Received a gamecube with this player and no disc from a friend and this video helped me a ton!

I'm pretty sure the Game Boy Player was made at a time when CRT TV was still very active which may explains why the video quality was made the way it was in this comparison video. The Game Boy Player was never meant to be presented in 480p sharpness with no scanlines. Remember in 2003 the sharpness of the quality on the Game Boy Player and CRT TV depends on your eyes, not on a captured device. The homebrew community didn't fix anything, if any they just change the quality from the old era to the new one. It's not that the Game Boy Player look worst on your HDTV, it's that your HDTV made it look worst due to the low resolution and no scanlines, the homebrew community just used software so to make it look better on it. On a regular CRT TV, the Game Boy Player looks fantastic cause it uses the correct resolution and quality.
Not everyone has a CRT screen laying around so for them it's great to have this fix
Gameboy player software on a crt tv still isn't ideal because the video output is interlaced. GBI on a crt can run the games in 240p and you'll get crispy scanlines with no interlacing.
This makes me want to homebrew a GameCube!!

I don't understand the point of this. Because if you've already got a modded GameCube running Swiss, couldn't you just boot an .ISO of the Gameboy Player disc found somewhere online?
You could that is what I did. It’s actually not an easy file to find I spent hours looking for the Gameboy player disc iso.

The gbi interface version is actually way better than the original disc.
@@jkarakizi but does it work? I clicked on several and the link was bad, download was bad or the iso did not work. I mean I found on the first go to but it didn’t work.
Also could be more downloads now. When I searched it was earlier this year. I ended up using the gbi instead for a bit. I checked my usual place and they didn’t have the iso.
So I followed the steps and nothing happens. I'm assuming I need a Swiss boot disc for this to work. The only thing that pops up is "this memory card can't be used"

When I play the GBI Speedrun version, there's an issue that occurs every 20 minutes or so: the games suffer from massive slowdown. In other words, the framerate drops immensely for a few seconds.
I think this has to do with a "refresh" rate or such. But do you know of any solutions to this? Any settings that I could tinker with?
@@blainelocklair I use Retrobit's Prism HDMI adapter to connect the Gamecube to my Sony Bravia TV.
Great video! Before I got my Gameboy Player Disc I used some files I put onto my GameCube memory card with a non modded GameCube and when I’d put in Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow disc in and start it up it would boot into a Gameboy player software. This one is nicer do to it having more options. I did have to have a modded wii to put those files onto the memory card.🤘🍻🤘
Now to actually buy a modded gamecube with a gb player lol
I just put one up for sale with pico boot, battery mod. Disc drive was broke. So pico saved it from going in the trash
i have question that i hope u could reply back if u find this. when using gbi with player, does it made a folder that save the cartridge's save file as backup or it can only play game via system with better quality?
Can I use the same SD card inserted into my SD Loader that contains all my Gamecube games for this or am I going to have to buy the memory card SD adaptor?
I love how you say Zero dollars and Zero cents. Hilarious. You need something like a Action Replay, SD2SP2 and a Gecko memory card adapter. It's not cheap or easy for a person that doesn't know what they're doing.🤣🤣🤣LOL
P.S. I rename my Swiss autoexec.dol and igr.dol for automatic loading and in game reset.

Uh, that requires Datel discs + SD card or a hacked memory card + exploitable game + SD Card which both require more than zero dollars and zero cents >_>

i tried to follow your tutorial on how to get swiss to run but my gamecube pops up a red error that says "An Error has occured. Please turn off your NINTENDO GAMECUBE and refer to the instruction manual" everytime i put a disc in before i can even try to launch 007
Check if the disc reader is working. Or check the console itself

Is it possible to run a GBA rom from the SD card instead of pluging a real game in the Game Boy Player ?
You can, through emulators such as mGBA, but that'd remove a lot of the appeal of using gamecube to run GBA games, no support for real carts, no ideal accuracy or speed. Also, if you want to do emulation there are plenty cheaper and simpler ways to emulate GBA and display it on a screen, such as emulating on your Smart TV, retroid or anbernic portable devices, PC, etc.

You can. If your backups are on an Everdrive.

@@mrfoameruk I hear ya. If you have a laptop you can download a GBA emulator and play your backups that way and you'll have save states. A feature everdirives still don't have.
It seems as though I have done it just using Emulators instead of the Gameboy Player. Just create a ROM file and name each system accordingly. I play lots of different systems. Just use Gamecube Emulators. Not Emulators for the Gamecube but on the Gamecube. They are hard to find but I think I even play Atari 800 games if I remember correctly.
I just checked. You definitely can with mgba_libretro_ngc. Try out atari800_libretro_ngc for Atari 5200 conversion of Centipede. It's great.
