Seeing people with two 4/4 hangry dragons on turn 9 was a painful sight
Hangry dragons = top 8
Hangry dragon was hands down the card that makes you go from first to last simply by owning it. It was a curse
@@Veaeate it used to be so nasty with double hangry dragon from afk. Used to be able to hit tier 6 so fast from afk hangry
4:00 the problem with minions like Mounted Raptor and Piloted Shredder is that is _WAS_ based on mana cost, which isn't a thing in Battlegrounds. You could have Piloted Sky Golems dropping Megasaurs and it made no sense.
Colbalt was replaced because everyone was using it. A lot of minions reliably summoned mechs at the time.
I think cobalt was replaced because they wanted to reword it to be more clear if you summon mechs during battle it regains divine shield
I definitely miss faceless the most. You could do so many highroll comps with it and hit huge power spikes. Was sad to see it go
I believe Cobalt guardian was removed cause it gave to much instant tempo. Deflect-0-Bot usually leads on a players board, providing only 3 attack. The attack scaling makes it better than the guardian only in late game. I remember murlocs were extremally broken at the time (as is often the case), and mechs are supposed to beat murlocs. I assume they wanted to make sure Deflect0 would one shot giant murlocs, at least by the end of the round.
there's also the fact that originally, deflecto-bot would gain only +1 attack per summoned mech during combat. It got buffed at a point somehow
I remember that since initially dragons weren't in the game, Zoobot and the other guy could only buff 2 minions (unless you had an amalgam)
The pain of miss clicking with faceless taverngoer will never be known by today's players
Miss the Tirion full righteous protector, boogeyman, festering, bolvar and selfless combos with neutrals.

The game truly has changed so much
I've watched some videos of OG battlegrounds and the power jump is insane in game - going from being worried about 6/6s on turn 7 to trying not to die on turn 7
Well I’ve played battlegrounds since I could remember and then I stopped playing for like a year and I still remember these cards and didn’t know they were removed
I remember nefarian being considered the best hero in the game in the earliest day of Hearthstone battleground. Times have changed...
probably the ONLY hearthstone battleground content creator making these super creative and addicting content. Please do more like this!
I'd love to see like a 1 week type event where every hero / card gets reverted to pre-nerf state and all old heroes and cards come back to see who / what build will remain supreme. I'd love to see nefarain come back he has been my favorite hero by far followed by george.
A couple corrections:
1. The real miss on Righteous Protector is not just that it's a Tier 1 Divine Shield, but that it's a Tier 1 Divine Shield Taunt. This allowed it to be a great slot filler for lategame boards as it could protect your units from two attacks or pop some shields, and it was preferred because 1 Attack means it can also block a Zapp from killing your Baron, especially if Baron is given additional Attack.
2. "Summon a random x-cost minion" cards (ie: Raptor, Shredder) were removed because those were leftover phrasing from when they were cards from Traditional Hearthstone. Mana cost doesn't exist in Battlegrounds, and they were all gradually removed to make room for cards whose effects were more straightforward.
3. Zoobot and Menagerie Magician were originally around when there were only 4 types around - Mech, Demon, Murloc, and Beast. It was fine back then, with the caveat of only two Dragons around (The Amalgams), but as more types were added, they had to be replaced for more broadly useful cards.
4. Cobalt Guardian was replaced because it was too good early on. Deflect-o-bot is the better lategame unit, but Cobalt's 6 attack out of the gate, with a rather easy activation requirement for Divine Shield, meant it could carry fights early on.
5. In the early days of Battlegrounds, Mechs were very over represented (compared to the ~15-16 of most types, Mechs had over 20). As a result, a lot of Mechs like Annoy-o-tron, Psych-o-tron, and Shielded Minibot were removed solely to give other types a chance to breathe.
And there's more stuff to say about the arguments presented in that video.
It feels like he doesn't know half of the stuff he's speaking about.
6:06 fun fact when we have zoobot and witch(i think) at game launch there are no dragons in game so amalgam or missing full value

My options are Iron Sensei and Herald of Flame. The first was really fun and if you had 2 of them and no mech they buff themselves, like to think it was friend with deflectobot. Herald of flame was really epic when it was the last minion standing and there was 7 low hp minions
Elistra was a win condition for some decks, it was really strong, I know it's wrong say that I miss her but I am always happy to see this card win on its own

Back in the day there werent many comps so cobalt was super OP as soon as it got shield. You would sometimes place it late and place your reset first to give it shield.
Also kindly grandmother is now replaced with the rat that summons the 2/3 taunt. Zoobot and menagerie magician was in BG before dragons were in, so it only buffed 2 tribes max back then. I loved tormented ritualist and the wagtoggle as they could provide quite some tempo giving you the ability to scale. Also miss psychotron!
You skipped Amalgem which was in the game at the start as a 2 drop, eventually got replaced with dong and is now back as a 3 drop. I miss faceless and hamuul most. Nefarian used to always get first place start of BG or Deryl. It was really hard with divine shields to win vs nefarian and they ghoul you but not themself.
Mounted raptor did spawn 1 costs from normal hs. PTSD from random toxifin dealing 4 anyone?
Also hank brings me sweet memories, i got spicy pretzel mustard tripling into in turn 2, insta lvl to 3 finding another one and powerlvl to 5, to discover double kalecgos from triples
Thanks for this video! Loved it as I only picked up BG last year. I didn't know about the removed heroes at all, and never played in the pogo meta (if such a thing existed)
You forgot to say the funny thing about zoobot - there were not dragons for a long time in battlegrounds. So his dragon buff could go only to amalgam.
Sad how many solid cards were removed, ruined tempo and taunt - the safe mmr top 3-4 builds... Miss them, nostalgic viewing.

