    I’m an old mech engineer from Ontario, I see the world the way this guy does - it’s a bit of a lonely paradigm - one very simple example: my wife, who is very successful and intelligent gets angry when I throw vegetable waste into the bush beside our deck (you can’t see a trace of it for the undergrowth) - she would rather send it off to landfill 😩😂 - another more significant example: nobody I hang out with seems to think that American factory farms are a problem - I think I need to find new friends

      It's really crazy how many people are just completely oblivious to all these things, even despite having people in their lives telling them about them. I face that with many acquaintances. Most people just don't care, unfortunately.

      I don't think you need to find new friends you just need to show them irrefutable evidence, this isn't a battle won in miles it's an uphill battle that's won inches at a time. Even though we have dug a seemingly insurmountable hole to crawl out of no major victory is likely. It will take a million minor victory one inch at a time.

      If you have a shed in the garden with a gap behind it where nothing much goes on, you could utilise that for your scraps.
      In my garden, I have a row of large plant pots hidden behind my two sheds, and every day I take all the scraps, tissues and household compostables there, dump them in one of the pots until it's full, top it with a handful of leaves, and let it rot down.
      These pots are out of sight, don't let the kitchen scraps sprawl in a traditional looking heap (so offensive in the eyes of the many Westerners who have been successfully 'sanitized' against such things as composting), and this will eventually produce compost which you can either empty in a barrow - or do what I do and hoick the pot out into the daylight to be planted up.
      Then, next time your wife is concerned about you saving kitchen scraps from landfill, you can nudge that pot with your toe and tell her that all the lovely courgettes it's now producing came from last year's potato peelings and cabbage leaves.

    Wow! His talents, skills and knowledge is way too much! What a gift to humanity! He can teach us all how to thrive well and not just survive. “If you’re surviving then you’re struggling.” I have to change that in my head to stay away from struggle. I guess the right thing to say is “I am doing well.” The game of the mind that we experience. It starts with a thought then materialize in reality. Thank you for sharing this! Your video came across to me yesterday and I love it! I live in a subdivision with a Homeowners Association but I planted many dwarf trees last year in our backyard. I also planted grapes and mulberry in our front garden and some in big pots which I hope help us eat healthier and not depend on grocery stores. I planted herbs years ago to help with my depression because I don’t want to be dependent on prescription medicine for life. Your videos helped me to get excited to plan what to plant in my garden. You are a blessing! ❤️🙏

    What's so crazy to me is that this _isn't_ the norm. And I can't think of any legitimate reason why it couldn't be the norm. That it isn't is obviously a product of various things, not the least of which is the capitalistic driving forces in our western societies.

    • @ninemoonplanet
      @ninemoonplanet ปีที่แล้ว +10

      There's a change growing about "refurbishing", currently I know of people taking clothes with damage and remaking them into "newer" things.
      Sewing machines were hard to get, may still be, but it's one of the worst contributors of garbage waste. Plus the pandemic showed people they didn't need to go out, but work with what they had.
      Permaculture, agro-forestry, diversified crops are all growing (pun intended) ways of life.

    • @limitisillusion7
      @limitisillusion7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Well this guy is on a different level. Realistically, you don't need to be a true Jack of all trades like Pierre. Everyone needs to know how to farm sustainably. But you don't need everyone to have a shop that can manufacture everything. Specialization is okay, but the problem arises when you put too much distance between all the specialization, in addition to a dependence on unsustainable energy sources. We don't all need a full shop and CAD experience. We just need evenly distribute all the skills so they are available in close proximity everywhere.

    • @4thbrooker
      @4thbrooker ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@limitisillusion7 I agree totally. I wasn't referring to his ability to manufacture anything and everything.

    • @CanadianPermacultureLegacy
      @CanadianPermacultureLegacy  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think 4thBrooker means just the general thought process, then actions aligning with it. For example, just thinking about the imbued energy hidden in the things we buy and the waste we generate. Making conscious choices to minimize these things and provide as much as we can for ourselves, and tapping into waste streams to give things second lives. That should be taught in school.

    • @4thbrooker
      @4thbrooker ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@CanadianPermacultureLegacy Yes! And the whole mentality of taking into consideration the _true_ cost of the things we take for granted in our lives. We think about everything in terms of monetary cost, when, in a sane reality, we would take into account the cost our actions and the things we use have on the environment as a whole.

      Haha! That shirt is so Pierre. Using something until it literally cannot be used any longer. I'm the same way LOL.
      That shirt is a perfect example of his methodology and lifestyle design, and I love it.

    That was inspiring, everything from Pierre's outlook to little designs that really take his work to another level(such as the double pivot wheels (20:30) to change the rabbit hutch from sitting to rolling). I really hope someone comes in as an apprentice under him and from that last little bit it seems like he really wants that too. Do you have a patreon or somewhere you might post more of the 4 hours of footage?

      A lot of the cut footage unfortunately was cut due to wind noise and it isn't really useful. I will instead maybe visit him more often.

    Très beau vidéo! Je peux comprendre comment Pierre est un modèle de résilience! Bravo! J'aimerais beaucoup visiter le site un jour mais je peux comprendre la volonté de rester privé. | Beautiful video! I can undserstand how Pierre is a model of resilience! Bravo!
