you do in the exact same way except that I carry is a Sony RX 10 mark four. And you’re right, it helps the thought process of anything that might be going on, but it also relieves you of any ties except for the camera to notice things that otherwise would be passed by people in cars, bicycles, etc.
Just came across this video and your channel for the first time. Great message and beautiful photographs. I immediately recognized all the places from your photos. I’m from the same town, living in CC right now. Perhaps I will bump into you one of these days.
Fantastic. Well done and Thank you! BTW if you love Voigtlanders… the 40MM F1.2 on a Sony is pretty cool; also the Voigtlander 15MM F4.5… it’s slow, but it’s got mojo. Not trying to be about ‘gear’ - just enthusiastic about a kindred spirit re: manual / Voigtlander. And don’t even get me STARTED on the 110!
Very interesting and engaging. Subscribed. Some thoughts. I've never heard of this camera before. I jumped from G85 to Fuji XT3. Now waiting for X100VI. I am happy without full frame. I'm heading more and more to this style of shooting. Also, interesting new aspect ratio. Very close to my phone at 9:22 but a bit shorter. Will be sure to watch more of your walks. You are quick off the mark. The birds above, excellent. Keep up the great work. Very inspiring.
Coming upon something like that is never easy. I, too, have seen a few. The last was a pedestrian hit by a vehicle, I had passed by them earlier in the evening and knew exactly who it was. The one before that was a downed motorcyclist, something that hit a little close as I ride as well. It's a sobering reminder that we are not invincible, we are not immortal. Thank you for sharing your story, and thank you for sharing your photography with us. I don't carry a camera other than my phone most of the time, but I do try to take a camera along more and more lately. Sometimes, my phone is adequate, they've gotten better and better over the years and I would say the image quality from my S22 is better than my last point-and-shoot, so there's that, but it's really not the same experience, is it?
It’s always tough. If you get numb to it something is wrong. I do use the phone occasionally, but mostly to geotag or journal. Thanks for taking the time man.
Wow great photo's, I bring a camera with me every time I go out some times bringing an old Helios 44mm, I have tons of photos of how the smoke rolled over my town when the PNW had its fires during covid and new glass isn't always the way to go.
Great video as always Ben. The irony is, that as an M shooter, I had and sold that lens, I felt it was too big :--). It is a great lens, especially in the right hands
I also walk regularly... only about 3 miles... mostly in my general neighborhood. I do not normally carry a camera because I've seen this route thirty days a month for three years. On the odd occasion that I walk some different route I will take a camera. This was a nicely done video. Mostly about thinking about the why and fun of photography with just a touch about the equipment. No matter what, we do like to hear some little bit about the cameras.... after all, we like cameras of all types. I think I need to get out more. I am glad you can find the time to put the trails and cameras to use.
First time seeing your videos... I do a lot of walking around my home with my camera(s). I very rarely go out without it. Film or digital, one lens at a time, I allow myself a specific number of shots per walkabout. It directs you to observe, look, see, and compose. Great video and I have now subscribed to your channel. 👍👍
I live here, where you do and have spent a lot of time hiking / biking in these areas, and taking photos. Great to see your work - shows that one doesn't need to be in the "most amazing" location to take good shots.
I love the concept you're talking about. I also bring a camera; sometimes two cameras, one digital and one film. I'm far from a professional, neither live by taking photos nor do I live by it, but for pure interest.
I walk a couple times a day and usually bring one of my Sony 6000 series with either a Sigma prime or telephoto lens depending on whether I’m looking for landscape or wildlife. I also use a wrist strap but prefer to connect it to the tripod mount with a swivel base.
I just happened onto your video and channel... I love your weirdness and the walking meditation is an excellent way to, as you say, get exercise and explore the world for both inside and out for images
Just came across your channell! What a wonderful journey you are on I watching from Germany and the photos are awesome! Simple and thought provoking.. New sub directly ❤...😊
Wow, great video…. Love how different your content is compared to all the other photography videos, definitely coming back to your channel… Subscribed….
Excellent work! I both walk and photograph but hardly ever together. Yesterday I tried an old Olympus 50mm 1.8 on my Olympus Pen E-PL8. Both together are quite heavy but the results seemed good just around my home. That''s going out with me this weekend. Thanks for the inspiration.
