Vini is fast, has decent dribbling...that's it. No player in this current Era wows you. They not going to score scorchers from 30 yards 4 or 5 times a season, they not going to dribble past 3 or 4 players breaking ankles. If anything they'll dribble past 1, feel a finger and collapse in agony. It's still good to watch. The wow factor is gone for me. Maybe it's my age 😂😂
@@BIGTHANKSHEESHYeah true, there’s a lot more of a system in place now. Look at teams like Man City, a few years ago Aguero would’ve been the standout player or Suarez at Liverpool doing amazing things. That is true ppl who say that havent seen a game from the 90-s or 00-s any time soon. I have and its a slog. Of course there are great players in every generation and they stand out, but great players back then stand out wayyyyyyy more just because everybody else cant keep up. Defenses are sloppy there is a ton of space everywhere so it is natural that there would be more dribbling in the midfield. Try to dribble a player now in the midfield if tou get past him you are clattered immediately by help and now you have to defend a counter attack
I heavily agree with you. Most of it is nostalgia of players who became legends and have already finished their careers so we have seen them at their very best whereas now we are watching players get into their prime and may not even be at their peak right now so it is just an unfair comparison especially since we don't know how good the current players will be and what kind of legacy they will leave behind.
@stefanokic406 Perfect example I'm watching Milan vs Liverpool right now. And there was a passage of play where both teams were just counter-attacking back and forth and as soon as one player picks up the ball he is suffocated by 3 defenders. No player is dribbling his way out of that without the defense making a mistake
It's because most of the majority driving this narrative never actually watched games from that period they consider the best most probably because they weren't born or were still in diapers. Exactly, in 10-15 years we are probably going to look back and see Yamal or Saka finishing like 10th and be like damn thats crazy also the point in Rodri is so good because what doesnt make him worthy compared to past players. His club and country rarely loses when he plays and he is has been instrumental in winning the prem and euros.
@@qBodihaaland spent 2 months injured and de Bruyne spent around 5 months out, Rodri was by far city’s best players last year dropping 9/10 performances every match at a minimum, putting up incredible attacking numbers for a dm.
football is less individualistic now. everyone has to fit in a system, complete a role, etc and theyre not allowed to bring their own thing to the team, instead theyre just forced to pass it back
One important aspect is that, when we look at a Ballon D'Or list from like 20 years ago, we already know how it ends. We're not seeing a player, say David Beckham or Roberto Carlos with the eyes of the people back then, we're seeing their whole stories, their complete careers. I mean, who knows if guys like Nico Williams or Odegaard, who were nominated this year will become legends as well... Maybe someday in 20 years someone will look at the 2024 list just as star-struck as Niran looks at the 2003 list.
Closest thing you get to swagger now is a Panenka, and all it is is knocking the ball down the middle. Mourinho & Benitez brought Bus culture, Pep & Klopp brought Data Science.
If yall remember the Nike advert where the originals play the clones, unfortunately the sport is moving towards the clones direction irl. Greater emphasis on team tactics and decision making over expression
If you need any proof of how underrated football is, Haaland has scored more goals than entire teams in the Prem. Football is crazy right now and is definitely a better game, despite how nostalgic we can be about the early 2000s and 90s. I’m certainly not complaining.
No, the level of skill is just so much higher across the board that it means you get less unique, standout players. You stand out more these days if you're not capable of doing the skill moves that only the top players were capable of in the late 90's and early 2000's. Watch someone like Salah and you'll see him do more highlight reel touches and turns in an average game than someone like Zidane might have done in an entire season but because it's so normal for the level of the modern game, it just goes under the radar. Yeah sure, this could be seen as a bad thing but that's just the evolution of the sport, those who watched players like Cruyff as children learned and improved on his skills and this multiplied the number of clever turns being done by the time they got their time in the spotlight and then the next generation learned and developed the new skills from that generation and so on and so forth until we get to the modern generation who grew up watching Messi and Ronaldo and will ultimately surpass them in terms of practical skill and creativity.
More tactics, less flair and opportunities of players to express themselves. Everybody does the same thing, same pass, same decision. Football is more predictable as a whole, which makes it less exciting in a sense. But as a counterpoint, players are much better on average than ever before.
