    I just replaced the filters in my 2016 F20, but the pump had a hard time priming after the new filter was installed. After that it started whining and about 100 miles later, it stranded me in the middle of nowhere East of Roswell New Mexico. I pulled over and called USAA who sent an alien craft with three occupants who towed me to Roswell with their tractor beam. I got a hotel room and started researching the problem which brought me to your video. After watching your video, I went down to my truck in the hotel parking lot and turned on the key. I crawled under the truck and sure enough, the whine was coming from the rail-mounted fuel pump.
    The next morning I went down to O'Reilly and bought a new pump, then I went to Harbor Freight and bought a cheap socket set, a drain pan and a roll of blue mechanics paper towels. My wife assisted me, and we got the pump changed in about thirty minutes thanks to your video. The hardest part was the trick for getting the fuel lines disconnected. Once I figured out - like you said but I guess I missed it - that you need to PUSH the lines toward the connector until they click before they'll slip off, the rest was cake.

    If you get those coming in a with P0087, see if the customer is using the PM-22 and PM-23 additives. The reason I ask is because the cardboard disk from those bottle caps dislodge very easily, and can make its way into the fuel tank and block off fuel flow to the pickup inside the tank. I did this myself ONCE on my own truck! Since then, every time I purchase those additives, I pour them into five appropriately sized small jars to add to my fuel.

    Thanks for the great video. Unfortunately, Nothing seems to be as easy for me. This truck I purchased has an aftermarket 50 gal fuel tank. The end of it is partially wrapped around the pump and makes access to the back to fuel lines hell to get to. Managed to get it done, just not near as quickly!

    A-Rod, I have a 2014 F-350 single axle. I went to ford to get a simple oil, filter, & fuel filter change. Pretty simple! After completion, I went to my truck, started it, & it BARELY started. I immediately knew something was wrong because that never happened before ( 148k miles ). I also noticed a HUMMING noise coming from under the hood. Mechanic came out & said it had air in it & it would go away. YEAH!! I FELL FOR IT! Well, a week later, noise was just getting worse & worse, louder & louder. I finally took it to another dealership & they said it was my Low Pressure Fuel Pump. I had them replace it. $1400 & 2 days later, I’m here now asking WTH is wrong with my truck? My truck is starting the humming noise under the hood again. It’s coming from a violent vibration from the secondary fuel filter. Why will this noise not go away now? No one at Ford seems to know wth they doing! Please, I need your help 🙏

    Hey bud I'm having a little issue that is driving me crazy. I have a 2015 f250 6.7 200,000 miles and There is a whining noise when idling coming from the top engine compartment around the top fuel filter . I'll tap on the gas pedal and it'll go away but will come back after a drive and idle again.. I'll trun off the truck and I'll put the ignition switch forward without starting and the top filter is whining loud. I have changed both filters motorcraft and orings with new drain plug and rings. Everything is tight as sound be and still making that annoying noise. Any advice or tips for a fix ? Thanks

    My pump doesn’t squeal, but would a low pressure pump on the verge of going out cause a low fuel pressure message? And power reduction soon after? That’s what happened with my 2015 6.7, changed fuel filters, after purging takes awhile to start, get the low fuel pressure then power reduction, pulled the volume regulator on the cp4, no metal particulates

    • @PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod
      @PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are sure you tightened the cap all the way, then yes that message would support the replacement of the frame mounted 9G282 pump.

    Last fuel pump I saw like that on 13 that was whining was because it was sucking air, the guy had changed the fuel filter but cracked the damn thing so hard it cracked the case ( I know ..say what )and didnt noticed it because it "looked fine" So it was having an issue starting and was whining away, asked him if he did any recent work... just changed oil and fuel filtershe says..tell him did you check the fuel filter and the housing, no I just eyeballed it looks fine, told him take it off and have a look at it..nope.... go the next day to look at it, sure enough take it down housing cracked, take off the old one put on the new one work on getting air out of the fuel system he introduced, next thing you know...vrooom...lol

    I changed my filters and didn’t get it tightened enough. Had whirling sound and drove it a few days . Hauling my trailer under heavy load I got the reduced power and low fuel pressure alarm. I was like WTH ...I then tightened again and the noise was gone until I was hauling my trailer with heavy load then I could hear it again but no alarms or reduced power. Was not very noisy but I could still hear it. Does this mean my pump is going out?

Changed every 10,000 miles. Ford has warranted the pump each time but now say it is something else. I buy from Shell which turns the diesel regularly in their tanks. This last time I just change the filters @ Ford dealer after a breakdown. I tow travel trailers. They tore apart the pleated filter and did not see anything out of the ordinary after only 9,000 miles . Makes me not comfortable leaving the house at 2am. Any suggestions? Fast filter system? The truck is stock other then deleted and has an after market Titan 65 gallon fuel tank that has been installed a hundred thousand miles ago.

      NOT GOOD. Hope you have $11,000 bucks. Your whole entire high pressure fuel system needs to be replaced, I mean everything! The low pressure will need to be removed and flushed out. Drop tank, dispose of contaminated fuel...replaced pump inside of tank. I MEAN THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY NO SHORT CUTS FOR WHAT JUST HAPPENED. NOT WARRANTY!

      colas solorzano the pump is on the rail, when you get DEF in the fuel system it trashes the cp4 pump sending metal particles and pieces all throughout your fuel system, so everything needs to get replaced, look up ford 6.7 fuel contamination kit, Pensacola diesel gives you all OEM parts you need with the exception of the low pressure fuel pump, for like $3500 with a $1000 core charge, labor will run you around $3500-$4500 if you take it to a diesel shop and not the dealer, very costly mistake, next time add the disaster prevention kit on your truck

    I have a 2011 that I bought new. I've always taking care of it by the book. My filter isn't due to be changed just yet. I retired my truck back in March of this year and it had a quarter of a tank in it. Every now and then I would crack it up in the drive way and let it run for a half hour or so. Anyway now I'm getting a wining noise from from the same part that you're changing. It never did this until recently and when I first retired it, it wasn't doing it. Do you think that the filter inside might have growth in it or could it be that pump going bad? I ordered a filter for it so I'm gonna try changing the filter first. What should I do about storing my truck, should I fill up the fuel tank or leave it almost empty and what additive should I use if any is recommended. Sorry for my comment being so long. Thank you for your video, It was very informative. Take care friend. Thumbs up on this video. 👍

Get it, id recommend getting Ford's premium care as an extended service plan. Best bang for your buck. From factory you will get 3yrs or 36k miles-whole truck.....5 yr 100 miles on just engine. Then P-CARE will take u 100k miles bumper to bumer or 125k miles...and/or u can get the extended diesel engine care plus which takes ur engine to 200k, or 8 yrs from warranty start date. Hope this helps with your financial decision. Truck is awesome, ive built a 2017 entire truck from the ground up.... I KNOW!!
