Bravo! I completely agree. The "journey" is just so desperate. Also when you have to "build" a relationship with an SA & for them to have the final word if your the chosen one. Its pretty much low key discrimination in my opinion
So thirsty. Those people are completely desperate to fit in and probably dint have the money. Maybe for one but that’s it. Bizarre. I could buy ten at once if I wanted to, but if I have to be in a fvcking wishlist and NOT even get the bag I would like? I’m not a fool Hermes! Wow. I’m shocked!
@@McRambleOnwhere I live there’s a lot of eastern Asians working at Hermes’ but the demographic of shoppers here are also from there. I think they do hire based on who their clients are and try to have staff similar to their clients background
No one deserves to feel diminished for being denied the sale of something they could afford, just because an SA or brand felt they don't deserve it. While Hermès does reserve the right to sell to whoever they choose, a consumer also has the choice not to patronize such an elitist, classist establishment. You are worth MORE than a stupid bag. You don't have to grovel for it.
I’m totally with you Dacob! It’s not about the money, it’s the cringe factor. A lot of people just want it just because it’s unattainable, not because they truly love the design or functionality. A “journey” to getting shammed.
I think the status of it is why most people want the bag. Even if they love the design, the exclusivity would still be a big factor of why they love it. Even if it's just subconsciously.
Its odd to me. I do not no where spend the amount many spend. I mostly like shawls - and I have purchased a few under the radar bags. The SA I loved to visit and work with - she offered me a Birkin. I think the key was actually have a true genuine relationship with someone - I didn't even live in the city but when I went there for work I would usually stop by and buy things I genuinely loved. I have the pic of the Birkin - I was flattered but it is not for me. Not my thing. And perhaps that is why I was offered because I never really tried to manipulate a situation to get a bag. I dunno.
Totally cringe. And now I’m starting to think just how many Birkins and Kelly’s we see in tv celebs, TH-camr closets, are actually FAKE because it’s not possible they all can get hold of so many.
I just came across your channel and can’t stop watching - listening actually. I love how serious your tone is, my husband thought I was watching a scientific presentation. You speak like a professor, or a bishop, so theatrical, so entertaining!
Well said, Dacob! The idea of having to submit ourselves to this foolish game to be able to buy a bag is not elegant at all. I also believe that many people want to purchase those bags so they can show how "exclusive" or "special" they are.
Hermes simply doesn't like resellers. They are making people jump through hoops to demonstrate that they aren't resellers, that is, genuinely interested in the brand. I understand this, but I'm not an Hermes apologist.
It IS illegal, it's called linked selling. The problem is that no one has officially investigated Hermes. They are very careful with how they convey this to customers, so getting evidence for this would likely require cooperation by Hermes corporate.
In some countries it is illegal but this is why Hermes’ never really discloses it formally. They just say it’s “out of stock” and they’ll call you when it comes in. The heck it’s out of stock lmao. It’s there and once you spend enough they might consider offering one lol. It’s a joke. Countries where this is illegal should consider filing a class action lawsuit against them it’s getting out of hand
Those poor souls... hope they get bored soon so they can buy the bag they want second hand and be happy instead of waiting for someone else to deem them worthy
Lmao telling the King of Chanel he can’t afford a Birkin. This video made me laugh so hard. Especially with the other you tubers going on and on about going on their Hermès Journey. Like they’re reaching Enlightenment. And then the ones “I’m soooo shocked I was able to get one”. It’s so cringe.
and the fact that you hear so many romantic stories about how all they did was "buy a scarf and asked nicely" or didn't ask at all and was offered immediately. like they were divinely chosen lol. even the wasp-iest young women with generational wealth (people like to suggest they wouldnt put customers through hoops if they look a certain way, or have a certain socioeconomic class) had to buy a significant amount of crap over the years and flex their fashion knowledge to prove something to their SAs. I have heard the same person say "I got offered after I bought a few things like sandals." they have every shoe hermes makes and the houseware stuff. I mean both things can be true, they are well liked by a sales associate, but they did have to pay to play. the reality is more people had a prespend that is more than the bag. but they dont mention that. they just mention the "genuine connection" they had with an SA. how their first quota only took a few months. why are you "bonding" so much with an SA? unless it is a euphemism for buying whatever the SA suggests to you. and yes it is "nice" to be offered and shown around the boutique instead of ignored, but damn our customer service standards are a tripping hazard in hell if we think we are bonding or clicking well with an SA who shows us product we can buy or tries to help us instead of being icy, quietly guarding the product, or on their phone or whatever.