As lucky as we have been to have watched Ronaldo and Messi over the years I can't help but feel like they've made us underappreciate other players cause year after year they reached insane levels of performance. They made 50 goal seasons look normal, and now as the post Messi/Ronaldo dominance era has begun, we see attackers who score 20-25 goals a season and they are considered "mid".
People underate Kane in this, if we ignore trophies he probably has had the best individual season with the records broken in the bundesliga and he even scored that late england goal and half way line goal, let alone top scorer in the top 5 leagues, ucl and euros, but it is an award that is 50% team success, 50% individual moment
Back then it only used to be 2 players contending for it, but now It's multiple. What I'm trying to say is that everyone has a chance of winning it, unlike the Messi and Ronaldo era. But the Ballon D'or has lost all its credibility after the 2010 robbery. But any who, the competitive has increased dramatically compared to those times. So I'd say it's a good thing.
Football as a collective has not gotten worse in terms of play. The best teams today will beat the teams from back then on tactics and teamwork. But the individuality and flair , and one man shows of the past like messi and ronaldo will never happen again.
As a person who watched football in the middle of the golden age, I feel that this itself marks a new evolution and standard. Maybe for nostalgia terms its far beyond perfect, thought give it some time we'll see the standard of the new era come creeping up to its great.
It sure is. It’s become to corporatized and toned down in terms of controlling the on pitch product. I started watching religiously, here in the US, in 2007 and can tell the difference between then and now.
We are now in an transition period, and the void left by the end of the Messi and CR7 era feels worse because a lot of the players that we imagine would take the spot after them, had an early decline, like Bale, Hazard and specially Neymar, so it's like we went from Messi and Ronaldo to a bunch of young players who still arefar from their prime
Tbf Rodri should be a fantastic nomination got 21 Goal contributions as a Dm (considering zidan got 26 as a number 10 Rodri has done fantastic) won the league for a record 4th in a row whilst becoming the longest unbeaten player in history, Euroes winner and pott, i think he has done more than enough to sit amongst the balondor winners of the past
Since FIFA came onboard the Ballon D'ors became a money generating machine. The reason why Messi and CR7 won so many awards, their marketability to generate 3rd party money. Ever since its been a popularity contest rather a footballing one. The award is about a player's performance ( MVP's, goal contribution, defensive contribution) to his/her team's success ( winning trophies) that season or year.
footballers lacking in ability, flair and the ability to shoot straight combined with negative tactics (thank mourinho) has lead to the downfall of the beautiful game
I agree with a lot of people in this comment section saying that we're in a new era and that football is objectively better than it was 20 years ago as far as a team sport is concerned. I think what's mainly changed is that teams nowadays strictly follow proven formulas that lead to success and, as a result, we now have football that is a lot more polished and fluid. However, such systems don't allow for any sort of that individuality that made the 2000's so special and that's what I kinda miss about football - the fact that we are quite unlikely to see another legendary link-up like Demba Ba and Papisse Cisse at Newcastle or a one-season wonder like Michu for a while I think is a shame but we have shifted away from individual random moments of glory to teams being well-polished and that's what's changed.
Football as a whole is better due to technology, better coaching, diets, fitness and equipment players use but because its so strategic the individual brilliance or improvisation is less or nearly dead which leads to less exciting and iconic moments
I'm sorry but can't look back at 1999 or 2000 and name all these players and think its insane that they are all nominated when half of the players nominated today are still young, like yeah Bellingham, Vini, Foden, Saka, Wirtz, Yamal damn even Haaland dont stack up to players in the past but they are young and you could look back in 10 years and Saka could finish 10th and you could call that insane.
Last player that wowed me was Jamie Vardy, at least he is interesting, you know it's gonna be a good time when you see him, the jokes, the attitude, goals. In his late 20s at that. Bro was once in a lifetime material.
