Being English and living in Australia I have had some wonderful holidays in Sheringham, taken by my cousin who has a home there. You may say "ah Australia they have the best beaches" but I have spent the best and most memorable holidays in Sheringham. Your walk through the town, railway station and seeing familiar shops and landmarks has been a complete joy for me. Thank you for this memorable video.

I will watch this video probably many times! I was born in Heath Road, Sheringham in 1948, but left to come to New Zealand in 1958, I have never been back. But it is true there is no place like home and 62 years later it is still, in many respects, ''Home''.
I well remember the view from the top of Beeston Bump, it was known as Beeston Hill back then, the field between the Bump and the township used to be covered in poppies and on the left side, a young lady kept her horses and ran a riding school, where I learned to ride. I was thrilled to see what appear to be the old railway gates between the old and new stations. We used to ride on them as they opened to let trains pass. It was punishable by a kick up the backside from the local coppers, but worth it! The bridge over the tracks was another great place to be, they were steam trains in those days and you would get covered in dust and soot as the train funnel went under you. We also got on well with the signalman in that signal box.
We used to go home from school, to West Runton on a train called, ''The Norfolkman'' and my brother and I became very adept at getting into the First Class Dining Room and pinching sugar cubes. There are several other things I remember well, my uncle, from London, used to play on the Golf Links each time he came to visit and I can recall sitting watching him play, and making Daisy Chains with my Aunt. I have a permanent reminder of the Golf Club, I tripped over outside the Clubhouse and still have the scar over my eye!
So thank you for this, you made an old Shannock quite nostalgic!

@@amymallett9523 Hello Amy, nice to hear from you. The house I was born in is the little bungalow on the inside of the bend in the road. That was in April 1948. We lived there until I was 5 years old. I have seen the place on Google Earth and it has been extended a bit, with an extra bedroom built on and the garages added but I still recognize it🙂

We are staying near Sheringham this week and today we had lunch at Camellia Tea Shop and then walked to Weybourne on the Coast path, passing the small boating lake (yes it is a boating lake) which had model boats on it, then passing the golf course and the coast watch hut as seen in your video. The walk is about 3 miles to Weybourne car park and the views are tremendous. We did all this because you had featured it in your video - you are doing a wonderful job Tim, thank you so much🥰🥰

My Grandma lived in Sheringham and so we spent every half term there, it’s like a second home. We try to go back every year since she passed as we miss the place so much. The murals of the fishermen on the wall are of real people, especially the man in orange. The Salvation Army play a big part in the town too and the band March and play down the high street into the sea front on Sunday evenings in the summer. Such a beautiful town. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Tim, The holes are made by Lugworm, they make a "U" shaped burrow about 18"deep between the hole and the pile of sand. We Anglers dig for them or use a pump to suck them out to use them a bait to catch fish. There are videos on you tube on Lugworm digging and pumping if you wish to check it out. To me it's now my home town and I love every inch of it and it's lovely, friendly people. As for the Tesco store, I was one of those that opposed it but now, as do many, I do my main shop there every week and because it closeness to the town centre it seems there are far more people using the local shops which I also use especially for seafood and meat. There are 2 butchers shops where you can buy different types of game from pigeon to venison. It truly is the perfect place to live.

Hi Tim that's really strange how you mentioned the Tesco being built in Sheringham. I work at Tesco and it's in a place called Gerrards cross Buckinghamshire they to never wanted a Tesco either. So they to had to build it in keeping with the place it's actually built over a railway line . I love sherringham as does my Husband. We have visited many times .

Fell in love with Sherringham Wells next the Sea Brancastor etc so I really appreciate your efforts and very good filming also as I have a back condition that limits me a lot these days and can't walk far now . @@WalkWithMeTim Lugworms are safe to handle and look a bit like earthworms. For sea anglers they are mainly a winter bait, especially for cod. One of the main summer baits for anglers are ragworms, which have pincers and can give you a nasty nip!

In all the years of living here I've never come across weaver fish at Sheringham, Cromer, Runton etc so I'd not say there was a "problem" with them but beach shoes are always a good idea.
Piles on sand are worm casts
Norfolk doesn't actually have that many golf courses vs other areas although does have some good ones (so I'm told) funny how so many people race about Norfolk being flat 🤣

Nice video, I spent many hours here and in Cromer as a young lad. We used to stay in a cottage in East Runton which would make a good walk for you (ending in West Runton) starting at the beach at the foot of 'The Gap' in the quaint village and going up to the duck pond on the top common passing under 2 amazing railway bridges on the way.
Did you know that Sheringham was bombed by a Zepplin in 1915 making it the first place in Britain to be attacked by Zepplins from the air.
