I’m a highly skilled tech at a dealership with 30+ years experience and I can attest that this tool is awesome and does what most high dollar scanners do at a tiny fraction of the cost and no need to pay high dollar every year for a subscription.
Luv my OBD Link MX+ it Works Great as a Scan Tool On my Ram 2500 4/4 HEMI' Also has Enhanced Diagnostics for Ram Trucks One of the main reasons I got it because it shows Live Transmission Temperature on its Original App as well as many other live gauges. By Far the Best Bluetooth Scanner an Updates an the original app is Totally Free an works Great!" Definitely worth Every Penny For this Bluetooth Scanner!"
Great tool if you don't run a tuner with display capabilities. I highly recommend monitoring EGT instead of a speed gauge. Especially for those of us who tow heavy. Overheating the turbo on long hill climbs is not healthy for your engine or your wallet! 😁
Jerry. I have a Chevy 2500hd 2018 model year and have all of the temperature information available in the dashboard display. All of the temperatures are available.
OBDLink MX+ 🙂 On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) instead of ODB I don't have enough Bluetooth connections on my phone (only two) for all of my devices, so I'm thinking about using an old phone that I don't have cell service for and dedicating it to realtime information.
Great video! I have seen others but they were more expensive and did less. I also have the 6.7L PowerStroke in my tow vehicle so I’ll be interested in your experience with this.
Works great on the fleet of 6.7’s I work on with the ForScan software available in the App Store for $7. Cylinder contribution and rail pressure tests, ash accumulation, DOC and SCR resets etc. great tool for the money. Best $140 I ever spent.
Still using on every trip. Great as a gauge monitor. Dealer recently flashed the computer and it deleted my Viper remote start. Will be getting Forscan to reset.
Great video as always. I bought this for my 2017 F350 after watching the video but I can't find a gauge for transmission temperature, can you tell me how you found it?
Hi Donald. Go to the Dashboard in the ODBLink. At the bottom left, tap the 3 vertical dots. Click Add Display. Pick a display such as Radial Display then one of the Built-in styles. Mine defaults to vehicle speed under Item. Touch vehicle speed, in field at the top type temp. It’s a long list. My list shows Transmission Fluid Temperature (C, F). Hope that helps.
Hi Steven. I’ve been thru more phone and tablet mounts than I care to mention. These have held up well and are reasonably priced. I have them listed on our RV Accessories page under RV General Accessories. Here’s a link ilovervlife.com/rv-accessories/
Thanks for the great video! I have a 2017 Ford F-250 6.7L diesel and tried looking up normal temp ranges for it and can't seem to find anything. A lot of choices pop up, but nothing really specific. Can you or someone else recommend a web sight?
Hi Jack. I follow this forum. I used these posted by Rusty Axlerod www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1242294-what-is-normal-coolant-temp-range-plus-a-few-other-qs.html
Question for you about this , I bought today cause I’m gonna be using this on my electric Mustang, and I know all the electric Mustang guys say this is the best one. My question is, this one you can leave plugged in from what I understand. It won’t kill your battery, but I was looking at their Quickstart guide online when you install this, you didn’t start the vehicle correct you just turn the vehicle on, the accessory mode? But since you can leave this plugged in all the time, I’m assuming after you set it up, it doesn’t matter if you start the car and do a scan and if you have a code at the same time, I guess you could clear that code as well with the car running just some thoughts please thank you.
I can’t speak to the way the EVs work, but I haven’t had an issue with our diesel F350. Codes have been rare. I use our more for monitoring the engine and transmission when towing.
@@iLoveRVlife I was just asking when you first set it up did you start the vehicle or do you just turn it on without starting it? I’m assuming you can leave it plugged in and it doesn’t drain the battery from what I understand if you make sure you close out the session when you do a scan
Hi Darryl. This is a 2014 LX. Has around 55,000 miles. I’d say around 90% tow. This is the only vehicle we take on our trips, so we use it to tour around from the campground.
Yes if it's in the OBD datastream for your vehicle. My list was extensive and will probably change a few times till I get the display the way I like it.
@@iLoveRVlife - Do you mean find the Display for Transmission Fluid Temperature and add that - because there only 2 Display options containing "Transmission" and neither are about temperature. OR - Do you mean there is a file i can download which contains the PID for my Vehicle - if so, can you tell me how to find and download it? Sorry to be a nuisance.
Shame on Ford for not using the technology in their HD, SD trucks. My Ram has all these built in, controls on my left steering wheel, and viewed in my guages centered in front of the driver's seat. In my home state you cannot have a phone in your hand for any reason while driving. Hands free bluetooth for cals... Any truck used to tow large or heavy should have these to monitor easily, imo. Hardest part is learning your trucks normal and limits in various conditions. Good that aftermarket stepped in for your truck and others.
True John. The more expensive Fords have a larger gauge package. This is a basic LX model. Plus, I wanted to monitor the turbo heat too. Always hear good things about The diesel Rams.
There’s a step where you register the MX. Once that’s done, you’ll have an option to download the specific PIDs for this model. It will read your VIN and give you the extra items for you model. Once done, you can go into each PID category and search for transmission temperature.
I haven’t tried but their web site states “OBDLink MX+ works with all 1996 & newer model year cars and light trucks sold in the U.S., including all American, European, and Asian vehicles. Live outside the U.S.? Most newer non-U.S. vehicles are compliant with the OBD-II standards.”
I bought this and finally got it hooked up to my phone and when I bring it up there are not any 3 little dots on the bottom left on my phone like there was on your phone so I don't have any way to add what I want. Do you have a phone number that I can contact some tech support to get some help
I installed one a few weeks ago and my 2020 F250 7.3 is going mad. As soon as I plug it into my OBD plug my computer systems start shutting down. First my front camera, steering assist, navigation system, and all other systems. I received may warning lights. I removed from the plug and my truck is still having the same issues. Any help??
Maybe something at fault with the unit. Any bent pins? Did you ever get to a point where you could get a firmware upgrade for the unit? That was the first thing that happened once the unit was registered. I also did a search on Amazon to see if other had issues with the 7.3 and none were reported. I'd return and try a second unit if you still want the features.
@@iLoveRVlife Thanks for the reply. I'm working with the company now. They want to send me a new unit. I can't try again until I get the truck back from the service department.
I haven't tried. It would have to load the profiles for each vehicles codes. Would have to try to see if it would store both, or need to reload when going from vehicle to vehicle.