My experience was different in London last year. I was looking for a reversible belt and the SA asked if I was looking for anything else and I said no. He then asked if I was looking for any bags. I said not at this time but I was planning on going on holiday to Paris when I was 50 and would see if I could get a B25 or Kelly whilst there. He asked if he could help me with that instead. We had fun looking through the box of leather swatches, trying the bags to see which I preferred, etc.. Then he called me 3 months later with the exact combination I had talked about, gave me a few days to decide with no pressure, sent me videos and photos, shipped it to me with refund allowed if I changed my mind. I loved the whole experience and I adore my B25. I totally understand where you are coming from Dacob. But there are also some amazing Hermes SAs out there providing a fabulous service. Thanks for this video. 💕💕
Same here… was buying the H belt and was offered a bright orange B 35. I didn’t like the color and the size ( was too big on me)… and this 🍊, o my. Anyways, walked out with my H belt and letting him know that I only want something smaller and in more neutral colors. Called me in three weeks, gold togo B 30 is mine. Those stories just fascinate me… I had no history with H whatsoever before.
Yes, I also had a wonderful experience in London back to 2019. There are still some very nice SAs…. However now in my city, Chanel is now playing the same game as Hermes that you have to buy their RTW (or certain amount of money) in order to get a chance to buy their classic bags…
Love this. Hate the attitude of luxury brands sometimes. The prices are very high, they should be giving you a LUXURY experience, no matter what you want to buy; the luxury experience should includes excellent service, and making you feel great, not just give you a luxury product.
The Vegas sandwich!!! Thank you for such a refreshing and honest take on the topic. There is nothing luxurious about a "journey" of psychological mind games.
I totally agree with your opinion. I sold both my Birkin and Kelly because they were the least used bags in my collection and carrying them made me stressed rather than brought me joy. It is a very well executed high quality leather bag and the finishing is perfect. I do agree that the coating around the edges (specially visible on the Birkin) turns me off too for the price tag. I eventually kicked my ego and realised that i dont need those bags in my collection to feel successful. I discovered Moynat and love their high quality leather and craftmanship high standards much more.
Thank you Unboxing Luxury. Very well put. I also think the quality of Hermes bags is wonderful but the marketing is just sick and ultimately not healthy for the brand long term.
@@SuperDacob I dont know if it will hurt them long term. I live in Shanghai and there are long queues in H stores and you see the B bag frequently. The service is SO bad here that makes me sick. Think of it as Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman kind of bad 😅. My Chinese friends all know they have to spend spend to get a bag eventually because their SA told them directly 🤣 I dont know why as a customer we accept that kind of treatment and put a brand in a pedestal. All I hope is younger generations coming stop this nonsense and H has to find a real marketing strategy to sell their bags. I decided to jump out of the H journey train and appreciate other brands that deserve much love.
Shhhh, don't let the secret out about Moynat. 😁. The Hermes I own (Cinhetic bag and Odyssee buckle) are under the radar and I love them. That's why I love my Moynat Gabrielle, under the radar. AND Moynat was a woman!
my thing is, the journey is stupid. when you look outside Hermes, there’s SOOO many Kellys and Birkins, preloved and brand new. non-hermes resellers have shelves stocked with them yet the prices are still high. what that tells us is that there is a man-made bubble. this “exclusivity” that they achieved is fragile.
I own Chanel, Versace, and Coach bags. Those are three completely different brands. But I bought them because I love the bag itself, rather than buying the brand name behind them. And more importantly, rather than how much it cost. I feel like people thst get on this" " journey " is coping with an emotional need of being accepted. They want to feel "they made it". Thst they were worth enough of obtaining. This goes beyond fashion.
Agree with you there is no “material item” that is worth your self respect, buying a bag ANY bag is not a journey it’s baloney. Best wishes from Adelaide, South Australia 🇦🇺💐
I was in the Hermes Stockholm store and asked just to take a look at the Kelly they had on display. Just look. They did let me take a look at it but the sales person (I’m not using the word ”assistent” as there was no kind assistance involved) shook her curly head showing the bag and said veeery loud ”YOU CAN’T BUY IT”. Well honey, I know. It’s so amusing. That charade is so ridiculous!
That happened to Oprah (IKR?!) in Switzerland iirc. Suffice to say she Pretty-Womaned their a*ses, laughed it off and didn't buy anything...just casually told the story and let's say that I don't think the salesperson or even the store manager continued to work there anymore. They (barely) avoided cancellation cause this was 10 years ago, but this day and age they're skating dangerously close... ETA: I believe Oprah didn't make a big deal cause doesn't need a bs "journey", she's the f*cking destination
I wouldn’t go that far… I come from a developing country and I remember when I was a kid for many of my friends thinking to buy a Honda Civil car were their milestones, so I don’t judge people milestones. If that make you feel like you achieve something… Good for you! It’s you happiness. For me it’s the fact that I now make enough money to buy this bag, that is a real milestone. Making 6 figures a year… it’s a real milestone for me.
@@ingriddavis5707 That's not the comment was referring to. But congrats on your milestone because I recently achieved it too. So 1 year later, after your comment, I make over 6 figures at pretty young age and I come from a poor background. After reaching it, I realized I pay a lot in taxes lol But keep pushing!
Lol this is for the girls and boys who are DESPERATE to fit in. I could buy ten bags at once but if they can’t even promise me I will get the bag I want? WTF?? That’s ridiculous and absolutely a toxic af CULT.