Excellent Ben. Love a channel that places emphasis on the artistry, yet also shares the gear and technique. All my favourite lenses, old and new, have one thing in common - an aspherical element or two here and there. That little Voigtlander falls into that category.
I really appreciate your eye. Nothing beats walking around with a camera, just to see what ya see -- but uff da, your "I'm just out for a walk" photos are levels beyond what I'm seeing. Inspires me to walk a little slower, maybe.
The difference can be when we are out there it requires practice to be mindful and to see ! Seeing is a gift which is acquired over time. Then there's being kind to yourself. Then at least once a day do one act of kindness, this is the most difficult task !
right on ben, i always have a light-weight compact camera with me. at 79 i have the time to explore and keep fit at the same time. been a panasonic lumix user for the past 10 years. having a few 50 year old pentax takumar lenses that i purchased new when i was a younger man adds some spice to my outings. zen billings in canada
Cool video. I mean, this is right up my street. I love walking aimlessly, camera in hand. So good for the mind and body. Love getting out on my mountain bike too….although walking is great, the bike can take you to so many more places much quicker. Love this vibe..sub'd👍
I see you’re using the L Mono D profile? I love how the center of the frame glows and the edges kind of fade away. I assume that’s done in your edit. Deep, rich tonality, not that scratchy high-contrast bs. Black and white can have so much depth when done right. Great images Ben!
Thank you sir. It's all from the lens. I shoot with that profile but then do my own edit to the raw, and I don't do very much. Thanks for the comments.
Police line tape. A body. I can certainly visualize that. Not just visualize, but, smell it, and even taste it, in the early morning air, too. (High humidity allows one to taste the air. Plenty of humidity, here along the Gulf Coastal Plain) From 2010 to very early 2018, I photographed crime scenes and crime victims, an added duty during the final years of my 33+ years of working night shift, as a first responder, for the tax payers. Let’s all take care, of ourselves, and each other. Well-done, thanks. Liked, and subscribed. I’ll add that it took me a while to re-learn to want to photograph things. For a while, I only photographed nature, and natural things. Then, I added the Leica M system, starting with a pre-owned 50mm Leica M lens. A weather-sealed Canon 100mm Macro L lens, with then-new AF tech, had been the optical “tool of my trade,” and using the best auto-focus tech of the time, in DSLRs, I specialized in photographing living, breathing, still-traumatized assault victims. Action “portraits,” action macro. So, well, after retirement, I needed something very different, to re-learn how to want to photograph people. Very much manual focus. Low-tech. Again, a well-done presentation. Thanks.
Thanks very much for taking the time to write this. The cool thing about photography is it’s not a destination, it’s a journey and way of being. Through the practice we learn more about ourselves and our place in the world. Good stuff.
I was about to start cussin' you bad when I read your first lines! Good thing I continued to not judge (but ease up on the gore, please!) Photography is vital evidence of many different aspects.
At 2:34 .. walking allows me time to think.. it's kind of like moving meditation.. carrying a camera somehow for me it sharpens the senses... Love this ... exactly why I carry a camera everywhere.. I'm in a thinking job... thanks for this video and others... love the photography !
Going against the grain my lens of choice is a Minolta Rokkor RS 250 mirror lens F5.6 on my Fuji X-T30 mark two. I zoom out with my legs. Be lucky stay safe.
Great post. Thank you. Sometimes one gets lost in distractions that are helpful but aren’t creating or empowering, just relaxing you. These are good, great, but I’ve been reminded here that self-treatment can lead to active positive output, not just passive balance. At a few points I was sceptical, is he turning this into a “hidden” lens review - not. Thanks for not.
Neither the lens nor its adapter is weather sealed and you do not have any bag when walking under humid time : how do you manage that ? Is the vidéo only à show ? Thanks
I set an in camera crop for 65x24. This imports into Lightroom for the raw but the whole frame is still there if I want to use it or reframe. Pretty cool. Thanks for stopping by.
Loved your story and your very mindful landscapes. I’ve studied photography and practised the art for 30 years or more. I always carry a camera wherever I go and pretty much do the same as yourself, although I have trouble walking due to an arthritic condition, but as they say use it or lose it. You were such an inspiration in that video. Thank you. MICHAEL from Melbourne Australia
Why would anybody carry a camera in their hand and not use neck-strap to help keep it from hitting the ground if something happens? One guy told me that using a neck-strap makes one look like a tourist. That doesn't even make sense. What if a person is carrying the camera in their hand and they trip and drop it? What if they need both hands to pick something up?