Jacob, we continue to have good success with our MX+.
How? I have a ram I need help doing that.
Thanks Jerry. What will they think of next. I work in IT, but technology continues to amaze me.
Thanks Jim Bo. I love this stuff. Even more so when it works!
Great video! So worth the $100. Thanks!

Thanks a James. Great tip. Still setting the desired gauges. Speed was a filler, but I’m going to replace with EGT.
Another great video! Thanks.
Thanks a bunch Rebecca.
Jerry. I have a Chevy 2500hd 2018 model year and have all of the temperature information available in the dashboard display. All of the temperatures are available.
Mine is a basic LX. I have engine temp and oil pressure no transmission. The other benefit is reading engine codes.
I had an old scangauge. It worked great, but you have research and program all the codes by hand to get info like transmission temp.
Jim Bo, this was super simple, especially with the smart phone.
OBDLink MX+ 🙂

Nice, I might look into it
Thanks
Great info! Thanks!

Thanks Richard. Maybe something like this 20 pin BMW to OBD adapter amzn.to/2ODhYrI You’d have to test this with that engine.
I use a similar tool/app. You may want to monitor your turbo temp.

Why can't I find "transmission temperature" for my 16' Subaru Forester?
One thing that helps is downloading the extra profiles after the device is registered.
Ever got the transmission temperature?
ODB or OBD? It's OBDLink MX+. .. Tongue twister. Great vid.
That it is.
I wasn’t able to read my ram 1500 transmission temp with OBDLinkMX+. Any idea why?
The codes can be confusing. One thing is to download the extended profile. Sometimes this has other codes that may be helpful.

do they make this for a class A rv?
Works with the Ford V10 gas engines. Would have to research the diesel.