Something that wasn't mentioned about Menagerie Magician and Zoobot, was that we also had less tribes in the game at the time. Everything you said still stands of course, but they aren't as terrible as they seem now. Still not great and everything you said still stands.

Yes there were fewer tribes, so there weren't ones missing, but you're forgetting that originally there were no dragons (other than Nightmare Amalgam, briefly), so they were even more terrible

I would love to see cards like Crowd Favorite come back. Sure, its not game changing, but I really like the high scaling meta, would be fun to have this on the board tbh

I completely forgot about that cannon card until you mentioned it! Yes I do have PTSD about that. i would grab it every chance I got and would cry when it's the first thing to die.

Funnily enough with the right se:fin build I think that Giantfin would actually hold it's own, but still requiring a certain build would make it a pretty bad hero right now.
It took me 10 games to realize…hey, havent seen that 2-1 + 1-1 murloc in a while. Same with the 6-5 naga repeat spell lady. I like not reading patch notes. Its like small surprises. Also, I agree with all your points. Very good card review. I totally forgot about the attack me instead deathrattle paladin lady, she was so toxic lol 😆
2 Iron senseis could make the so called "cyrclejerk strategy", where they're the only 2 mechs and they buff each other

I love how in the example video for Tidecaller, it has poisonous, so that the attack buff doesn't matter at all... :)

I don't thing Tirion was boring at all. It actually allowed you to play the garbage neutral mininos, no other hero ever did that. It used to be my favorite hero at the time

I think I remember the rationale when they switched it being that they were removing the token Murloc, which is a tribe that's supposed to be strong in the early game, so they wanted a stronger version of Tidecaller to make up for that
“If shield minibot was in the game it would still be really strong” isn’t it basically pupbot now?
Maybe you forgot or didn’t play during cobalt meta, but cobalt gets divine shield from playing a mech even during tavern rounds, making cobalt a very very strong and safe card even without much refreshes because you can give him divine shield the turn you buy him with one mech. The only way to give deflecto divine shield is with annoyomodule, which also gives him taunt, making refreshes very difficult
I miss Tirion he was fun to play.
Most of this was memory lane but i entirely forgot about the Hexruin demon dude and Lady Vaj xD I honestly miss The Boogeymonster. He was decent with Tirion and i always had a soft spot for the poor guy.

I used to play Elistra a lot and taunt her too for big impact wit Arm of the empire.
The neutral package minions was very good at the time with Tyrion. That's why they was removed, along with Tyrion.
6:14 also that card was introduced BEFORE dragons were a thing, so it would only work with beast and murlocs

Righteous Protector (1/1 DS taunt) was removed because there was a hero who could buff non-tribe minions and this minion was too powerful with him. Maybe blizzard forgot to restore it.
I wish I had the chance to try out Tirion, he was in during the time I diddnt play the game then I saw that he was removed and was like wait what damn I wanted to try him out
I remember some high MMR streamers took Phalanx Commander. I think it was underrated.
I remember losing with hangry dragons and just keeping them even without them scaling up lol

I honestly want Tirion back. Feel he wouldn't be broken in the current meta, and would allow for some neutral comps.
I've been thinking this for awhile now. I've missed the neutral comps the game had, and think it would had a good layer in modern bg
I think he’d just be too slow. Guff and Wagtoggle are mediocre and slow now, and Tirion doesn’t have as many good minions to work with these days. Be interesting if they brought him back I just don’t think he’d be good.
I miss micro machine, it was so much fun to try and make it work and change it into a huge card.
I think you are underestimating siegebreaker a bit, the effect is useless but the stats were really good for the tier and he was helpful when you powerleved imo

Wow I thought some heroes in the game right now were awful but damn… those that were removed were straight garbage. At least that naga lady was brought back with a better hero power lol but damn blizzard, get rid of some of the trash again and slim down the hero pool please
It was a different game back then. Stats were a lot lower and divine shields were twice as powerful. Light fang was nerfed to +2/+1 and it was still pretty good. Now light fang is horrible at +2/+2. The powercreep over the past couple years has been insane and if you didn’t play BGs at release you wouldn’t understand. Games were shorter, stats were smaller, and money was way harder to come by. I wish they could bring back pre-dark moon BGs just so everyone could see how different it was
