well the real deal at the acr is the extreme track setup. you just cant compare the time from this m4 gts to another m4 time driven on another day. the temperature can already have a decent influence on lap times especially for turbo charged cars

So BMW figured it out! By bringing the power up with an extra 50 horse power and costs 50 thousand more that the regular M4. That is a thousand dollar for every pony and with a screaming lap time difference with a 2:03 seconds than the M4 🤔
The AMG gts is shaped like a sport car, the M4 is not. It's a normal sedan with powerful engine and better suspension. The AMG gts was specifically designed to be fast. Which the M4 specifically wasn't. But also to be fast.

I doubt the GT350R hast he road manner to win overall, it did poorly in Car and Drivers Lightning lap which suggests you need a pro driver to get really good times. A good drivers car wont require that. If anything I think the normal GT350 would have a better chance

Theyre attempting to compare very "focused" cars that all present their own "distinct" driving style that differs from most....something a rich car enthusiast would pay a reasonable amount for....and if theyre rich...w.e defines reasonable would be a rare production performer....still theyre are better classics lying around for the pickings of all makes and types which would be a far better investment from a monetary standpoint/value retention....or a driving experience standpoint as well esp if the few 5-10 cars of these lists in the past 10 years havent had cars that are now "attainable" in regards to their value to some people i would say that would be when to strike on a newer car...its my outlook

Turbo, twin-clutch vs V8 NA, manual. I don't see too many points in the BMW's favour. It's supposed to be an enthusiast's track car yet it's slower, has a less enjoyable turbo engine, has a less enjoyable automatic gearbox, and to top it all off the BMW is much more expensive!

Motor trend just realesed a video on the M4 GTS and he said it is a really good car, and what an M car is supposed to be like. It's a great car. But it doesn't have the island v8 power
I haven't really cared much for bench racing all of the current and latest performance cars since I was 12 or 13 reading Car and Driver and Motor Trend Magazine, but I must say... The fact that the M4 GT-S was beaten by one and a half seconds on the same circuit by a special edition Mustang, which has nothing amazing going for it other than modern (finally) suspension geometry, good chassis/brakes, and a nice V8 at HALF THE PRICE should be an absolute embarrassment to BMW Motorsport.
Why do they do a rolling start? Every car that starts is at a different speed. Not sure how they can get accurate times when they do not start at a dead stop.
Every car gets the chance to leave the last corner as fast as possible and start the lap going as quick as they can. It more closely resembles what a lap time would be in a real race. If they did it from a standing still then you would introduce too many variables associated with the launch (wheel spin, bogged start, etc).
I knew some day American muscle cars would get their shit together on the chassis, brakes and suspension and surpass these expensive European jobbies. They are doing it and for half the cost. I fully expect to hear the age old, "plastic interior", "murica" , "using our technologies"and all the other nonsense but here we see it, you have to get into the $175k to 300K range of European cars to keep up with our Mustangs, Corvettes and Camaros. Hey Europe, American aint just for straight line racing anymore. Suck it!
You cant compare American cars with german cars. You guys just put V8s in everything because they are powerful. The german car manufacturer however are reducing these types of engines because of regulations they get from the government about how environment friendly their cars have to be (why VW cheated with their diesel engines). In the case of the BMW we have a 3.0 liter engine with Turbos which makes roughly the same amount of power as the americans but with the negative points of a turbo and small engine (turbo lagg etc.). Of course there are still manufacturers such as Mercedes with for example the gts (which is faster than the mustang) which put big engines in their cars and they are not slower around the track than the american ones. Of course the difference in price is enormous but you get a much higher quality car. Personally i think the american cars are pretty cool (especially the new Dodge Charger) but i still prefer European or Japanese cars.

I love BMW.. I drive an M5 most days but I have to say... that car is ridiculously overpriced and completely unattainable, only 300 in the states all of which are already sold and you have it up as a best driver's car contender... Suppose it wins "the BMW is the best drivers car this year but none of you can ever hope of driving one since they're all spoken for" doesn't make a lick of damn sense... you would think that in order for a car to be considered, that people would be able to.. oh, I don't know.. actually BUY AND DRIVE the damn thing.
How is this any less attainable than the McLaren, R8, or GT3RS(?) in the same competition? The GTS may be sold out but it's not going to be impossible to get one if you're willing to pay some markup. The Shelby GT350R is also essentially impossible to buy right now, doesnt mean it should be excluded from the test either.