A friend of mine who spends in Hermes has never been offered a holy grail bag but her husband(different surname and gorgeous)has bought two for her just by walking in and asking.....🖤🖤
Yea I've heard of men walking in and getting one right away, saying it's a gift for their wife. Seems so sexist. I really hate Hermes as a brand. I understand why they have this system (and it obviously works for them) but it's just so snobby and gross. And Birkins are ugly imo. But I do like the smaller sized Kelly's.
Hahaha, I feel like this is my own husband. He's handsome and looks GQ, and he's been offered more discount without really asking vs a friend of ours who uses her big boobs and sex appeal to do it but rejected flat on her face
Well,it seems that I stumbled upon the Rolex of the "bag - world". :) I am stunned, how many similarities are between my love for watches and my wife's love for bags
Aarghh this is pure gold. I was recently in their store and got great service (was buying shoes) and they had Birkins on display (not for purchase). I just looked at them and truthfully, have reconsidered the bag since I think the exclusivity is a sort of brainwash. I much rather go for a jumbo (having sworn I won’t at these price points 😅). Thank you so much for this brilliant video!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you Carolsummer. :) I love HERMES riding gear and cards and stuff like that so I am not all against their designs but their "Journey" policy is just very sketchy to say the least. haha.
PREACH! I agree 100%!!! 1. The "hermes journey" phrase has always made me gag. I ain't kissing up to no sales associate - if anything, they should be kissing up to me (lol) I'm not about to buy a bunch of items I don't actually want or like just to build up credit. Yes there are some items from Hermes I genuinely do like and will purchase, but that's besides the point. I love Chanel as a brand and because I'm so in love with the house, I'm excited about mostly everything they produce (despite some dwindling quality, but still, the warm fuzzy feeling I get with the brand is worth it). You need to be in love with the brand and the items they produce to support them with your money. You are absolutely right, if these bags weren't desirable because of exclusivity and being a positional good, not many people would want them. I do appreciate the house of Hermes because they actually do have a wide selection of luxury items at lower price points than Chanel (e.g. costume jewellery, home items, etc). So there is something for everyone. It's a great brand to shop from if you are looking to buy gifts for someone special. Relationships with SAs are important with various houses, besides Hermes. I mean, it shouldn't be that way because every customer who comes into the boutique should get the best customer service. But even at Chanel, it sure does help to have a long working relationship with the SA to be offered pre-orders for hot items, pre-sale, and special access to seasonal sales. Even repairs are handled differently when you have a long standing relationship with an SA. I loathe any games. Ain't nobody got time for that drama. Luxury shopping should be enjoyable, not a stressful hunt. I started to witness a glimmer of a shopping game with Chanel hot seasonal pieces when the pandemic started, special thanks to resellers/scalpers. I really hope Chanel does not adopt this crooked marketing strategy with their classics. Well done, Dacob!
Thank you dear and you brought up great points across the board. I hope so too that CHANEL does not go the HERMES route of classic bags being unattainable out of artificial scarcity but to be honest, I do not see CHANEL being able to pull it off anyway. I mention this in my video too and I do not think the 11.12 and 2.55 could become the Birkins and Kellys of CHANEL because then CHANEL would have to also play a different game and for example reduce the prices of their other goods just like HERMES does: you mentioned it in your comment too: HERMES accessories, jewelry and home decor costs less than said items cost at CHANEL. There is a reason why their non Birkin and Kelly products cost less: they have built most of their desirability as a brand basically only around two bag designs! Which, if you think about it, is very sad to begin with. But, they know that the rest of their products are not in high demand and hence the prices cannot skyrocket either. CHANEL on the other hand, makes highly desirable pieces across their entire design spectrum which leads them to turn much higher profits than Hermes would. Does CHANEL want to sacrifice all that in order to just make two bags the focal point of their brand? I don't think they do... ;)
@@SuperDacob great insight! We all don’t know what birkins and Kellys ultimately cost until they are “presented” to us. I do find some of their other non-quota bags also quite pricey for how simple they are in design. I feel like Chanel offers so many more adventurous and fashion forward yet classic pieces to have fun with. Feminine yet androgynous - you just feel on top of the world with Chanel!
This is so true. When they say that a Birkin bag is a good investment, i was like,,noooo... it is just another beanie baby. I would rather invest in a Saudi gold than throwing my money into a freaking bag.
Thank you!! finally someone points out the elephant in the room. You go on a journey with your life goals, your career, not a bag!! Make the bag 20K indeed! Lets be honest, no one would be buying as much as they are from Hermes but for the bags.
Hermes chose their client. They and the "fans" don't like it being called a "game", but it's basically a game. Like playing lottery. Imagine there are actually people spending $100,000 on ready-to-wear before being offered a Birkin, while other only need to come and chat for a few minutes without buying anything else and got one, in the same store in NYC. True story.
