Another great follow up! To the person who was wondering the true cost of the bags, I have seen an artisan leather smith of 20 years produce a birkin dupe and sell it for $100. Keep in mind he is also making a profit!
Sure, but I would be careful implying that anyone could make a living off those numbers. I'm not sure how many hours it took him to produce the bag, but if we're saying the general time of 18 hours for a "standard" birkin, before even taking into account cost of materials, he would be making $5.55 an hour, which is not anywhere near a living wage. Assuming the cost of the leather, metal pieces, etc is low, let's say, 20 bucks, that's more like 4.44 per hour. I'm all for knowing the actual value of materials and the markup, but also as an artist I think it's important to highlight the worth of the artisan's labor.

@@SuperDacob you are absolutely right!! Mindset and goals in the experience overall, means everything. And that the SA's can probably smell the desperation lol. I've heard of the unicorn people that were able to buy a Birkin with no problem, and that's great if that was their goal. I agree with you 100%. I love your honesty and openness on this. I do like some Hermès items, but I will never play the H game. To each its own, but I personally think the desperation that I see some of these people show in order to be offered a birkin, kelly or Constance in store is sad. Ended up going the resell market for my first kelly and birkin this past year.
i 100% disagree with the comment saying „look rich and you will be treated rich“. i think people that „look rich“ aren’t necessarily the people that really have tons of money. a billionaire, who really has money, doesnt care anymore often and spending their days in sweatpants. so even if you look like earning 25k a year doesnt mean you dont have money. and the hermes employees also know that.
"Exotics - ain't gonna happen." Same, Dacob, same 😊. Btw, I, too love Hermès (I mean "the other stuff", like their SLGs, Twillys, and so on) - and I like the Kelly, even before I knew it was called a Kelly at this time (I think I was about 10 years old and saw a picture of Grace Kelly with that bag 😉). The Birkin I DON'T like, it is not structured enough for me, and I hate how people wear it (with the flap inside the bag - it looks like the flap has been ripped off 😖!)
Yeah, the Birkin... I feel, in order to be appreciated, one needs to love how bohemian it actually is. One needs to let it go and allow it to soften its shape and to lose the boxiness. Only when really used does the Birkin start looking good to me. The Kelly, on the other hand, is the boxy one that looks great when stiff as a rock. Haha
@@SuperDacob Yes, I think you're right about that 😊! All my bags are pretty structured, I simply don't like the "slouchy" look with my bags - so I would prefer the Kelly Sellier, not the Retourne. But in general, getting a Birkin or Kelly just because of prestige / image / showing off, if you don't like (more or less) anything else from the brand - that I don't get. And it was mentioned before, Hermès is not the only brand which does handmade pieces - Delvaux and Moynat already have been named, I would add Valextra (an Italian brand) to these; very nice quality, too! So if someone wants to have good quality, but doesn't want to play the Hermès "Game" ("Journey" really is a strange word, I'd be interested who came up with this first 😅!) - these brands do have heritage, and they make great quality bags 🤗!
I also wonder who came up with the journey name for the Hermes spending spree. LOL! Maybe it was a customer or maybe... just maybe, it could have been the marketing team itself... but of course, all this is just speculation. haha.
CHANEL is a fashion house. Their ready to wear, and haute couture lines are desirable . You are right. You come in the store, you got the money, the item is available, they sell it to you. (it doesn't mean you will be able to find inventory at your local boutique, when they are out, it is because they are really sold out.,
And sometimes they just don't have all pieces because the specific boutique you go to might just not have ordered the piece you are looking for. Usually only 31 Rue Cambon orders the entire collection but other boutiques select only some pieces from each collection because they are either smaller boutiques or because they get allocated smaller buying budgets and have to buy wisely.
The artificial scarcity is a real bought into epidemic 🤦🏻♀️. So many have been trapped into believing, these manufactured items are rare, it’s a business model that works though. Making consumers believe something is hard to get, find and afford has been adopted by each of the luxury houses. I love Chanel very much, but they do raffles too (at least in department store boutiques) for popular items. This was a great video Dacob!
