As an architect considered about occupant health I recommend electric for superior indoor air quality. Do you always open the windows when you cook? Probably not.

We renovated our kitchen this year and went with electric. I'm not comfortable with flammable gas venting into the kitchen, especially if there's a leak.

If you're a real chef, try to use a wok on an electric stove.

Thx for this video. I'm trying to decide how to set up my rental property. A lot of people like gas stoves and enjoy them more but I also think electric can be safer (no fire no flame? ) . And it gets pretty cold in northern CT and ice heard of gas-lines freezing though I don't know how often that actually happens. What do you think?

High power electricity to run a stove in addition to other appliances might not be available in old homes. Precise control to stop food from boiling over. I can see and hear when gas is on, but not a flat pad heated not quite to incandescence. Gas might release more water vapors, but at the point when that matters electric would have guzzled up a lot of money. Why would a gas stove cost more? The piping and nozles are simple parts.

Im not a sales guy but I owned an electric and it took 1 chemical, 1 razor blade and electric stove top acrub brush and cleaning weekly. When I switched to gas I havent needed to clean my cast iron once. They burn off and I just have to clean the stove top itself. The only problem I have is the ignitor on my used unit is iffy and wont work on 1 of the burners but it's a simple fix with a lighter or wafting the flame from the front burner to the back when the gas is on.

You have a good point. I live in an area where electricity goes out frequently in the whole neighborhood. It's just the way it is. I don't even bother setting my microwave or stove clocks b/c there will be a power failure. It's awful.

totally disagree about the cleaning part. The electric stoves are difficult to clean if your food spills over and touches the heated surface. It is a permeant damage to the stove surface. Not to mention scratches that might come from trying to clean after any spill over.

The house I grew up in had a gas stove, now after moving out and having to use electric stoves for 4 years I CAN'T WAIT to have another gas.Sure, there are potential safety concerns involving gas, but it heats faster, you can instantly take away the heat (electric still has a hot surface after turning eye down), and can actually season my cast iron skillets properly. I hate electric stoves!!

Unless it's induction, electric is pretty much inferior in every way. Cooking on electric is unresponsive and miserable. Even keeping them clean sucks! Flat tops look absolutely filthy after one use-gas takes a while to get dirty.

electric is far inferior for cooking but superior for respiratory health (high VOC emissions associated with gas - some of which become hazardous without an externally vented range hood)
