Bay Sports stocks all the spare parts for all the drives, which makes life easier. Most of them are on their website or just contact their customer support.
That's just lack of maintenance. You need to tighten and check your gear before heading out. Same as transporting on your car, it loosens up the bolts and parts, just tightening would have prevented this.
I had the same issues with the flap drive. The fact they give you 2 spare flaps says they know it will happen. The rod eventually snapped on my mates as well. We give up and put an outboard on.
I have had one fin stem break but after 2 years. That moment where the blade fell off is lack of maintinance. you need to keep that srew tight or they will fall out. I ended up using marine goop to stop it from spinning and never had a problem. Yes i have had many issues over 4 years but most of them is wear and tear.
Great that you've getting good use from the drive. Perhaps it's just not up to pushing a double kayak , as you can see I have in the video. Since I now replace with Hobie Mirage GT parts I don't have issues. Yes, normal wear and tear is fine, but my drive broke on the second day out. 😅 I also use my kayak in the ocean which is more stress on the drive.
I've had a pretty decent run out of their 3.2 prop drive, and it's been banged around in snaggy water. Also with the prop drive you can pedal backwards for reverse drive.
Also when you say these are cheap.. go look up hobie mirage drive broken on youtube.. You will see the same issues with the older GT classic style drives.. I'd say that is why hobie didn't care about extended the patent on them cause they had so many issues.
Bro, you had 4 of these fins break on you ?? Seriously ? Have any other costumer had the same issue with this fin pedals ? Did you final got one that had last you ?
I replace part with Mirage GT parts now and they work well. The Bay Sports pedal drive is basically a Mirage GT clone with inferior parts. Maybe my fin rods were made from a bad batch of steel. Who knows.

That's a very fair point. Thanks.

Yes. I thought about it, but I still need the exercise ;)