I saw the beautiful neck piece and said yep, people will be read today😂. I'm just waiting for 21A to hit stores so I can see what Clutches I can buy :) Thanks for your input as always Darling.
You are as always so right about Hermes.35/40 years ago if you went into an Hermes you would only see people of a certain age from bourgeois parts of town Chelsea, upper east side,Hancock park various arrondisment ( depending on your city) and absolutely no one under 40.🖤🖤
How is it a journey?? Clever marketing more like! I’d never refer to my relationship with my supermarket as a journey. Im not grateful for my supermarket to accept me as a customer. I don’t class my self as lucky that they allow me to buy my milk & bread from them. Nor do I regard anyone at my supermarket as a ‘friend’ or have some relationship with them. Hermes have got some weird reverse phycology marketing going on & it obviously works. Why is Hermes different from every other retailer on the planet?? Because it clearly works thats why. The physical emotion of NOT getting something is far stronger than getting something. Its all about the cat & mouse. The more you dont get something the more you want something. The bags are only exclusive & in low volumes because they want it that way. Im sure they could knock out loads a bags if they wanted too like other brands.
I have more of a relationship with my local supermarket checkout guy. He is friendly, cool with me buying whatever, tells me about produce they will be getting on sale, been around for at least 10 years, genuinely wants to know how I am doing and what’s going on around town. Much better than the Hermes employees.
I truly believe that this “journey “ mentality that Hermès is trying to sell is a direct response to resellers walking in and buying a grail bag and reselling the next day on the preloved market. Hermès wants to make it difficult for resellers to acquire them and so they make it difficult for EVERYONE to acquire them. Somebody at the company just had to invent a strategy to counteract that and the “journey “ is how they chose to spin it. That psychology also makes it possible to get customers to buy other items in the store in order to earn the “privilege” of scoring a desirable bag. Of course I am not speaking about regular Hermès customers who are interested in the brand as a whole and are frequent shoppers. I might be interested in one of their bags if I could go in and have a normal shopping experience of looking at the merchandise, trying it on, choosing a color and asking the price. I don’t haggle and don’t expect a sale. I’m willing to pay for what I want. Their game, however, I will not play.
There is an entire community of people who purchase items from Hermes and then turn around and immediately resell them. Sometimes for a little less than retail. All that in an effort to build up a history to one day be offered a B or K.
Honestly, I love most of Hermes brand, jewellery, slippers, scarfs perfumes etc and don’t mind the journey at all. I usually like to bubble buy my designer items anyway so it’s cool with me. Although the journey is a bit annoying.
21:42 - so true !! I personally don't like the Hermes aesthetic and apart from rodéos 🤩 or kitchen items (only products from the brand I personally find whimsical and appealing), the rest does not grab my attention. I do want a personalized birkin 🤞(no K or C for me ❌) but only from the store because I want to have the full H experience 💝. However, I am not even embarking onto a Hermes journey because I don't find enough Hermes products I love to keep me going in that journey. I also refuse to buy things just for my birkin profile. The Birkin is still as part of my wishlist and I am not sure if it will ever be fulfilled but I have other brands until then 😉.
I’m sure one could make a psychological argument about being “accepted” or “making it’ when purchasing a luxury item but there are people who appreciate quality and workmanship whether it be in purchasing a home, car, clothing, jewelry, or even a tool for one’s workshop or utensil for the kitchen. The time, design and effort that goes into creating these pieces should be considered into the price. I am not speaking about or justifying Hermès or any particular brand but quality purchases across the board. Personally, I buy classic pieces in all categories and tend to keep them for many years. In the end, cost per wear/use makes it worth the price plus I love what is mine regardless of the price ( and I have the raggedy old, comfortable clothing to prove it.) I also have a Jones of New York blouse I bought in college and saved for weeks to buy (1969 on sale) that looks like the day I purchased it. I guess what I’m saying is buy what brings you joy because YOU like it NOT as blackmail to get something else and then don’t look back or listen to others. This is my first visit to your channel and it won’t be the last- very enjoyable, honest, and informative, a new subscriber from NJ, USA.