You are so true on Hermès. we as a consumer are use like a tool. Is so funny some TH-camr. Are saying without buying anything. They just ask . Love your video hope Chanel never gets like that . Xoxo from NYC Marlene
I think you are completely right in exposing this farce at Hermes....but I do like both the Birkin 30 and Kelly 28 because of their simplicity...are they worth the money - absolutely NOT! As for Chanel, I think the quality of both the lambskin and caviar are terrible now - looking so plastic. I have two vintage Chanels and there is just no comparison. Chanel think they can get away with cheap rubbish (the hardware tarnishes in months) for a premium price. I felt the leather on a recent Chanel Trendy and it looked like one of those cheap leather sofas. It is a shame because some of the styles are interesting.
Amen! Wise words Dacob. I agree 💯 👍🏻 To me both the Birkin and Kelly are not practical bags. The Birkin is clunky, clumsy and heavy. The Kelly is difficult to get in and out of, and frankly too prim and proper looking (which is soooo not me 😂). It’s a lot of money to spend on something that’s frustrating to use. At least Chanel bags can look edgy and adapt to any outfit. As for the silly H game, that’s just standover tactics if you ask me and should be outlawed.
I think everyone has that bag that made them fall in love with luxury bags. I remember when I was very young.. my grandmother got the birkin and I fell in love with it at first sight. I always wanted and birkin and Kelly. I still kinda do, but I don’t like begging for people to take my money. So, I may never buy the birkin or Kelly. However, I’m very happy with my closet full of Chanel 😍🥰
Dacob I totally agree with you. I refuse to play Hermes' begging game. I'm a lawyer and Hermes' "journey" is absolutely legal. Even the local supermarket has the right to refuse to sell you milk. Legally speaking, it's the customer who makes the offer to buy a product at a given price and if the seller accepts the offer, then an agreement or a contract is formed. Even though this does not reflect reality, as the products have a price set by the seller.
Yassssssss! You woke up and chose violence and I’m here for it. You literally sound like my mother and her feelings towards Hermès (even though I’ve gifted her a Birkin). I don’t think your dragging Hermès but I love the truthfulness of your video 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Hermes lost me once I saw that the Kardashians have collections of hundreds of Birkins in every lurid colour. Those bags certainly don't represent class and elegance to me
Thank you Alliah. A few have tentatively tried to come for me but the people that have tried, just prove themselves wrong by not even listening to what I say in my video... instead they attack and accuse me of having said things that I have never said... LOL... oh well... haha.
As a huge birkin/kelly fan I laughed too hard at this video. All your points are accurate. I’ve only started my vegas a month and already want to opt out. Thinking of buying resale because my sanity is more important than money.
I would never go through this bs “journey” to “score” a bag. But personally I would rather deal with the Asian Stores where they would tell me how much I need to spend to get a Birkin, then I can decide whether I want to play this game or walk away. But here in the USA you are spending 10k without knowing whether you can get a B/K or not, and if you ask the SA they get offended
Thank you for enlightening me. Before today I did not know there was previous buying required to access a Birkin or Kelly. I had only heard about the long waitlists.
YES, YES, YES, I have said it before: Hermes is sounding more and more like a cult! Also fun fact: There is a greek god named Hermes, also it is a cult that is named Hermes (Hermes Far Eastern Shining, if I am not mistaken).
Oh Dacab, you have no idea how much you made me laugh with this video! Even being a confessed devoted to the Kelly bag design (and admitting that I would buy one if it was naturally on display and available for purchase), I couldn't agree more with your thoughts. I refuse to accept all those terms "journey", "involvement with the brand", "relationship with the SA" and, in particular, the expression "I was offered a Birkin/Kelly"!! Pleeease! Offered?! The only possible way I would use that expression would be if I wouldn't have to pay for the bag to bring it home! 😂
Great analysis on H. Sickening how things work for that brand. By the way Chanel in my country IS asking customers to buy in certain categories (eg fine jewlery, watches, rtw) in order to be offered the “hot” bags. My impression of chanel here is an H wannabe.
Thats very interesting to hear because I have never had a bad experience like that one at CHANEL. They are always super transparent about what they can hunt down for me form other boutiques in case they did not order the piece I want. But also CHANEL is great because if you talk to your SA right after a new fashion was shown online, you can tell them that you wish to PRE ORDER a piece and they will pre order it for you so you do not have to fight for it six months later when the collections actually start arriving to the stores. So it is very different to other luxury brands.
@@SuperDacob thanks for responding Dacob. Unfortunately the “post-buy” privileges as my chanel shop called it here have stopped for non-vip status customers. Elite status used to be able to pre-order after seeing the show but not anymore as Chanel SAs claimed they wanna make sure more walk-in customers will have better chances of buying their products. As u can imagine, my local chanel shop is making long-term customers super frustrated. All of our patronage that earned us the Elite status seemed to have gone to waste. 🥲 yes feeling super bitter ....
