The most amazing thing about here is that she had never acted a day in her life when she got this role. Not in t.v., not in plays, nothing. And she's so naturally talented that she landed the lead female role on one of the most famous television shows in history.
@Ruthy Ruth she is brilliant, maybe the character Kate can be annoying to your mother because she changes her ideas every 2 seconds. One episode she loves Sawyer and the other episode Jack😂😂
I give it to actors. I could never do that, it's just so embarrassing to go through all of the emotions--that are foreign to you personally because they're the character's--in front of a room full of people who judge it. You have to be really sure of yourself to do that. She nailed it by the way...
Yup totally agree. Having to access all the parts of the human psyche a majority of people never want to go to, or try not to. I always get pissed when someone comes around saying how easy acting is, just 'walking and talking'...because there are a lot of people that think that. And it's just not true. Clearly those people have never acted in front of anyone ever. Like with any skilled/talented people: if what they're doing looks so easy and accessible, then they're the professionals.
The good ones can at least tap into emotions one some level. The great ones...they tell you with their eyes, a tilt of their head, a wave of the hand, a slight grimace before they speak...the subtle inflections in their voice, the tone...the hesitation. The great ones...like Anthony Hopkins, like Gary Oldman, Helen Mirren, Frances McDormand, Robert Duvall, Gene Hackman...they conjure a whole being in front of the camera...the movement, the delivery, the voice, the gait, the posture, the cadence...all of it.
I just got into LOST and I think Evangeline Lilly is one of the greatest actrresses Ive ever had the pleasure of watching. She's so incredible and amazingly beautiful.
For someone who was an Airline attendant for Air Canada, she is truly an amazing person. First time as an actress, she sure knows how to work it. Watching her facial expressions and body language, which normally takes people a long time address.
For having no acting exprerience EL range of emotions are amazing. She has skills! I am quite impressed. She is so much better than what the writers gave her on the LOST series.. Wow! I'm seriously impressed by her natural instincts in this audition tape.
thats kind of bible of acting art for upcoming actors, ability to change within seconds from one person to another with emotions which are sometimes even more realistic than in daily life..
Wow, this just further confirms that you should never give up your dreams. Remember, Evangeline Lilly had had veeery small roles prior to lost, and now she's a big star in this hit tv show.
I think that was fantastic. Without any other actors besides the reader, in that tiny barren little room, Evangline created so much tension, so much pain. I think it was fabulous.
It's a good thing they do auditions! I think they realized she couldn't be a LEAD and rewrote the pilot to keep Jack alive. LOST would not be LOST without Jack.
+John Andrew i saw in an interview or behind the scenes type thing that they actually were going to give the role of jack to someone else but they declined and when they brought in matthew fox they just liked him so much that they re-wrote the script to keep him as a main character. there was a lot of re-writes after the auditions. they created characters, changed some around just because they loved the actors so much.
Casting can be hard. They tried Charlie and Hurley for the role of Sawyer. Everyone, in the end, ended up being who they should have been. Jack, would not be Jack, without Fox. Still my favorite show of all time. Sorry Walking Dead and Breaking Bad. You're close, but still behind.
as someone who has and is currently training in film acting for many years, I am soo puzzled as to how she learned to act without...learning how to act. Acting is not simply putting on facial expressions or saying lines in a certain emotion.. Apparently Lost was her first acting audition.
Well, if you really look at what Abrams is doing in the beginning he's breaking like the number one rule directors shouldn't do.. with an actress or actor and that's telling them what to think.. that's a big no in directing and feel you can't force someone to think a certain way otherwise the performance will be robotic. That's why Josh Holloway performance for sawyer was so good he totally got into the character he created him self in his mind without being told how to act. Yu can see the difference.
caseygirl23675 I may be mistaken but I do believe she was just 'discovered' in Canada by a modeling agency did some modeling and only a couple episodes of popular tv shows where her character didn't even have a name or lines and then she got cast in Lost (Lost was her fist speaking role)...so no I don't think she had any acting training but I think she was great...a true natural....the only people who refuse to see it are people who spend their lives learning the craft but never acquire the skill.
Looks like JJ was doing it properly: He was giving her a framework on how to approach the internal processing of the character. He was telling her how her character thinks more so than what she should be thinking. It is true that you can't tell someone to express a certain emotion (eg: look surprised! look happy! look angry!) or you'll get a pre-packaged stage expression. A director can emphasize the motivation to allow the actor to let go with real emotion - so instead of telling them, say, to be angry, he could say: Look, that person did this to you. Imagine what that would feel like and then (take out that emotion on this prop / use it to underline these next 2 lines of yours / insert additional direction here). etc, etc.
standing behind him, very much alive. When he is asked by Jack how such a thing is possible, Christian simply reminds Jack that he is also dead. In fact, Jack had died from his stab wound in the "island present" time line after restoring the light in the cavern.
I know, I am terribly jealous of her. I have been doing theatre and on camera acting classes and workshops for a few years and I would love to get my foot in the door like she did. She has the talent but she definitely lucked out with getting the opportunity .
I think she was great as Kate but I also think it was the whole cast that made the series what it was. I find it amazing that I had never heard of most of the actors before yet their chemistry together was amazing
@AssaultRiflesBeCheap they were talking about the Pilot episode when saying "thank god jack didn't die." Evangeline was auditioning with a scene that was originally the post "Jack dying" scene, which ended up being changed to the pilot dying instead. If you ask me, it looks like SOMEONE DIDN'T WATCH THE DVD EXTRAS FROM SEASON ONEEEEEE. ;)
it was originally written that jack would die in the pilot episode and that kate would be the main character. Matt Fox is auditioning for the role as Sawyer in his audition film.
wow, im really glad that they chose him to play jack and that they didnt kill him off the show. him and his character are definitely one of the main reasons why i love the show so much
You can really hear her Canadian accent at the beginning. She does a good job hiding it in the show. I didn't even know she was Canadian until I looked it up a few years ago!
From Michael Keaton's IMDb entry: "He was originally to play the role of Dr. Jack Shephard in the TV show "Lost" (2004), with the understanding that the character would be killed off early on in the show. Keaton later had to walk away from the part when the creators decided not to kill off the doctor. Matthew Fox ended up playing the character."
I enjoy Evangeline Lilly's work and whenever I mention her, my friends are like, "Who's that?" She should be more credited for all her great work and talent.
What I like themost on her is that she's so beautifull and at same she looks like that girl around the corner, someone we can find at our neighbourhood. So natural.
From this, we can only assume that the "flash sideways" time line is our characters' afterlife, or possibly a "waiting room" of sorts before moving onto their afterlife. Notice that not all of the Lost characters were present in the church reunion that happened at the end of the show. These characters, like Jack, valued the time they spent on the island as the most important time of their lives.
@thebirdisblue They got negative feedback when they asked people to read the script for the pilot. So they re-wrote Kate and Jack, and then wrote in Rose to be what Kate was supposed to have been.
word of advice: don't watch any youtube videos that is 'lost' oriented until you finish all 6 seasons. if you do, don't read the comments. i just got through watching all 6 season yesterday for the first time -- what an amazing journey! one of the best tv shows i've seen.
It's easy to tell she's pretty green. Very good for one of the first auditions she's ever had. I would love to see EM's audition for Juliet. I heard she did it totally different than they were expecting. She basically created the character during her audition.
The most amazing thing about here is that she had never acted a day in her life when she got this role. Not in t.v., not in plays, nothing. And she's so naturally talented that she landed the lead female role on one of the most famous television shows in history.
And Josh had never acted before either, and the two made a perfect couple! I've never seen so much chemistry on TV!
@@karenespindola7while she was dating Charlie irl
WHAT?? that's crazy
Shes so beautiful and talented,am so glad they chose her she was awesome in lost!
@Ruthy Ruth she is brilliant, maybe the character Kate can be annoying to your mother because she changes her ideas every 2 seconds. One episode she loves Sawyer and the other episode Jack😂😂
She is so naturally beautiful! I read that this was her first speaking role, but man she nailed it. She's so talented and attractive!
Auditions are the scariest most awkward experiences I've ever had.
MLOB96 agree
she would play a good Lara Croft
Would have...she's a little past that stage now.
@@victorpradha9946 mmmmm idk about that Daisy Ridley I think
Nah too small is height and other things...
Yassssssss