This is only 3rd video ive watched of yours, I'm over here happy with $400 Michael Kors🤣🤣 too rich for my blood..keep us the amazing entertaining videos
I refuse to dress up to an approval stamp from the cashiers of any store. I’m sorry, I’m thinking if you work at an Hermes store you probably can’t afford to shop at an Hermes store😂
Good point Dacob. 👍 Why would someone who earn a commission at Hermes has power over a customer? Why beg from someone who judges you? Go buy your some self -respect!!
I buy at Hermes whenever I think there is quality, the scarves for example. They will last my whole life. I could pick some edgy pieces (hard enough, as I am not into color or grandma design). People can walk into Hermes, spent tons of money and walk out with tasteless shit. Whatever...nice talk, appreciate this.
This is why I say if I had that kind of money, I'd just buy Chanel. At least with Chanel, I can buy what I want instead of basically playing Handbag Roulette.
It was so not easy to get my Chanel small black caviar with gold hardware. It took a very long time. I got it on Sunday in the boutique finally! I totally feel like it was a journey.😂
Let’s be honest people want a Birkin or a Kelly purely for the exclusivity of them! I look at them at think 🤷🏼♀️ don’t see what the fuss is about they’re a basic looking bag 💼 yes the leather maybe amazing blah, blah, blah but it I don’t look at them and think wow 🤩 that is stunning I just think 🤔 how many other things could I buy with that money that when I look at them I’m like 😍😍😍😍
I take a lot of your points about the insanity of the journey. But on the flip side I wonder what else is Hermès to do? -They can’t produce enough bags to fulfill demand -They could raise price to insane amounts to reduce the demand, but a lot of even very wealthy people won’t buy bags that are clearly priced far outside of their value (eg $20-30K for a Togo Birkin) -They could offer the bags first-come first-serve, which I suppose is most Democratic, but then their regular customers will often be left with nothing, since resellers who can devote all their time going to stores will get the most inventory. I see the “journey” more as a way to make sure they offer a limited amount of available bags to regular or valued customers… certainly not perfect. Anyone buying shit they don’t like just to score a BKC is wasting their money. Go online/preloved!
If you don’t like their RTW and Jewelry and fashion Jewelry it’s very difficult to get their BKC….if you like their other items then the bag would come eventually. For those who only after their bag can easily get one from resell market, why bother to go the store route
I'm going to film my Coach journey and my Michael Kors journey 🤣. Then I'm going to film my journey of the thousands of dollars I saved and my journey of actually having $ left over to put in my bag. 🤣 Lord how insane do you have to be to spend that amount of money on a purse. Yeah they got Berkins but when they are off camera they probably been eating chicken flavored Ramen Noodles for a year after buying a Hermes bag. As for me I will enjoy my Coach and Michael Kors bags with a filet mignon at a nice restaurant on occasion.
I’ll stick with my Teddy Blake’s and Senreve’s 😂 But seriously I have an Hermes belt, a few perfumes that I so love and a scarf(gift) and that’s it. I might get another belt in a different color but a hand bag? I think not…birkin & Kelly?maybe never :)
The magic word that made me think 🤔: Design. I would go further and say:innovation. Other brands seem to try to balance them with tradition. Hermès is not the only luxury traditional brand with lots and lots of history. Of course brands are entitled to their marketing strategies and we are free to say: No thank you.
Yes animal farm and 1984 those are the best and we are living them both 😳😂 are we sure that this brand not created by politicians ppl dont like to hear the truth 😳🤪 sounds the same strategy😝💕
There are at least 3 bags that I like more than the Birkin and the Kelly. Actually the Birkin is nice, but I don't like the Kelly at all, looks like a briefcase to me. 1. Jypsiere 2. Dilla Cavalleria 3. Constance (I am not sure if I got the names right...)
