I loved this book so much. I read it for the first time in May of last year and annotated the hell out of it. After I was done it never left my mind. Even when I stared other books it was just there in the back of my mind constantly. I’m going to do a re read of it again this year in the fall and I can’t wait to go over my annotations again. I wish I had more recommendations on books like this but I struggled to find any. I did however buy the rest of Donna Tarts books but I haven’t read them just because I hold The Secret History so highly. I’d love to see a video of some recs on books like this if you ever get a list going! fantastic video! ❤
First of all, I'm so glad you read this book. It might be my favorite book. After reading this book, nothing was ever the same again, and I wanted to read more things like this, just like you. The character of Henry Winter has a very special place in my heart. I haven't gotten over him yet🥲 Although the dark academia genre is quite broad, I think the best is still The Secret History. The bar it sets is not something that can be passed easily. You can read these in the dark academia genre: If We Were Villains, The Maidens, Ninth House, Babel, A Lesson In Vengeance, Catherine House, A Study In Drowning, In My Dreams I Hold A Knife. I hope you like them❤
The Goldfinch by Donna tart is very different but had that kind of unpredictablness of the secret history too, I think you would like the main character
I’ve started it last year and read the first 200 pages but because it was slow and didn’t really happen anything, I kinda faded away from it and I haven’t read it since . But now you made the video abt this, I think I should pick it up and start reading it again!! ❤
Try out the audiobook if you want a change of pace! It’s really engaging and included with Spotify premium if you have that. I switched formats along the way and I feel like that kept it extra interesting 💕
This is on my TBR for this year! My favorite book is If We Were Villains and I’ve heard it’s similar to The Secret History so I’m super excited to read this one!
Ooh!!! I will have to check this book out. It sounds really interesting. I trust anything that you recommend now after I read "The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue" based off your book review and recommendation for that book. I have never seen or heard much about "Saltburn" but I will have to check that out as well.
@@nikkisbooknook I'm gonna start it after I finish reading my two other books. I'm currently reading "All Rhodes Lead Here" and "Lessons in Chemistry". "Lessons in Chemistry" is not very good unfortunately. Looking forward to reading something Addie LaRue adjacent next 🥳!!!
@@Lauren_Stern I do hope you checked The Secret History out or still plan to! It's my favorite. Also mainly wanted to comment and say I'm glad I'm no the only one, who thinks Lessons In Chemistry isn't good. I didn't even finish it, just gave it back to my library
@@dianaisme I did read the secret history! I thought it was an interesting read. It wasn't my favorite but I liked the overall story. I'm currently reading my ARC of "Nothing Like The Movies" so I will read "If We Were Villains" next. Man oh man, I couldn't finish "Lessons in Chemistry". I stopped 40% in... it was awful.
@@Lauren_Stern The Secret History is not gonna be everyones fav but it's great you gave it a whirl! I have my doubts on if I want to put Nothing Like The Movies, on my to buy list. I do hope you enjoy it! If We Were Villains is on my radar, but there's simply too many books and too little time! Lessons In Chemistry is a big no from me! I only got a few chapters into it
I’ve had this book on my shelf for so long but no one ever said it was about 😭 you did such a good job explaining it ! It makes me want to read it now and I am LOVING this era for you 🩷🩷it shows you can read silly little rom coms and love older classic books i hope you start making more videos about other books in this genre 🙏🏽
I read the Secret History when it was first published- so yes I am old. 😂. With that said I loved the book and have made any readers around me read the book. I have read it a few times. IMO it is a masterpiece!
I totally agree with you!! This book is literally so good 💜 Love your reactions.. And hey!! can you make a reading vlog of powerless by Lauren Roberts? It's one of the best Romantasy book I've read 💜
You could try American psycho (maybe the audiobook would be best cause it’s not a fast paced book at all), and please read ottessa Moshfegh, you will be obsessed!!
I have this book on my shelf for years you’re inspiring me to read it!!🥹 I heard “if we were villains” and” special topics in calamity physics” gives the same vibes
