The Pirate Code idea is so clever. I was thinking of dress codes, math, military codes, and law. For Path, I have books on travel and trade. I interpreted Shot as a photograph or a movie shot, so I have books on fashion photography and biographies of movie stars as possibilities. I struggled with Join, but I thought it could mean joining around a table, joining a movement, a team, or festivities.
Happy November, Andrea! 😊 I have only one non/fiction in my TBR at the moment, it’s the account of how a movie called THE DIRTY DOZEN was made in 1967. The PATH of that achievement is certainly the focus of the book, but what about the CODE, SHOT (camera shot?) and JOIN. Think I can squeeze those out of this book?
It's fun to answer the questions and prompts at least! Every year for both Victober and Nonfiction November I end up going off-script when it actually starts. Oh well!
Well, pirates are non-fiction, tech-nic-al-ly . . . you seem to have got your Nonfiction November cake that you can also eat, sort of thing! I'm already reading (after my Victober Anthony Trollope one) a big fat non-fiction titled The Dawn Of Everything by David Graeber and David Wengerow. I'm past the halfway and really enjoying it. Learning is an endless river, especially with those anthropologists and archaeologists digging around and discovering amazing artifacts and all. And they have proof that the really old cities had NO king, queen, emperor or aristocracy, but were alarmingly egalitarian. Yay . . .
You always seem to find the biggest books. I don't know if you're a traveller or conference person but there's a Milton Seminar coming up next May (2025) in Toronto. I'm not sure if they'll have zoom recordings for far away but maybe they will I don't know. crrs.ca/crrsevents/milton2025/
Code: either The Philadelphia Chromosome or The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (both deal with DNA); Path: either Know My Name or Stairway to Justice (both are a person’s path through the justice system); Shot: either And A Bottle of Rum or American Sniper (I feel these are obvious); and finally for Join: either The More of Less or Blackout because both are movements encouraging the reader to join.
I've already just started Ghost Empire by RIchard Fidler, which would do for Path. It goes SO well as a fiction/nonfiction pairing with Sailing to Sarantium by Guy Gavriel Kay; I highly recommend the pairing. Readathons aren't for me, I need to just read whatever I read. But if Code Dependent: Living in the Shadow of AI would FINALLY arrive in my library which I've had on order there *forever*, then November would be a great time to read it!
Yeah, I end up reading what I want eventually too :) but it's always fun to answer the questions. The AI book sounds really good. I haven't read any Kay, maybe I'll give it a go
Non-fiction is mainly what I read. I don't really follow the tags, but here's a few of my books that would fit. For "code" I have The Color of Law by Richard Rothstein. For "path" I think Stealing from the Saracens by Diana Darke (which I'm currently reading) would fit in that I'd love to journey to the places and see the architectural wonders she talks about. For "shot" I think of War: The Lethal Custom by Gwynne Dyer (I want to reread). For "join" I'd like to get around to reading Communities of Resistance: Writings on Black Struggles for Socialism by Ambalavaner Sivanandan :)
your reading sounds as impressive as ever! every time i try to read non fiction it ends up discarded under my bed so i think im going to stop trying lol
that's fair! I sometimes save nonfiction for audiobooks while I'm walking or doing things because it just feels like having a podcast in the background.
I really want to read the new book about ciphers from the Elizabethan age to the Restoration by Langman/Akkerman but I'm not sure. I have 'Booth' by Karen Fowler which would be okay for the shot challenge.
@InfiniteText i have one of his books still probably around that time, it's an a to z book and each letter is about a person that starts with that time and how they died, hah. 😅

Such interesting choices!
Lost is my favorite show! No wonder I love your taste in books. I'm on my third rewatch of it because there isn't anything I like as much. 😅
Lost is the best! I know I got so into the characters and the magic of the island too

Interesting choices - I've never done non-fiction November but may try and work something in

Oh these sound like fun choices! Also very serious topics at the same time

These sound great but also very serious topics too. I think when the topic is too heavy it hits a little differently, but it's so memorable.

I am actually adding the Elizabethean ciphers book to my TBR it sounds really cool. Thank you!
@@InfiniteText I caved and bought it!
I've always liked Edward Gorey, but honestly never thought about Iif he was alive or dead 😅
well..he is now. :) sorry to deliver the news, though I guess it's been 24 years since...almost 1/4 of a century