@@alliemollie wow I am surprised to hear this about Chanel. My SA is out of state so I can’t go to the boutique I hope they do not do this here in the US. If you do not mind me asking, in what country are you? Ty
I fell in love with Hermes products in 1997 when I bought my black boxcalf Bolide. At that time it wasn’t that complicated to get a Kelly or Birkin. I think I bought a scarf and a small leather good and asked about a Kelly. It must have been a week or two until I got one. Now it really turns me off what you have to go through to get one if you want one. A boutique just opened up in my state and I’ve bought a pair of sneakers, blanket, pillows, ceramic tray and porcelain because I loved them when I bought them. I really don’t think I’ll be after a bag now because for one I’m older and don’t really like a heavy bag. It’s really crazy now. Hermes lost something special that I miss from the earlier days.
You are fucking incredible, the way how you explain the true , the vocabulary, great job my friend . btw : learning new words with you in my English 💥💥
The Birkin is one of the ugliest bags I’ve ever laid my eyes on, seriously! And it must be incredibly heavy and impractical! Atleast the Kelly is less of an eye sore! Hermes has a lot of practical and aesthetically pleasing bags but they never get the same amount of attention
Sorry I missed this live, Dacob. Personally I’m a huge Kelly fan and a collector. To your point it’s a whole other ballgame and you just need the stamina. It’s tiring if you don’t love all things by the brand and only like bags or slgs, it will be a bad overall experience. I love everything by the house, the RTW, jewelry, and my god I love the silks.....so it was never hard and the bags came over the years.
“Stamina” give me a break😂 You think they make “the elite” jump through these hoops??? They are BEGGING to make them special order bags without them dropping a single CENT in their store They’ve brainwashed the people that KEEP THEIR DOORS OPEN into groveling like peasants for scraps. Value YOURSELF more than material things
@@Mod0308 I am not elite, or a celebrity, I am a many decade long lover and buyer of the brand and every bag I have requested I have been able to purchase, some with wait some without. I’ve also has special orders several times. Maybe they do this for the “elite” without their loyalty to the brand, but I love many things they make, not just the bag. I have cardigans and shawls that have lasted 20 years. I cherish quality and value, the price per wear of my wardrobe is quite low. Everyone can live life their own way, please choose what is best for you. I was simply telling Dacob my view, wasn’t meant to lecture or lead anyone else.
In Brazil, were I live, in São Paulo to be specific, we have 2 big Hermès stores, even an flagship one, and here is ilegal to deny any client to sell any product, so in their stores they never showcase this bags. Iam graduated in Fashion communication, and one of my professors did an research about the brand, and in his work he found out that they have an matter about TIME, their logo is an coachman “waiting” for the Lady to start an journey, so is in their DNA the issue about wait. Love the videos ✌️😘
Love you Dacob! *Im 69 years old and have always wanted a Chanel bag, like the one she used, the small, BUT, though I’d heard and seen Birkens before in magazines, I don’t think there was ever the kind of mania there appears to be today to obtain one. When do I think the mania began? With The Kardashians!!! I have never thought that bag was “to die for,” but I can understand why many people today covet it so! You know I love watching you and darling Maria Draganova. I almost want to weep watching her bring home so many Chanel items, and she wears them all so beautifully! But for me, Coco and her company, will always be #1. ❤️🤗
This "Hermes Journey" just to get a purse is a bunch of games. If people would stop feeding into these games the shelves would be full of Birkins and Kellys.
No point in the game. Vintage is the way to go. Find a reputable company and you do not have to play the game. I would say that the best way to show loyalty to the brand is the Buffett way: buy stock, and you get money from them! Though, then you do not have a bag collection, only a portfolio.
@@SuperDacob Hermès internatonal sca is listed in Paris Stock Exchange as RMS. In 2019, the company was so highly valued it was included among the 40 most valuable companies or CAC-40 index. The price of the stock was 689 euros last August, and today's valuation was 1114,50 euros. The reason for this is that stock is mostly held in family, so you were right about the company being family-owned. So, price of a Birkin is 10 shares. The last time the price jumped was when LVMH tried to acquire Hermès, but fortunately failed in their attempt.
I love how you said make the fricking bag cost double the amount of $! I think that would be better than going through so much drama just to score a B or K which already priced pretty high already. I haven't even stepped foot inside H... There was a time I thought about it but that did not lost long... I don't have the time nor the patience to play the rip off game... 😂 I will just stick with Chanel, thank you! Another great video Dacob! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I’m with u on this. I love Hermes’ home collections from their porcelains to lightings to furnitures. However, I never buy them for the purpose of getting a bag. Begging for a bag feels so humiliating
I would never play this game. I knew before hand this whole "journey" is a scam and it's so ridiculous to spend money on things you don't want to maybe be lucky enough to be "the chosen one" and get a bag?! I'm just saving up snd within a year or two I'll be able to buy a birkin second hand in one of my dream colours pre loved. Still will be cheaper than playing the game and spending money on fine jewellery and blankets/pillows when I don't even want them. I guess some people enjoy the rush and gamble of it though where I've never gambled before
OMG the glazing🤮 Seriously, the first time I saw one in person I thought it had to be fake because why would such thickly glazed edges cost so much? It was completely real.
