Magnificent. I am a beginning knife maker. I have already received requests for engraving scroll work. I feel that it will be a long time before I am nearly anywhere near your ability. Thank you for sharing. Your work is very inspiring.
Excellent work, Kathryn! And myytname -- the music is "Moonglow" aka "Moonglow and Love" published in 1933 and written by Mills and DeLange. It is a jazz standard that has been recorded by Benny Goodman, Billie Holiday, Tony Bennett, Rod Stewart and others. I believe this recording is from Willie Humphrey's album entitled "Two Clarinets on the Porch".
"Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder." I think this is some very beautiful engraving, but other's out there will think differently. "Too each his own."
Please post more. Excellent craftsmanship is always appreciated. :) i would grateful if you also posted some "how-to" videos for adpiring engravers. Also, do you know if there are any of those cd's floating about that might be for sale? Or maybe send an mp3 of that song to me? I love that music.
I am an old school wood carver and would like to try my hand at metal. Where can I buy the chisels for this type of work. I've seen the air engravers but as with my wood work, I would prefer to learn the old fashioned way. Thank you.
i agree with the few, the shading is very fuzzy wuzzy if you pause at 1:00 nevertheless i cant do any better at this moment in time. still its beautiful, i like the design.
I think some people are over-reacting a little bit. If you pause at 1:00 you can clearly see what the CRITIQUE is about. Illustrators and craftsmen/women strive for perfection, moreso in this genre of art. As beautiful as this is the crosshatching and the weight of the hatching IS inconsistent in some the peices. There's nothing wrong in pointing that out as it helps more then it hurts but you have to be an artist to appreciate that. Critiques is about the work, never about the person.
not too bad , neat kindof look , has a rough look to it , but i think thats what you were going for , but very nice , i would have wrapped the scrolls just a bit more , maybe i can get time to try something different soon , feel like i am always so busy trying to make a living , don t even know if i am still engraving anymore , custom rings are boring , no creativity at all , sucking the life out of me doing the same thing basically over and over again
SERIOUSLY!!!!???? I'd second metairieclark's comments. And don't come back with "you have no idea what youre talking about," as I've been engraving professionally for 35 years. It's not a bad attempt but the shading is messy and the shapes of the leaves need working on. It's not quite there yet. But as this was put up 3 years ago hopefully the engraver has improved in this time.
If your in the US to see this type of enraving in masterclass pull out a dollar bill and use a magnifying glass to see the difference (google mages for everyone else).
