I'm surprised none of these vids on old BGs metas mention anything on tirion. Since scaling was so sparse back in the day, the fact that his hero power gave +1+1 to your board for 2 gold (so long as the minions had no tribe) was such a good deal that it basically guaranteed you top 4.
That's why I loved forcing murlocs back in the day. The only trible that actually scaled in any reasonable capacity pre-elementals.
I remember when they still had the dino that would adapt all of your murlocs. The very last day before they removed it I managed to get a board with like 120/120 murlocs who all had windfury, divine shield and taunt
I love these videos looking back at HS's history. Especially as a player who only started playing 6 months ago.
i played a few games towards the beginning, but only really started playing when quillboars were added, so these history videos are all super interesting, its cool to see what i missed.
also i didnt realize how long it took for pirates to be added, id thought those had been in the game since release honestly, im surprised theyre still not in after this video

I was playing the first meta and the second (dragons?)
Then I stop playing for a long time and came back during quest event, and I enjoyed it a lot, many new thing, it was so refreshing
I tried the Undead but lost interest after a few hours
I just realised i haven't been onlinefor more then a week, can't wait for the quest to get back
It kinda says something when the fun content on youtube for hearthstone is either Kripp/Dogg/Rdu/Whatever streamer u prefer posting their 999th game of BGs ( which likely end up as background audio for most) or videos capitalizing on the nostalgia of HS back when it was super popular ( like Rarran has done and Ben is doing right now ) . The game has severly fallen off in recent times tbf .

First ever patch I didn’t know triples were a thing - I forced murlocks every game and went to tavern 6 to get megasaur and manager to win a fair few before finding out 😂😂
That's why I don't like the current meta. I go for a tribe and then can roll 15 times before finding something worthwhile in that tribe, there's jsut too much shit everywhere now. I liked the times when I could consistently force any build
I wish they would let us play private lobbies with past patches. But thats probably just the nostalgia talking.

Hey Ben. I am sorry for bad English, its not my first language. Here comes another opinion from İnternet, that nobody asked for. But maybe it will help, so why not)
Its i am becoming very sad, when i am looking how you trying to "find right format". I totally understand, that its normal - hear audience, count likes and etc. But you always stop on first few steps - views drops, you moving to another format, and its repeating again.
I remember Rarran - about year ago (or even more) he was also trying to find new format, whining "how its hard to make content in HS in 202*". And he did, but not with particular one - with ****ing tonn of content! And i am think that it was becouse he realise - its HE who need enjoy this videos at first place. And when he like it and have fun, it come out better, audience feel it.
İ really hope you will drop trying find some kind of goldmine and just do what YOU like the most. And when you start - dont give it up.

Hmm.. pretty sure i started playing battlegrounds in late 2020/early 2021 based on this. I think elementals were just released if I remember right. Crazy how weak the meta used to be back then.
Would be better if you did prior research not just guess card names, card effects, changes that were in place etc. Anyone can watch old hs bgs you didnt add much value
I played during this time and did research (check one of my previous videos on the history of BG). I even forget names of cards currently in the game like most people do, and my goal was to "react" to that current meta and gameplay to see how things evolve, not give a guide on that meta or list every change. The value I tried adding was compiling everything into 1 place and sharing my insights from when I played at that time + comment on that current game
Hearthstone is such a visual game that I also forgot most names even when I know looks and effects by heart. I also started battlegrounds 2 months ago, so getting compiled infos on past metas is pretty interesting. I hope at some point blizzard does an event where they bring all the removed cards back for like 1 or 2 weeks. Might be too chaotic though
I think Ben did a great job. Very nostalgic and saw lots of things that I forgot about. I miss watching Bebe play battlegrounds. Loved this video
For the longest time if you could get megasaur to give your board of murlocs divine shield and poison, you won.
