Andrea, you underestimate the escape factor of your channel and that many of us subscribers need to hear about the prettiest books in your collection or the fantasy evocations you get from things like pirate books and other flights of fancy you take. We don’t need RELEVANCE, we want to escape with you into YOUR world and its books. Your channel does not need “fixing.” Just keep it soft and cozy and take us to the refuges you yourself are finding in the books you are reading and collecting. We want to be on Andrea Island 🏝️! Maybe you could start a group read among your subscribers once in awhile and we can all get together via comments or live stream chat and have a bit of a cyber party. Just don’t give up you being you! ❤️
I'm not fixing it for the purpose of views, I'm just not sure the current way of filming is working for me. And I want it to be the kind of thing I would watch as well. Andreea Island sounds nice. I promise I'll still be me :)

I find myself turning to the same books that you speak of here. These, poetry, & surrealism have been so helpful for keeping myself stable, and for helping my heart to stay open in these awful, challenging times. I'll be turning 555 this year. Haha, that's a typo but I'm leaving it. I''ll be 55. Certainly it feels like I'm 555 because the world is on fire and the past few years I have been detaching more. I used to be riddled with anxiety. Paralyzed into a perpetual panic. I don't have the power to change anything and I can't even help myself in that state. So I've done some healing and am returning to the introspective and creative person I was in childhood. I've turned most of my property into a pollinator garden and love studying the animals and plants that thrive there. During the colder months I have returned to writing, to the love of creating stories. I don't care if anyone ever reads them. I am focused on Being instead of production. So I love what you said about escapism and magic. We all need that. I think it is healing and who knows? Perhaps a movement of healed and creative people can make the world a better place someday. I will love your vlogs. I'm always interested in interesting people who nerd out.
555 is still young! Oh man...a pollinator garden is my ultimate fantasy. As a milennial in Canada, I think I'm closer to Neverland than I am to a property with a garden. That's so wonderful, you life sounds like my aspiration. That's all I want. I think you need to start a vlog channel, I would watch it very passionately.
I think the "would I watch my own videos" question is a bit misleading. For others, you are the cool person. When you talk about things you love and share your research, you are offering a window into your life. That said, your goals sound amazing! I'm looking forward to hearing about the Wizard of Oz. I have the vaguest memory of the difference between the book and movie, and it will be fun to hear your takes :)

your new video ideas sound great and i feel the same way as you do about booktube-ish things, i just dont enjoy them anymore. i lost motivation to make videos again because i just couldnt be bothered sitting down and talking about a book, its not what i watch most of the time either. im sure youll have a great year ✨

If a soldier is imprisoned by the enemy, don't we consider it his duty to escape?... If we value the freedom of mind and soul, if we are partisans of liberty, then its our plain duty to escape, and to take as many people with us as we can. " I wish you well as you move forward and immerse yourself more fully in the world of imagination.

It does seem like that when booktubers try to read to stay relevant or stay on top of challenges they seem burnt out. I even hate the phrase "reading slump". As if that's abnormal or wrong to not feel like picking up a book. We all have a million other things and interests going on in our lives. I feel like youtube in general should be a space to embrace all your hobbies and interests. It's a place for all those weird kids in school (myself included lol) to shine! It's sad when people feel the desire to conform. Like one of my favorite booktube channels is an older man who uploads videos that are less than 5 minutes reviewing a book. No ring light or fancy camera. I think it's because it's what he wants to put out vs. what's going to move the algorithm. He's not demanding a large portion of my time to increase his stats. Authenticity is tops! My goal for 2024 is to continue to discover books and new interests on my own instead of it always being spoon-fed to me by the internet.