No its not. The 5 year warranty is for ALL bags purchased from April 2021 onwards and WOCs. The two CHANEL pouch bags I got in April and May both came with the 5 year warranty too. What you read on the website is referring to older bags that are no longer under warranty. CHANEL claims they can fix up your older bags too if they are the classics and in black leather, but that is a different service and it costs. xoxo
If I go to a store to buy shoes I don’t want to buy a wallet, scarfe, perfume, blankets, bracelets, necklace before I can get the shoes I need or want. That’s just ridiculous 🙄 a bag is no different. What a stupid game H is playing, I don’t wish to judge people but those who justify playing this game are just sad really. Also, I would never pay $10K for a $100 bag, however I would pay up 3-4K for a well made leather bag that will last me a lifetime.
Only thing i like with hermes is evelyn. Goes well with jeans. The rest is hard to use like i get more stressed than happiness using it specially the birkin not user friendly cant even place alot because it will deform the bag LOL nevermind.
Thats a good question sito M! It would appear that the mini is not included but to be sure I would ask your sales associate because I have not received confirmation either way on the mini WOCs... but I would love for them to be included...
The Birkin is quite impractical, too heavy. I feel the bag is for rich old ladies who are going from their car to somewhere so show off briefly so the weight of the bag is not much of an issue. The Kelly on the other hand, I really like when they are worn out in the original leather, not the pebbly look.
I prefer the Kelly too, for the fact alone that one has the option to add a strap as well. ;) but I prefer the look of the Birkin when it wears in and loses its shape. ;)
I agree with you in everything you say. But I think the bags are great investment, I thought I was convincing my self but this year I was in a terrible financial position so I had to sell many of my stuff and I got many of my money back + profit even after using them. Even more than my stocks ... chanel is included as much as I hated their sale increase each year it turnout to be beneficial for me , I also sold with profit. But the journey is so tiring it is not worth it. 😅 I shared your video with the cult 😂 I want them to face the truth.
love your Kelly choker! H had a new version on website in past months! FYI - hermes is a publicly traded company hence how LVMH (in part via Dior actually) tried to sneak in and actually got in trouble - the H family members joined forces with their shares of over 51% thus have control and majority stake, totally different than Chanel - Bernard Arnault of LVMH is the richest person with about 190 BILLION! you need to watch purseonfleek's video, titled, hermes made me cry - you will feel like you (well, her) went to coo-coo town! love ya babe! here is link, grab the popcorn! th-cam.com/video/slLU_qtgKKg/w-d-xo.html
Dacob how old are u? U look definitely no older than very, very early thirties like 30-31 ish and to be honest I thought more late twenties but then you said u had a job u needed boots 10-15 years ago and I’m like WHAT!
There is a giant problem here. Elephant in the room. The problem is resellers. They get the goods at Hermès and then buy loads of Kelly’s and Burkins. and resell for real profit. Rules on resellers are now starting in the USA. One rule is you can only buy one bag every three months. Hope this is true!
17:30 that's easy. To all these die hard H fans who tend belittle you and come after you once you even dare thinking about Hermès not beeing the Godsent shop (pun intended): would you rather buy a Hermès share or a LVMH share? Rest my case.
Chanel quality is not even close to Hermes the Hermes h slides are very desirable. Those two bags are alone put them ahead of Chanel. I own one Kelly 28 and a Hermes 30. I also have 3 Chanel 2 classics flaps and boy bag the boy bag is dead now what a waste of money
lol what type of job did you have that you needed cowboy boots in python leather :D haha. I can't look at bags as investments. I would rather invest in markets where majority will need the item and that item will grow in value overtime. Only a few people will have the ability AND DESIRE to drop 10-30k on a bag. Top 15% of earners are probably able to have enough disposable income to drop money on a bag, but I would argue a small percentage of the 15% have a desire to buy a 10-30k bag. Ok, off my soapbox now. :D
I will never play this game, this is so off putting!I like several things in Hermes but will not buy them because of this game! I can’t understand the people can call this Hermes recked a “journey”! This is just BS!Not for me!
