I believe Giannis is the best but have no problem with anyone arguing Joker. During the regular season, when Jokic didn't play, the Nuggets were one of the worst teams in the NBA. When he did play, the Nuggets were one of the best teams in the NBA. There's no other single player on any roster in the NBA that has that kind of impact on the team winning games.

True and a bunch of stats has shown how unique Jokic is as a player. He's just a different player than what we've seen ever. People like to compare him to other greats like Duncan, Magic and Dirk. But really, Jokic's game is his own. There are similarities with the names I mentioned, but it's just not the same.

@@darrengordon-hill East sucks. Phily are pretenders who can't get past round 2. The only teams capable of getting to the NBA finals (generally) are the Celtics and Bucks. West has much more competition where anyone can win a series. Kings, Warriors, Grizzlies, (healthy) Clippers, Lakers, Suns, Nuggets. All these teams looked capable of reaching the WCF (the Grizzlies and Kings not as much but the potential is there). You can't say that for teams like the Cavs, Knicks, and whichever other irrelevant teams are in the East.

This is a HORRENDOUS take by Ric Bucher, (who I like). Jokic plays in the West while Embiid and Giannis play in the East. Even if Jokic had made it to the Finals the past three seasons, he still would have only faced Giannis one time and Embiid ZERO times!! It's not Jokic's fault that Embiid can't make it past the second round of the playoffs!
Even if Giannis and Embiid were 100% healthy, Jokic would still be 2x better than either player. Both Giannis and Embiid have glaring flaws in their game. Jokic is a much more talented player than those two guys.
Jokic is definitely the best player on the planet right now because he has all. You can't guard him one on one cause he's too skilled. You can't trap or double him because he has amazing passing skills and ALWAYS finds the open man. You can't leave him outside cause he has a great perimeter shot. And you can't even say his defense is bad cause his +/- is better whenever he's on the court. Couple all that with the fact that he NEVER seems to have a bad game like a lot of other superstars and I think he's the best.

@@jamesdavidson8306 Jokic may not be the rim protector that Embiid and Giannis are, but he's not exactly a sieve like earlier in his career. He's still a big body who plays solid positional defense and plays enough team defense to be a factor. He still gets double digit rebounds around the rim which is also big. There's zero question that he's the best offensive player out of the three as Embiid isn't a better outside shooter and passer & we all know Giannis' penchant for downfalls at the free throw line and outside of attacking the rim.

I think Joy hit the nail on the head. Joker doesn't look the part but the shots go in the basket, the passes arrive on time and he's in the right place to get the rebounds. He doesn't dance after making a hard shot, he's not going to get a modelling contract and he won't become a commentator with Shaq, Ernie, Kenny and Chuck. But knows and can play the game of basketball.

Giannis injury is no excuse for his playoff performance. I'm a big Giannis supporter, but shooting 10 for 23 from the ft line and being afraid to shoot free throws is embarassing. Not to mention he cost his team the series against a 8 seed you can't be the best player in the league after a letdown like that.
Also, I don't think he was disqualifying Giannis as the best player in the world when he won the championship even though the Lakers, Clippers, and Warriors (even the Nets weren't at 100%) were all injured that 2021 season.
I like Giannis but the man needs to learn how to at least shoot free throws. It's embarrassing. And it will always be exploited by teams going forward.
To me, despite all flaws Giannis is proven, he won it all and was main player in that run. Jokic is proving himself right now (ongoing, depends of final outcome), Embid has to make conference finals to start with. Every year in playoffs it is something about him, 2 years ago scape goat was Ben, this and last year some injuries, bad coaching, Harden washed... but wider picture: this or that reason, he always fails:)

Being healthy is a hallmark of a best player in the league. Injuries, most of the time, are due to bad plays and decision making such as forcing into the lane, overusage of Eurostep to avoid defenders. As Jokic had said after game one, he based his plays on what the game offered him to do. Being smart and outlasting all of the great players in the league makes Jokic the best player right now.
Exactly! You’re absolutely right! Injuries can sometimes be a result of bad or even reckless plays because of bad decision making. Look at Jayson Tatum in game 7 of the eastern conference finals. His ankle injury might have cost his team a win. Why did the injury happen? It happened, I believe, because Tatum tried to force a very tough, and bad shot to start the game. I remember seeing the play in real time as it happened and I remember thinking that he’s really trying to force one to start the game. It didn’t look like a natural shot, it looked like he was either hunting a foul or forcing a tough shot through traffic. Which of course led to an awkward jump and a bad position for landing. I was not surprised that it led to an injury. The same thing happened with Giannis in game 1 of the first round. He tried to force a tough shot, tried to bulldoze his way through the lane, Kevin Love was positioned for a charge, and Giannis just ran into him. So in way, avoiding injuries is almost a skill. Jokic almost never forces those types of bad shots. Of course injuries can always happen regardless, but you minimize the chance of an injury happening based on your style of play.
forcing into the lane is exactly why Giannis got hurt. Similar to how Ja Morant just jumps 15 ft into the air without realizing how dangerous it is.
He just jammed in trying to bowl over opponents when they were on a cold streak and ended up landing on his back.
Jokic doesnt do that at all. He plays a two man game and patiently observes what the defense is giving him before making a move. Which is probably why he doesnt get injured trying to force dumb plays.
@@LeapingRat Jokic is also a master at dictating the pace of the game down the possession, and forcing his opponents to play at that pace in order to get them out of their comfort zone. He can certainly run an up-tempo game, but what I've noticed is that when opponents try to turn things into a track meet, he'll go at about 3/4 speed to force them to account for where he's directing the offense. On post-ups, he can dribble for far longer than normal, then use a quick spin or a hesitation move depending on what the opponents is expecting. And if they try to slow things down in transition, he'll embarrass them with those cross-court passes for easy layups. Dude is like the Greg Maddux of the NBA.