You can watch the old way of playing if you watch Real Madrid. And I can tell you rn, we have been playing like shit under Ancelotti since he's gotten here, but hey it gets the results
Although after being spoiled by Messi-ronaldo era ,there are various conclusion we may make as fixture congestion require players to provide constantly through out the year many players have burn out at relative early age (Dybala),plus young players like yamal ,Bellingham are playing more than required for their age as compared to Messi himself at 16-17 and David becham at 20-21 thus this is hindering their learning curve and the involvement of mechanic tactics have destroyed players ability to show free will, all this is curse which is due to the over globalisation of football ,football is art not some 10 season entertainment tv drama, art requires chaos and time to exceed.
Personally , I think the reason why these nominees don't seem like old times is because football has become more team-machiney. Players have the stats but the individual flair seems lacking. But I'm not too put out, I've never really cared about the ballan dor (spelling), as long as i can still enjoy a football game, I'm golden.
I feel you on the sponsors on the shirt, Hate the betting companies, so hypocritical. We will never get an Arsenal Dreamcast sponsor for example. Thats why I really like Barcelona’s Spotify and Inter Milans most recent sponsors. Disagree with it being an indictment if Rodri wins the ballon d’or, Rodri’s position just isn’t the sexy striker position. Haaland should have won the previous ballon d’or with the treble and the prem one season goal record but Messi world cup. I would find it rather refreshing if Rodri won it. He lost 1 game last season and it was the FA Cup. Vini Jr. did amazing as well for Real Madrid but for the national team it was pretty subpar. Rodri won the 4 peat prem with City (Never been done before in england) and the Euros, lost only one game play and the only reason City didn’t get to the Champs League final was a coin flip pen’s situation with Madrid. Rodri should win, but Vini Jr. has better PR should they will give it Vini.
Nevermind the lower leagues. Just watch the Beckham half way line goal. People talk like that was the greatest magical touch of all time. That goal was so shit. He just caught the keeper way out. Looks like Sunday league to be honest.
The Ballon D'or thing is dumb first of all it shouldnt even matter since Romano will just spoil the winner, than second its like 100 reporters chosing the winner which just means its a popularity contest and third of all not like before like Dinho were any players realy like the top 25 players of all time like Nedved or Owen or Rivaldo or Sammer like who even are half these pepole and thats less than 30 years ago
definitely don't think it's gotten worse. Like any sport, it changes and evolves. With football being so vast and culturally linked, there are various circumstances that lead to such changes.
Hindsight is 20/20. You hear those names now and you think wow legends of the game but back then some of these players were being slagged off as overrated not to mention some of them werent even fully household names. Football has gotten less individualistic, which is a good thing for a TEAM sport

His club and country rarely loses when he plays and he is has been instrumental in winning the prem and euros.
@@sunnycombo5275nico Williams yamal olmo and ruiz were instrumental for spain, haaland and kdb for city, shut up with your dude
@@qBodihaaland spent 2 months injured and de Bruyne spent around 5 months out, Rodri was by far city’s best players last year dropping 9/10 performances every match at a minimum, putting up incredible attacking numbers for a dm.
@@Hellothere-ok4pk go give a kiss to him and shut it, the only reason he's overhyped is bcs real is 2 strong contenters for ballon d'or
football is less individualistic now. everyone has to fit in a system, complete a role, etc and theyre not allowed to bring their own thing to the team, instead theyre just forced to pass it back
One important aspect is that, when we look at a Ballon D'Or list from like 20 years ago, we already know how it ends.
Vinicius winning the Ballon Dor would be a literal criminal offence
Thats Rodri
Closest thing you get to swagger now is a Panenka, and all it is is knocking the ball down the middle. Mourinho & Benitez brought Bus culture, Pep & Klopp brought Data Science.
If yall remember the Nike advert where the originals play the clones, unfortunately the sport is moving towards the clones direction irl. Greater emphasis on team tactics and decision making over expression
The criteria got ruined when it went from "who is the best individual player in the world" to "who won the most the trophies".
Back in my day.....men didnt have wonky wall lights!
To anyone who thinks there are no more "number tens" look at Colombia 🇨🇴
Disrespect on Foden is CRAZY literally diddnt mention him once, he is the most exiting winger in the league and won prem pots
"Winger" you mean attacking midfielder
He's a midfielder you clueless, no idea what's his rolle even and simp him

Since FIFA came onboard the Ballon D'ors became a money generating machine. The reason why Messi and CR7 won so many awards, their marketability to generate 3rd party money. Ever since its been a popularity contest rather a footballing one. The award is about a player's performance ( MVP's, goal contribution, defensive contribution) to his/her team's success ( winning trophies) that season or year.