When did Kelly bags become so popular? I fell in love with one in Hermes store in the 90's and it wasn't a big deal. It was just there for sale. 🤷 I couldn't afford one, but it is definitely far more expensive now, even with inflation. Such B.S.! I wouldn't support this shakedown, even if I could afford it. That's what it - a shakedown. Someone needs to sue. I'll get something with the same shape for far less, thanks very much!
Another informative video! So glad you posted this as I fell asleep before this part on the livestream 😭 the only item I have is a beautiful scarf and I treasure it! 💕💖💛😘
I could never afford one or want something my cobbler could create to my specifications. During lockdown I went down the rabbit hole of Hermes unboxing videos & people crying at not being ‘offered’ one after spending tons on items or the suspicion that the SA didn’t like them. I don’t get it. You’re right. It’s a cult.
I have no idea about the whole fashion business. But your explanations lead me to the following conviction: If you're very rich/famous, it's no big deal to eventually get to the bag. In the meantime, you just buy a yacht or a cessna.... However, if you are a rather average person (like me), you not only have to spend a lot of money, but above all have to endure being a very patient and devoted person towards a company to finally get to the glorious goal and that makes the whole thing totally unattractive to me in the end. Unfortunately.
"If that bag would be without the logo and on the shelf at Wallmart.... you wouldn't even look at it" .....and THAT is the truth! For any luxury bag, in my opinion. I fall for the marketing too, and then I have the exact same thoughts "would I still like it without the logo?". It's a very selfconfronting way of thinking. It's my bdsm side that loves it! 😅 anyway, thank you for being the one who actually says it out loud. You are wonderful! ❤
I heard from many Asian influencers that in Asia (well China), they are very open about it. Apparently SA's would literally tell you, "Ok, to get a Birkin 30, the purchase ratio is 1:1.2, the 25 is like 1:1.5". And other relatively high demand bags or SLGs don't count, so you have to buy jewelry, ready to wear, or houseware. Then, after choosing the things you'll buy, they'll take you to get the bag you want.
When you play foolish games you get foolish prizes. However, I surmise that there are lots of knockoffs in the market if you compare what is actually made versus what has sold. You are what you consume after all.
The worst thing is when they are offered a bag, it’s not even what they want. Idk how anyone falls for this 😭😂
Bravo! I completely agree. The "journey" is just so desperate. Also when you have to "build" a relationship with an SA & for them to have the final word if your the chosen one. Its pretty much low key discrimination in my opinion
Yes, its very borderline, as I say in my video. To say the least, it is not comfortable for most potential customers.
Do they even actually allow minority Sales associates?
By that i mean… I’ve never seen one. But I don’t go arnd there frequently.
It is all so thirsty.
Amen!
I’m totally with you Dacob! It’s not about the money, it’s the cringe factor. A lot of people just want it just because it’s unattainable, not because they truly love the design or functionality. A “journey” to getting shammed.
Thank you Michelle! And uhhh the shade you dropped was delicious!
I dunno.
Remembering Samantha Jones "journey" to hunt down a Birkin, where everyone said it wasn't even their style but they want one for what it is saying...
Thanks haha. Love to you and hubbie 💖💖💖💖💖
Me too-Totally Binging! Its what I didn’t know I was missing in my life! Haha
Well said, Dacob! The idea of having to submit ourselves to this foolish game to be able to buy a bag is not elegant at all. I also believe that many people want to purchase those bags so they can show how "exclusive" or "special" they are.
Thank you Marcello dear. The games make it vulgar, not luxurious.
Comparing “the journey” to the Vegas sandwich trick was EVERYTHING!! Made me subscribe.
What Hermes does to customers is disgusting . It should be illegal . Yet, people are willing to play along so they just perpetuate it .
21 people that disliked this video are probably on their Birkin Journey lol
Haha! Good one! That is probably the case 😂😂😂
Those poor souls... hope they get bored soon so they can buy the bag they want second hand and be happy instead of waiting for someone else to deem them worthy
😂😂😂
Bag is ugly
Lmao telling the King of Chanel he can’t afford a Birkin. This video made me laugh so hard. Especially with the other you tubers going on and on about going on their Hermès Journey. Like they’re reaching Enlightenment. And then the ones “I’m soooo shocked I was able to get one”. It’s so cringe.
I know Jane dear, but you know how trolls are... Trolls will be trolls. LOL! They try... bless them... they try... LOL.
Perfectly stated and “Like they’re reaching Enlightenment” had me cracking up
LOL Dacob IS the King of Chanel! 🖤🤍🖤🤍
Then they say stuff like “I am so fortunate, I am so grateful” after spending over $30k to get offered a $10k bag. lmao I can’t 😂
and the fact that you hear so many romantic stories about how all they did was "buy a scarf and asked nicely" or didn't ask at all and was offered immediately. like they were divinely chosen lol. even the wasp-iest young women with generational wealth (people like to suggest they wouldnt put customers through hoops if they look a certain way, or have a certain socioeconomic class) had to buy a significant amount of crap over the years and flex their fashion knowledge to prove something to their SAs.
This is nice to hear but maybe because it’s different in London? Btw, congrats and enjoy your B25!