Absolutely! I consider my camera to be my sketchbook. I always have one with me on my walks. As I like to say, I’m a walking fool. I love to walk.
Thanks for sharing. This video somehow felt different than others. Thanks for the inspiration
Thanks for watching
Ditto here on great video. Very well done. Seeing something like that makes you appreciate being alive and the time you have here on earth.
Thanks for watching

another great display of beautiful images! Great work Ben.
Thank you Paul
First time here and really enjoyed this. Some wonderful captures there, you have a good eye. Subbed.
Welcome aboard and thanks for your time. 🙏🏼
The power of a walk … awesome! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the benefits of getting out there (with a camera) and your fine images. 📷😄
Glad you enjoyed it!

GREAT at it, literally!! Beautiful photos! You live in an interesting & lovely area! 🇺🇸

@@adventureStaley I'm certainly enjoying its various qualities so far and especially the 40mm focal length...
I have the exact same combination, the SL and the 40mm are wonderful.
Amazing narrative and B&W photography, congrats!

Wow great photo's, I bring a camera with me every time I go out some times bringing an old Helios 44mm, I have tons of photos of how the smoke rolled over my town when the PNW had its fires during covid and new glass isn't always the way to go.

At 2:34 .. walking allows me time to think.. it's kind of like moving meditation.. carrying a camera somehow for me it sharpens the senses...
Love this ... exactly why I carry a camera everywhere.. I'm in a thinking job... thanks for this video and others... love the photography !
This is the way. Thank you!
❤❤❤
THank you

Going against the grain my lens of choice is a Minolta Rokkor RS 250 mirror lens F5.6 on my Fuji X-T30 mark two. I zoom out with my legs.
Be lucky stay safe.
Cool. Do you!
Muy hermoso, tremendo trabajo, saludos desde chile
Gracias
Great post.
Thank you for taking the time.
Neither the lens nor its adapter is weather sealed and you do not have any bag when walking under humid time : how do you manage that ? Is the vidéo only à show ? Thanks
How would I accomplish those photos if it were only for show? And what would be the purpose?
I too walk a lot and carry a camera. I always, never fail to come across interesting things in this world.
It's an interesting world. Thanks for watching.
Like this a lot Roy UK
Thank you Roy
Just bought an old Nikkor lens. Plan to do something similar...
Awesome. Those lenses are great!
Great video

Absolutely loved this video, love your style. New sub from me.
Hey thank you so much Mark!
Your photos seem panoramic. Did I see correctly and it is a camera setup? I imagine that you may be losing some resolution 🤔 is that correct?
I set an in camera crop for 65x24. This imports into Lightroom for the raw but the whole frame is still there if I want to use it or reframe. Pretty cool. Thanks for stopping by.
Loved your story and your very mindful landscapes. I’ve studied photography and practised the art for 30 years or more. I always carry a camera wherever I go and pretty much do the same as yourself, although I have trouble walking due to an arthritic condition, but as they say use it or lose it. You were such an inspiration in that video. Thank you. MICHAEL from Melbourne Australia
Thank you Michael.
Do you take Jpg images using the build in LUTs? Or do you postprocess your snaps?
The shots in this video were edited in Lightroom. But lately I have been using REAL TIME LUT in the camera to capture JPEGs. It’s pretty cool.
Thank you..

Man people do the weirdest things…
Do you think this will colour how you feel about your studio? Sounds like this tragic scene was very close by.
Good question. I don't. And I'll walk by that spot every time I visit the studio..
Awesome video. Subscibed
Awesome, thanks for stopping by!
You do not answer thé question : how to you manage bad weather with non wr equipment and no bag ?
I live in the high desert and it rarely rains. When it does rain I protect the camera.
Big no-no in Philadelphia
