Nice go-nogo decision. Better to be on the ground... yup! I'd have probably flown in that wind; it looked pretty steady and those wide open spaces means it'll be laminar a 100 meters up. Faster too though so I'm sure not judging your call. Try kitting. If you can kite, you can fly. Might not be fun though! :) Smooth skies. Thanks for the Atom 80 info.
I was still pretty new back then and I find that I push the envelope more with the more experience that I gain with myself and my equipment. I'm sure I would have flown that day with the extra time that I have built up now. I enjoy flying low too much and the rotor that would be generated isn't ideal for that. No problem on the atom 80 info. I love the fact that this tiny engine gets you in the sky and you have to work for every foot of altitude. 2 years in and no complaints about noise either is a bonus and a tribute top the old atom.
Good tips on the Atom. If you decide to look for a new throttle, check out 'off grid aviation'. I switched a few years ago and it works great especially the cruise control.
Great video. I'm really interested in this sport. I have a bit of time in ground school and am also a Canadian so hence the interest in your channel. I am hoping to one day buy an Atom 80 mainly because of the quietness but not sure if being 180 pounds is a problem. Is the Moster 185 that much louder?
I have no personal experience with the Moster but I've flown with people that use them. They are definitely louder with a more aggressive tone. I was flying last year out of the glider club field and disappeared behind a stand of trees. The owner of the property got worried and thought I went down because of how quiet it was. I've flown with a personal bare weight of 165 in the winter with full winter gear and I can manage 3-400 feet per minute on a 23 meter wing. It's not breaking any records but it's more than enough for casual flying. I really love the simplicity of it and feel like I'm exploring flight for the first time right alongside the Wright brothers.

Hello!
Was enjoying your vid, but after 10 minutes, the LOUD weird music finally tested my last nerve, you might want to re-edit...
I've had a similar comment before. Duly noted. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!