Beauuuutiful. You're really lucky but you are an exception for not having to play the game.
Hi @S Tanza Can I ask you what store it was?
Thank you Lisa.
THIS is why I prefer second hand or vintage. Playing the “game” feels degrading. I love the bags, but not the chase.
my thing is, the journey is stupid. when you look outside Hermes, there’s SOOO many Kellys and Birkins, preloved and brand new. non-hermes resellers have shelves stocked with them yet the prices are still high. what that tells us is that there is a man-made bubble. this “exclusivity” that they achieved is fragile.
Exactly! Great point made Raye! Thank you.
I own Chanel, Versace, and Coach bags. Those are three completely different brands. But I bought them because I love the bag itself, rather than buying the brand name behind them. And more importantly, rather than how much it cost.
I feel like people thst get on this"
" journey " is coping with an emotional need of being accepted. They want to feel "they made it". Thst they were worth enough of obtaining. This goes beyond fashion.
Exactly. Many people cope in a way that they shop for their fantasy-self.
ETA: I believe Oprah didn't make a big deal cause doesn't need a bs "journey", she's the f*cking destination
my husband would be thrilled! "We CAN'T buy it!!" I would love to take him into the store just to have them tell us this 🤣
Lol and the fact that people consider getting a birkin/Kelly as reaching a “milestone” in life is just pathetic 😅😂
@@ingriddavis5707 So.. a flex??
Lol this is for the girls and boys who are DESPERATE to fit in. I could buy ten bags at once but if they can’t even promise me I will get the bag I want? WTF?? That’s ridiculous and absolutely a toxic af CULT.
A friend of mine who spends in Hermes has never been offered a holy grail bag but her husband(different surname and gorgeous)has bought two for her just by walking in and asking.....🖤🖤
Thats a very good point Andrew! And it just shows even more how superficial these brands are in general.
This happened to me with another brand. I purposely told him to handle it for me and .. he got the bag.
It's a disgrace. I'll continue to buy my own bags with my own hard-earned money elsewhere thanks
Hahaha, I feel like this is my own husband. He's handsome and looks GQ, and he's been offered more discount without really asking vs a friend of ours who uses her big boobs and sex appeal to do it but rejected flat on her face
Well done. It’s downright obscene to hear it spoken aloud. You nailed it. And yeah if Zara sold the design first, who knows if it would even sell.
Well,it seems that I stumbled upon the Rolex of the "bag - world". :) I am stunned, how many similarities are between my love for watches and my wife's love for bags
Yep. Many similarities. Basically all boils down to toys for grown ups 🤷🏻♂️
You killed this!!!❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Maria dear.
This video was epically hilarious! “Call it Vegas!” and “Not today Satan, not today” killed me 🤣🤣
Aarghh this is pure gold.
:) I love HERMES riding gear and cards and stuff like that so I am not all against their designs but their "Journey" policy is just very sketchy to say the least. haha.
You are too smart for them ! Thank You Dacob for saying this
Thank you CREAM.
PREACH! I agree 100%!!! 1. The "hermes journey" phrase has always made me gag. I ain't kissing up to no sales associate - if anything, they should be kissing up to me (lol)
I'm not about to buy a bunch of items I don't actually want or like just to build up credit.
11:56 Preach it!!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Jacket of fake rolexes? 😂😂😂😂 Great illustration.

Cheers! And welcome to Dacob's TED Talk!
No TED talk is a lot of brainwashing and dumbing down going on! This is hey wake up from a 3rd dimension!
I love this video ! So trust everything you said!
This is so true. When they say that a Birkin bag is a good investment, i was like,,noooo... it is just another beanie baby. I would rather invest in a Saudi gold than throwing my money into a freaking bag.
Hahaha!!!! OMG! Love the analogy! The beanie baby shade is delicious!!!
Thank you!! finally someone points out the elephant in the room. You go on a journey with your life goals, your career, not a bag!! Make the bag 20K indeed! Lets be honest, no one would be buying as much as they are from Hermes but for the bags.
Those who are on their Hermes journey already reached their life goals and careers.
Birkin is so beautiful bag. I have a dupe without logo & I am enjoying it
Hermes chose their client. True story.
Yep... thats the game...
You said what most of us think, but don’t have courage to say... BRAVO!👏👏👏
You are so true on Hermès. we as a consumer are use like a tool. Is so funny some TH-camr. Are saying without buying anything. They just ask . Love your video hope Chanel never gets like that . Xoxo from NYC Marlene
Kisses to you too Marlene dear!
Sounds just like an abusive relationship, see your own worth and move on, ain’t no one making you feel belittle is worth your love.
Thats a good point too.
By the time you spend enough to be "offered" a bag, you can go pre-loved, spend a little more, and get what you want.
I’m really glad I found you channel!!! I’ve been binging your videos all weekend.
Thank you so much for subscribing to my channel Stephanie! Welcome to the fashion bunker!
