I’ve had the AX-27 and used it extensively in the West Aussie outback and can honestly say it is brilliant (100% dust and rainproof). The only negative is the telescopic ladder that is provided with this tent. Not only is it heavy, but the quality is sub-standard when compared to the RTT itself. It does not handle the dust and sand very well at all (i.e. over time, it has seized up and requires constant maintenance to allow it to be extended and packed up. I accept that it is difficult to provide a ladder that would suit every user, but pretty disappointed with this aspect of the AX-27. Regarding your comments re the heat, I've mounted my solar panels (flexible light weight) on an aluminum frame which on top, which allows an air gap between it and the top of the RTT - this is excellent for keeping the sun directly off the roof of the RTT and thus makes it a lot cooler.
Great review. I have an AX27 also. I am looking at getting a custom mattress also. 1.What are the exact measurements of your mattress? 2.What was the costing of this mattress?
Hey guys epic review i also recently bought the ax27 but the newer model where the power plugs are at the side of the matress. 2 questions what solar pannel are you guys running and what swing arm is the shower tent on or is it a DIY job or bought?
Hey swing bracket was built by Ryan just because we were on a time crunch trying to leave and didn’t have time to order one, solar panel is one from catch which we would not recommend sorry it doesn’t pull near as much power as what it advertised
Hi there, nice review, I am considering a root top tent for my longer trips with my partner, this unit looks nice but the summer temp up there really worries me. can I ask, who did you get to make your mattress please? Also you mentioned the condensation mat, I have not heard of these but depending on what they look like I think this will solve my issue when i travel alone and take out the passengers seat and set up my bed inside my GQ, I hate waking up to a damp interior. Would you say it removed the condensation completely or just a small percentage? Thanks again.
Hey mattress is through bcf, got it measured to the size of the tent, we got a condensation mat from anaconda we got it during our travels as we were starting to get mould on our bed sheets but it stopped that and removed most condensation but still would get a little bit but heard it’s better than most tents. Our friends have lots of different brands of tents and we believe the bush company is best quality
Hi team .. great review .. just came across you vid .. ben on the road for 3 months and have to agree with the mattress is not comfy.. Thinking of changing mattress.. I hear you have to go through BCF for the slumberest .. Did it take long and if you don’t mind me asking how much it cost .. much appreciated
Hey from memory it took between a 3-6 weeks pretty sure ours didn’t take that long, you will definitely have the best sleeps after getting a new mattress really made things so much better
It’s the perfect temperature usually passed 5pm once that sun starts to go especially with the fan, we don’t struggle to sleep at night but getting woken up by the sun usually about 7am

Does it cool down at night quickly once the direct sun light disappears?

How did u guys mount it to the roof of the cruiser?
Ryan’s got a forklift at his work
What racks have you put the tent on
I made the racks all custom built to fit the tent
