Thomas Aquinas is recognized as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church; he was canonized in 1323. However, in the Orthodox Christian tradition, he is not officially recognized as a saint. This lack of recognition is primarily due to the schism between the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Churches, which occurred in 1054. The heresy of the Filioque that was introduced in the Nicean Creed by Rome caused the schism.
I disagree that all religious language is analogous. We need to be very careful of “leaning on our own understanding” and stay true to God’s word, which He says will last forever. When doing that, we know that God is all-powerful. Yes, that’s greater than we can really know this side of life, but it’s still true.✌️
Right, but I can talk to 10 different people that each have their own ideas on a passage from Scripture means, so leaning on one's own understanding is quite common, especially considering that every translation you read is exactly that, a translation. We're designed by God to think, to pick things apart, to meditate on things until we feel have a better grasp on what we read. Furthermore, seeing as how we are all in one way or another influenced by something in this world, and even to the smallest level, it would be impossible to have our own understanding anyway.
I think even Alex would have to eventually end at the definition of God being a person because everything we have access to, whether that be knowledge or experience is filtered through our personhood. The universe is personal because we all experience it as persons; so why would it be a stretch to say that the source of ultimate reality is a person. God the Father, Son and Spirit living in perfect union; God is Love.
It sounds like Rainn is thinking of God more in a sense of a 'force', than a distinct person. While we are hindered by language in our ability to comprehend God, moving towards the 'God is everything' type thinking ironically makes God nothing.
Sorry can I ask, do you see the Bible as a true story, in a sense that all those things and events actually happened in history? Or do you see it as psychological and mythological book with deeper spiritual meaning? Thank you
The commenter here, Pastor of One Life Church, is 100% orthodox and so understands the Bible in accordance with the style of the individual books. Ie, he understands Psalms is Poetry and not meant to be understood literally, Gospels are greco-roman history, the epistles are letters to churches, etc etc.

In asking for proof of the existence of God, in the very questions lies the answer. Ask your self what is it about a proof that makes it so great? A proof is great becouse it does not depend on the time, place or person that gives it. A proof exist even if it has never been spoken. Therefore where do they exist and were they created? If you believe proofs were not created then you believe the proofs are eternal. So then the proofs are your God. If you believe the proofs have a creator then that creator is God. PS:It takes a mind/intelligence to understand a proof so can a proofs exist with no Mind or is a Mind essential for the existence of proof?
Also Jesus said if you have seen me you have seen the Father, and he said i do those things i have seen from my Father. So you can look at Jesus actions to get an idea of what God wants. Also Jesus had to be a living sacrifice and suffer in the persuit of doing the will of the Father in so doing conquering death and offering salvation & repentance to those who are willing to see that this is all from God and to accept that Jesus died on the cross to show righteousness wins over suffering, death and sin. Believe, repent and be baptized. Accept that everything Jesus did is from God and Gods plan to be saved. Sometimes debates stray too far from the simple core message. Jesus said he is the way and the truth and the life, no one gets to the Father but through him.

No, this interview did not make Alex rethink religion. Please watch the whole interview.
I'll listen to Alex in about twenty years. Once life has had him a bit longer. He's intelligent, but he's practically a newborn.
Thanks! I love how smart and down to earth you are. Really appreciate your work. God bless you.
We are the thinking and wondering, conceptualizing parts of the all.
Alex rethink? You can't unsee how the story makes no sense whatsoever, Christians make God so small. Exactly what we would expect from a man made God.
How do Christians make God small? Stupidest thing I've ever heard
Alex isn't rethinking anything.

Then what is God?
@7bag7 we can't say what God is. But at minimum scriptures say he's three persons, one God. He definitely isn't his creation.