LOL. We are talking about a bag, right? Made from the cut up skin of a dead cow? And people are looking to the ownership of some dead cow skin sack as validation of their worth as humans? Just wanted to say it out loud. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

LOL! Maybe it was a customer or maybe... just maybe, it could have been the marketing team itself... but of course, all this is just speculation. haha.
@@SuperDacob Haha, that would be hilarious 😂😂😂! Love this theory 😉💕!
I see new t shirt theme -“Never give up on Hermes journey” 😝 or who needs love when you have Hermes 🤪🤣 have a blessed day Dacob🙏💕
Haha! Good one!
“Girl, get an education” loved it to bits! 👏👏👏💖
Haha! Thank you Kristina!
@@SuperDacob you are welcome!🙏
I am really enjoying you and your way of thinking! ! If that is ok to say ;)
the necklace (beltlace?) is so intriguing and yet confusing to me lmao
A Kelly necklace is from 2009/10 and was designed by Gaultier when he was the AD at HERMES.
Thank you dear.
I saw the beautiful neck piece and said yep, people will be read today😂. I'm just waiting for 21A to hit stores so I can see what Clutches I can buy :) Thanks for your input as always Darling.
You are as always so right about Hermes.35/40 years ago if you went into an Hermes you would only see people of a certain age from bourgeois parts of town Chelsea, upper east side,Hancock park various arrondisment ( depending on your city) and absolutely no one under 40.🖤🖤
Yeah.. Hermes is in its own golden cage...
Great video Dacob, its important to talk about pros AND cons
Thank you Holly Grace dear!
Cheers dear! Its all in the style.
Love their scarves and capes.
For me Hermes is silk scarfs
Great video as always and agree with everything you said!
Thank you Funny Music.
Those bags are beautiful. The pívot in is horrible so the one with the perforated H
This is why I say if I had that kind of money, I'd just buy Chanel. At least with Chanel, I can buy what I want instead of basically playing Handbag Roulette.
True
It was so not easy to get my Chanel small black caviar with gold hardware. It took a very long time. I got it on Sunday in the boutique finally! I totally feel like it was a journey.😂
Let’s be honest people want a Birkin or a Kelly purely for the exclusivity of them! I look at them at think 🤷🏼♀️ don’t see what the fuss is about they’re a basic looking bag 💼 yes the leather maybe amazing blah, blah, blah but it I don’t look at them and think wow 🤩 that is stunning I just think 🤔 how many other things could I buy with that money that when I look at them I’m like 😍😍😍😍
you're awesome Dacob!
I do love this honest video. 🙏🏼 The “journey” is not for everyone. ©️©️have a waitlist like H too. I love both brands so I don’t mind. Im happy with what I have. Thanks for always sharing my love! ❤️😘😘😘Sandy
And actually Hermes sold Shang Xia at the end of 2020….so they no longer cater to the Chinese market, Shang Xia still does but not Hermes🤷🏻♀️
Herme-e-e-e-e-s drama, it is always a lot of fun haha
yep! Always it! LOL!
People ultimately like what is not good for them long term.
I take a lot of your points about the insanity of the journey. But on the flip side I wonder what else is Hermès to do?
-They can’t produce enough bags to fulfill demand
-They could raise price to insane amounts to reduce the demand, but a lot of even very wealthy people won’t buy bags that are clearly priced far outside of their value (eg $20-30K for a Togo Birkin)
-They could offer the bags first-come first-serve, which I suppose is most Democratic, but then their regular customers will often be left with nothing, since resellers who can devote all their time going to stores will get the most inventory.
I see the “journey” more as a way to make sure they offer a limited amount of available bags to regular or valued customers… certainly not perfect. Anyone buying shit they don’t like just to score a BKC is wasting their money. Go online/preloved!
Tell It like it is Dacob!
Thank you dear!