lol true dat, I'd never thought it was so hard
I could have done it 10x better then her.
That's a man, look at it's shoulders

Oh my god. She's so awesome.
Dammit Freckles
It would've been stupid if Jack got killed off that early, glad they changed it
ikantspelgud1 it would've been. The show started with him and not 30 minutes in you kill him, that would ruin the show. Glad they didn't though.
You have to spoil dont you?!!!!!

She's absolutely brilliant!

Lol OMG I thought that this audition was of a scene later in the series and jack died!! I got so sad!!😢
Hang on I was just reading the other comments....... Does jack die??????
+Ellie Adams Yes. In original teleplay, Jack was suppose to be killed by the smoke monster in the cockpit of the plane, instead, the pilot died.

Are you still an actress? We need an update. And yes, she was an absolute natural.
I love her... She is one excellent actress!!!
she's a grat actriss, is my favourite in LOST
So were they gonna kill off jack originally?
Yeah, they were.
I would've been so happy if Jack would've died.In my opinion after season 1 and about half of season 2 or more he became so annoying.
yes
I would rather have jack die than Charlie
In the pilot
thank you very much, for share this videos, it are awesome!

yeah he was supposed to die the first episode. It's cool how they made characters based on the actors rather than having it all premade for them
she's so beautiful!

Kate does a great Evangeline Lilly

wow, great audition