sounds nice, the induction noise verse turbo spooling noise & blow off is a good balance, the exhaust sounds good outside too, the handling is as expected, don't get the mid corner understeer, if they have a package to make the regular m4 , be a step closer to this wihtout the rollcage, it should sell even better. Like the m5 handling package they had a few years back, but it needed it
I love the channel and Randy is the man! But I really dont think you need all of those cameras on the car. A good on board lap camera and possibly a driver cam in split screen would suffice. All of those different camera angles detract from the one that actually matters. The preformance of the car, cornering, acceleration, braking and high speed stability, cant be seen from a rear or side view. It's really annoying when the camera switches to be honest. I can't believe the Shelby 350R is over 1.5 seconds faster than this raced up M4. And that includes Randy screwing up his line in the last turn. Kudos to Ford.
But drives much better :) That is the main point of a good sports car. And not taking shortcuts to higher performance by giving the car almost race spec tires, which has been the main thing with all US sports cars since the crazy Z/28 with world's widest tires.

It provides less down force and more drag than the 99' wing on my RX-7 though. Not rice but not that good either.
I do like a good functional spoiler, but I agree with others that it doesn't fit with the look of the car (like the GT350R's does).
I knew some day American muscle cars would get their shit together on the chassis, brakes and suspension and surpass these expensive European jobbies. They are doing it and for half the cost. I fully expect to hear the age old, "plastic interior", "murica" , "using our technologies"and all the other nonsense but here we see it, you have to get into the $175k to 300K range of European cars to keep up with our Mustangs, Corvettes and Camaros. Hey Europe, American aint just for straight line racing anymore. Suck it!

You cant compare American cars with german cars. You guys just put V8s in everything because they are powerful. The german car manufacturer however are reducing these types of engines because of regulations they get from the government about how environment friendly their cars have to be (why VW cheated with their diesel engines). In the case of the BMW we have a 3.0 liter engine with Turbos which makes roughly the same amount of power as the americans but with the negative points of a turbo and small engine (turbo lagg etc.). Of course there are still manufacturers such as Mercedes with for example the gts (which is faster than the mustang) which put big engines in their cars and they are not slower around the track than the american ones. Of course the difference in price is enormous but you get a much higher quality car. Personally i think the american cars are pretty cool (especially the new Dodge Charger) but i still prefer European or Japanese cars.

I feel the M3 is what the M5 should be with 2 more doors and slightly longer and the M3 should more be like the M2. I really like the M6 though but thats it from BMW right now.
You are not going to buy one these for $66, the mark up is $25k on average. It's collectors car anyone driving one is an idiot if they aren't a sponsored driver.

I love BMW.. I drive an M5 most days but I have to say... that car is ridiculously overpriced and completely unattainable, only 300 in the states all of which are already sold and you have it up as a best driver's car contender... Suppose it wins "the BMW is the best drivers car this year but none of you can ever hope of driving one since they're all spoken for" doesn't make a lick of damn sense... you would think that in order for a car to be considered, that people would be able to.. oh, I don't know.. actually BUY AND DRIVE the damn thing.
How is this any less attainable than the McLaren, R8, or GT3RS(?) in the same competition? The GTS may be sold out but it's not going to be impossible to get one if you're willing to pay some markup. The Shelby GT350R is also essentially impossible to buy right now, doesnt mean it should be excluded from the test either.
The thing is, they can sell it for much more. It is a special edition with 300 units in US after all.

That's strange because there's planets of dealers that are currently selling the GTS. Dealers here at Seattle (Bellevue), California just to name a few places are still selling it. The commentator was probably drunk or knows nothing lol. Embarrassing.

I think the older six's in the BMW's sounded much better. I'm not one for a turbo sound myself, I just prefer an engine with a bit more low end noise, this one is all high.

sounds nice, the induction noise verse turbo spooling noise & blow off is a good balance, the exhaust sounds good outside too, the handling is as expected, don't get the mid corner understeer, if they have a package to make the regular m4 , be a step closer to this wihtout the rollcage, it should sell even better. Like the m5 handling package they had a few years back, but it needed it

I love the channel and Randy is the man! But I really dont think you need all of those cameras on the car. A good on board lap camera and possibly a driver cam in split screen would suffice. All of those different camera angles detract from the one that actually matters. The preformance of the car, cornering, acceleration, braking and high speed stability, cant be seen from a rear or side view. It's really annoying when the camera switches to be honest. Anyway it's just my two cents.

That is the main point of a good sports car. And not taking shortcuts to higher performance by giving the car almost race spec tires, which has been the main thing with all US sports cars since the crazy Z/28 with world's widest tires.