If you don’t like their RTW and Jewelry and fashion Jewelry it’s very difficult to get their BKC….if you like their other items then the bag would come eventually. For those who only after their bag can easily get one from resell market, why bother to go the store route
Golden cage. You nailed it
💖🌈🌅
I'm going to film my Coach journey and my Michael Kors journey 🤣. Then I'm going to film my journey of the thousands of dollars I saved and my journey of actually having $ left over to put in my bag. 🤣 Lord how insane do you have to be to spend that amount of money on a purse. Yeah they got Berkins but when they are off camera they probably been eating chicken flavored Ramen Noodles for a year after buying a Hermes bag. As for me I will enjoy my Coach and Michael Kors bags with a filet mignon at a nice restaurant on occasion.
THANKS FOR SHARING. YOUR A MIND OPENER TO BEGINNERS. CONGRATULATIONS..👍👍👍👍👍🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂.......
I’ll stick with my Teddy Blake’s and Senreve’s 😂
But seriously I have an Hermes belt, a few perfumes that I so love and a scarf(gift) and that’s it.
Very nice coverage
Yes animal farm and 1984 those are the best and we are living them both 😳😂 are we sure that this brand not created by politicians ppl dont like to hear the truth 😳🤪 sounds the same strategy😝💕
Thank you and yes... sounds very much like the same game! haha.
Im sure this man is a vampire. He’s super pale, super cute, obviously wealthy, smart, wise. Yeah you’re not fooling anyone son.
There are at least 3 bags that I like more than the Birkin and the Kelly.
Actually the Birkin is nice, but I don't like the Kelly at all, looks like a briefcase to me.
1. Jypsiere
2. Dilla Cavalleria
3. Constance
(I am not sure if I got the names right...)
The Chanel new warranty is only on classic black bags according to the website details.
Also, I would never pay $10K for a $100 bag, however I would pay up 3-4K for a well made leather bag that will last me a lifetime.
that one response re: "exotics" - gurl WHET kind of response....did she hear herself?
I love the Animal Farm
Only thing i like with hermes is evelyn. Goes well with jeans. The rest is hard to use like i get more stressed than happiness using it specially the birkin not user friendly cant even place alot because it will deform the bag LOL nevermind.
Jacob, is the chanel mini wallet on chain included on the five years warranty?
Thats a good question sito M! It would appear that the mini is not included but to be sure I would ask your sales associate because I have not received confirmation either way on the mini WOCs... but I would love for them to be included...
I hate those H sandals!
The Birkin is quite impractical, too heavy. I feel the bag is for rich old ladies who are going from their car to somewhere so show off briefly so the weight of the bag is not much of an issue. The Kelly on the other hand, I really like when they are worn out in the original leather, not the pebbly look.
I prefer the Kelly too, for the fact alone that one has the option to add a strap as well. ;) but I prefer the look of the Birkin when it wears in and loses its shape. ;)
@@SuperDacob you can probably handle the Birkin weight just fine.
Oh sure. I could handle the weight. That was not my issue at all. I just like the thought of the Kelly having also the option of a strap.
@@SuperDacob depending on who you are they make you a Birkin with additional straps not many have been made but there are a few unique ones
Yassss exposeeeee
I'm so glad you don't support exotic leathers. ❤️
I think the birkin is beautiful
Something I hate from Chanel is that they have bags make in Italy which quality is so inferior! Unacceptable for me.
Tarot cards!!!!!????? Had no idea!😃 💌
love your Kelly choker!
Once I was at that event and I saw Kelly, I saw Birkin. And wasn’t a fresh or modern look at all. It is not exclusive for sure.
If Hermes didn't have this stupid game people wouldn't buy from resellers. They can't complain.
The journey is Hermes draining your bank account😂🤑NO THANKS
This is just BS!Not for me!
your necklace 😂
LOL. We are talking about a bag, right? Made from the cut up skin of a dead cow?
And people are looking to the ownership of some dead cow skin sack as validation of their worth as humans?
Just wanted to say it out loud.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
What accent does he have?
Seriously, having a journey in getting a bag? Get a grip!
