"Gnossiennes" were composed by the French composer Erik Satie around 1890 and first published in 1893. A revision prior to publication in 1893 is not unlikely; the 2nd Gnossienne may even have been composed in that year (it has "April 1893" as date on the manuscript). The piano solo versions of the first three Gnossiennes are without time signatures or bar lines, which is known as "free time".

This is the tempo I believe Satie had in mind when he wrote this beautiful piece. I feel a lot of musicians tend to "hurry" a bit with the timing. Well done, thank you...

From Saties notes in the sheet music this piece is clearly a sort of meditative and introspective questioning of your own internal self, a journey where you take some time to dive deep into yourself and question what you find step by step until you feel closer to an understanding; and that's just not the kind of thing you rush, you take your time with that. He marked the tempo as "lent", and it's obvious he didn't just mean "kinda slow", he meant "slow".
Reinbert de Leeuw's piano performance of the piece is also a really good example of someone who plays the piece at the tempo I believe Satie intended.

@@halilbatnbucak7125 I do. I rented a violin for beginners for six months straight after listened to this, and worked like 2 hours a day, 5 days out of 7. Luckily this track was awesome to start with, as it's slow and have long notes, I never felt frustation about speed or hard sequences. Except vibratos, who are hard to master at start. I warmly recommend this piece in particular to familiarize with instrument if you are starting it.

Absolutely gorgeous! I’ve just recently learned to play this on the piano. I adore your nuanced and contemplative version here on violin. I’m not sure why so many musicians seem to play this too fast… For my tastes, anyway. Thank you for sharing this lovely rendition.