Buy it preloved
You're completely right! ❤️
🙏🏻💖
The sandwich trick in Vegas absolutely priceless

As a huge birkin/kelly fan I laughed too hard at this video. All your points are accurate. I’ve only started my vegas a month and already want to opt out. Thinking of buying resale because my sanity is more important than money.
The Scientology analogy is so on point.
I had only heard about the long waitlists.
omg your analogy to scientology lmao. so true!!! adore you darling.

Well said MissPandora! Thank you!
This is sick. I am very happy to not be into these bags. This sounds embarrassing to be a part of. You are brilliant! Well spoken. ❤️
Thank you Amy!

Thaaaaaaank youuuuuuuuu. I thought I was insane cause nobody saw it! We're giving all our power to them!

I really love their Evelyn bag but in think they took it out of product.
“Stamina” give me a break😂
You think they make “the elite” jump through these hoops??? They are BEGGING to make them special order bags without them dropping a single CENT in their store
They’ve brainwashed the people that KEEP THEIR DOORS OPEN into groveling like peasants for scraps.

@@Mod0308 I am not elite, or a celebrity, I am a many decade long lover and buyer of the brand and every bag I have requested I have been able to purchase, some with wait some without. This "Hermes Journey" just to get a purse is a bunch of games. If people would stop feeding into these games the shelves would be full of Birkins and Kellys.
This man wakes up every morning to speak FACTS
You earn a loyal subs😍 love your honest talk!
Thank you so much 🤗
The Kelly bag style won my heart but I hate their “journey”. So I bought the leather, hardware and instruments to build my own personal Kelly.
No point in the game. Vintage is the way to go. Find a reputable company and you do not have to play the game. I would say that the best way to show loyalty to the brand is the Buffett way: buy stock, and you get money from them! Though, then you do not have a bag collection, only a portfolio.
HERMES is privately owned, just as is CHANEL. They are both NOT on the stock market, which I highly respect of them. xoxo
Omg🤣🤣 looza palooza..you killed it..so good Dacob
😂🙏🏻😘
Amen!!! PREACH . It’s a sick game
Thank you Celia dear.
By the way thanks for this hilarious video that made my day 🤣🤣🤣 keep pouring hot tea ☕️😂
Glad you enjoyed my video Dana! More tea is on the way ;) Stay tuned dear.
I’m with u on this. I love Hermes’ home collections from their porcelains to lightings to furnitures. However, I never buy them for the purpose of getting a bag. Begging for a bag feels so humiliating
🙏🏻💖
Very well said Dacob. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you Angelakier
I would never play this game. I knew before hand this whole "journey" is a scam and it's so ridiculous to spend money on things you don't want to maybe be lucky enough to be "the chosen one" and get a bag?!
I'm just saving up snd within a year or two I'll be able to buy a birkin second hand in one of my dream colours pre loved. Still will be cheaper than playing the game and spending money on fine jewellery and blankets/pillows when I don't even want them.
I guess some people enjoy the rush and gamble of it though where I've never gambled before
Werk! I love this conversation ❤️
Slow. Clap. 👏🏻 Bravo, Dacob! ❤️
Thank you Oli dear.
The sandwich trick from Vegas, ahahahahah I could not stop laughing....:-)
A Vegas Kelly :-)))
OMG the glazing🤮 Seriously, the first time I saw one in person I thought it had to be fake because why would such thickly glazed edges cost so much? It was completely real.
Yeah, the glazing puts me off big time! With any brand really...
Ahahahahaahahahahahahah 💯 Dacob!!! I am just gonna say this and not in a creepy way: I LOVE YOU Dacob 💓
“How dare you! Thumbs down.”😂😂
When did Kelly bags become so popular? I fell in love with one in Hermes store in the 90's and it wasn't a big deal. It was just there for sale. 🤷 I couldn't afford one, but it is definitely far more expensive now, even with inflation. Such B.S.! I wouldn't support this shakedown, even if I could afford it. That's what it - a shakedown. Someone needs to sue. I'll get something with the same shape for far less, thanks very much!
Preach it! Meanwhile, 97% of the people never heard of Hermes before. I could go on but you know what I’m saying.
Another informative video! So glad you posted this as I fell asleep before this part on the livestream 😭 the only item I have is a beautiful scarf and I treasure it! 💕💖💛😘
Thank you dear. I love a lot of the pieces they make and I love the quality. No doubt about it but its the marketing games I do not care for.
Its definitely a very very slippery slope...
@@ShweMyaukMyauk I felt awful for her. Maybe what happened was for the best in the long run.
Yes, its a hassle and for many people the results of the hassle are not good and they go through bad experiences.
Thank you Alphafish22 🥰🙏🏻
From a person who own a Birkin…. You are right!!!
Thank you.
Yes that’s legit. They are quite outspoken about it.
It is literally like when you go to a store and they say whatever you want is sold out cuz they’re saving it for themselves or a friend 💀
When you play foolish games you get foolish prizes. However, I surmise that there are lots of knockoffs in the market if you compare what is actually made versus what has sold. You are what you consume after all.
OMG I luv Super Jacob. Cannot agree more.