If VVD was one of the fav's for the D'or, we would've gotten a different kind of video but i guess agenda must agend
footballers lacking in ability, flair and the ability to shoot straight combined with negative tactics (thank mourinho) has lead to the downfall of the beautiful game
Niran dont trash talk my man Vitinha. Hes being a great player since his debut in Porto
Still won't change the fact that Haaland was robbed of his Ballon D'or last season
I miss old football. Teams play so boring now and individual brilliance is not relied on anymore
nah fam i saw the thumbnail and was thinking “poor rodri” 😂😂😂
16:30 That's if City doesn't get charged. if they're guilt this era is a bit tainted isnt it?
Football will always change. Focusing on the good only is an unfair way of comparing cause there was a lot of times were it was shit Aswell
Endrick:'I preferred the Victorian era'
FOOTBALL FANS FOREVER.🌟.
However, such systems don't allow for any sort of that individuality that made the 2000's so special and that's what I kinda miss about football - the fact that we are quite unlikely to see another legendary link-up like Demba Ba and Papisse Cisse at Newcastle or a one-season wonder like Michu for a while I think is a shame but we have shifted away from individual random moments of glory to teams being well-polished and that's what's changed.
lautaro martinez has a solid shout
Football as a whole is better due to technology, better coaching, diets, fitness and equipment players use but because its so strategic the individual brilliance or improvisation is less or nearly dead which leads to less exciting and iconic moments
2015 is when football peaked...
Love your videos
In my opinion 2006-2012 was the best football era so many great games and classic players emerging
Or between 1990 to 2020, we just had the best of football
I'm sorry but can't look back at 1999 or 2000 and name all these players and think its insane that they are all nominated when half of the players nominated today are still young, like yeah Bellingham, Vini, Foden, Saka, Wirtz, Yamal damn even Haaland dont stack up to players in the past but they are young and you could look back in 10 years and Saka could finish 10th and you could call that insane.
If you want freedom in football, you need to have coaches that uses freedom as their tactic.
Last player that wowed me was Jamie Vardy, at least he is interesting, you know it's gonna be a good time when you see him, the jokes, the attitude, goals. In his late 20s at that. Bro was once in a lifetime material.
Rodri is wonderful. He’s not flashy, but he gets the job done and how. He’s a Busquets. It’s not all about goals
He's no where near busquets but ok
3:47 blud just listed Bellingham's season but worse (exc. WC)😭
the fact that Salah is not on there makes the Ballon Poor an absolute joke
I was lucky enough to get a little taste of retro ball AND see the new guys since I was born in the mid 2000s
Positionism is creating death of Football . We badly need Relationism
you’re perception of reality is a reflection of your mind 🔮
Watch a real madrid match from 2006, I swear it's torture
The title races have still been really good. Liverpool and City, arsenal and City, City and City oh wait...
Personally , I think the reason why these nominees don't seem like old times is because football has become more team-machiney. Players have the stats but the individual flair seems lacking.
But I'm not too put out, I've never really cared about the ballan dor (spelling), as long as i can still enjoy a football game, I'm golden.
Frankly, this is just gibberish. This is just saying names of people who had very good careers. In ten years, we'll think of Vinicius as a legend.
i like how he just skips the name of players he doesn't know
I think the 3 best players of last season were far and away Haaland, Rodri and Wirtz
Stopping people from saying 50th😁
im glad i grew up in the right era
pre messi and ronaldo ballon dor numbers were 30 to 40 g/a
the reason people say this is because of ronaldo and messi
their stats just make people think 20 goals is average now
surprise surprise a Liverpool fan hating on a City player
It hasn’t gotten worse it’s just lifeless and boring every team has the same playstyle
Nevermind the lower leagues. Just watch the Beckham half way line goal. People talk like that was the greatest magical touch of all time.
That goal was so shit. He just caught the keeper way out. Looks like Sunday league to be honest.

The best era in football was 96-06. Facts!
