Before people complain. This rules video is for American casual viewers getting into league. Not your average bloke who’s trynna play footy for the first time. These are just general rules for the game. Not the technical rules .. i enjoyed this n hope it can help Americans better understand our game and enjoy it too
who complaining bud? this ain't a rules video where's the rest of our rules THEN.. we wanna grow OUR GAME rugby league these people gotta play it NOT WATCH IT. eff the viewing play it make it stronger
Maybe so but I still enjoy watching almost like some sort of sense of pride
true I like watching also but playing makes you more into it and apart of rugby league@@dcefai71
@@DavidBulsey he said before lol but I get you mate ha!
wow im glad you mentioned that i dont think anyone would of figured that out.
Now this is how you build the game globally. This is mint and get’s me excited for the NRL season ahead. Lessgoooo
I guarantee you these exhibition matches will make 0 difference to the NRL
Americans do not care about rugby
Exactly!
@@jbone69 they will soon
@@strikerbowls791 if I could, I’d bet my human body / soul against yours that this will end up costing the NRL money - and then after winning I’d use you to promote AFL to nsw and qld
@jbone69 well Americans don't have to care about rugby as much as they do betting on it. I'm telling you I know plenty of Americans who would have a bet on paint drying if it meant they could win some money.
I'm sharing this with everyone I know. I have been in love with the NRL since I discovered it in 2019.
3:45 using Milford for the late tackle example is gold hahaha
Production company behind this, take a bow. this perfectly explains the game to an American audience. I have seen the 'Ah's, 'oh's and 'oooh's. trying to spread it to all the seppos I work with.
I'm an American fan, go Broncos, and for years I've been telling my American Football fans about this sport and how they'd enjoy it. I've gotten few of them to watch this video and now they're going to check out the opening Vegas games and hopefully will watch more throughout the season.
I watched it last night for the first time. I watched a full game too it was the roosters versus the broncos. And I’m a broncos fan now too cuz of Reece Walsh 😂😂😂
@@kyleallen1858 Haha! Welcome to Bronx Nation!
The video editor of this channel needs a raise
Russell is such a great actor because he loves the greatest game.
No wonder he is a part owner of the south Sydney rabbitohs
Didn't know he loved union.
That's nonsense. The two are not related, obviously 😀
@@MrAuskiwi101obviously mate haha it’s called a metaphor
Make this go viral
yup 1000 percent
No let's not because if even a small portion of America adopts the NRL, that's the end of Australian Rugby league...
@@fcukgogle9213 If America starts watching League, the NRL will be better for it.
@@fcukgogle9213 No they will have their own league. Making a sport popular elsewhere doesn't destory in it's home country
@@mitchellsmith300no they won’t it’s America they don’t give a care about anything outside their country.
This is actually a great video to explain to Americans. There is no other video that explains the simple differences between NFL and NRL so well.
I often see TH-camrs liking NRL in their reactions but having no clue on the rules so now they can watch this. Hopefully they play this before the game starts in America aswell.
Guys! Finally! You should have marketed NRL similarities to NFL months ago! But you got there in the end! 🎉
More like years ago
@@dcefai71 Totally. AFL has had theirs out for years.
@@dcefai71 Decades. Literally. Like, since TH-cam began.
What similarities? They both start and end with the same letters and the ball and field are the same shape
@@klikitzsmith8416 they're a lot more similar than they are to Union, AFL or soccer though.
No complaints.Great getting the fundamentals of our game accross to the less versed. And also narrated by the game's greatest ambassador.
Very well explained, I hope they enjoy it!
A very well produced video! This is excellent.
Nicely done Ad and Good Job NRL. Love it!
Americans so lucky to watch this live, hopefully first rl matches of many stateside🏉🏉
Rugby league in Australia: 1908
TH-cam started: 2005
NRL makes explanation video: 2024
“Russell Crowe Explains Rugby League” would be a much cleaner title
I didnt see anything rude?
yeah but i guess if people search “rugby league rules” the video might not come up with that title, so it makes sense to have it this way even if it doesn’t roll off the tongue as nicely
Well done that was pretty good and easy to understand. The Americans will understand the game better now.
Russell didn't just play league he went on to become one of the greatest members of the community and an owner and leader of players whilst doing movies as well great man much respected in our game.
Luke Keary may disagree.
@@LoganInThailand sure but what your rebuttal?
THE BEST INTRO FOR A NEWBY TO THE GREATEST GAME ON EARTH. THANKS RUSSELL AND THE NRL. AMERICA, GET READY.
I❤ Rugby League 🏉 and American 🏈. Superbowl 2024...I can't wait. Peter from Switzerland 🇨🇭
Glad you enjoy it Peter. Be sure to youtube NRL big hits and check out Matt Bowen highlights to see how one of so many Ist Nations people use their unique ability in the game. Enjoy! Sydney, Australia.
Good on you Peter from Switzerland. Awesome
The Greatest game of all
Very basic game, becomes boring after watching it for a year or two.
It's either;
- big oversized guy barges over for a try
- pass, pass, pass, pass, try
- intercept and try
- kick, catch, try
Not very technical, not complex and layered like NFL.
Not 360 degrees, highly skilled and unpredictable as AFL.
Physically tough, but even that gets stale after a while.
@@AZ2PM
Go to bed
@@AZ2PMyou’d rather watch a sport that has 10mins of live ball gameplay than a very competitive, on the fly decision making plays liveball for 40mins. throwing your body at someone isn’t skill and bouncing the ball every 5 steps is whack. play a real game with no protection
Man I was watching this last night for the first time (in Las Vegas) and it was entertaining, especially this player named Reese Walsh? Man he was a stud. Anyways this definitely helps clear up all the confusion I had. I was so confused. Haha especially why they were kicking it from where they were kicking it after a “try”
Part 2 of this should include: 40/20 rule, held up in goal, goal line dropouts, one on one strips, no offloading after ball carrying arm touching the ground , scrum wins against the feed, intercepts, golden point , etc
I agree
Don't mention scrums. This is meant to be promoting the game.
"scrum wins against the feed" yeah i remember the 1980s too
Important note for NFL fans. While they may not pass forward, a KICK forward is a LIVE BALL, and either team can recover it and continue play.
I wish South Africa had a NRL team to compete in the world cup.
What World Cup?
@@jarradmorgan8549 Perhaps he meant to compete with the Springboks in the RU world cup lol.
That'll be cool
I think he means in the NRL as South Africa do have a national side but they're in the third tier system so they just aren't up there & good enough to make a Rugby League world cup
@@weburnitatbothends that’s why it’s bigger internationally than league right?.
Killer job Russell! I know all this but it's still getting me hyped for the season!
The American TH-cam reaction channels will go crazy with this one. Good job Rusty!! 🔥🔥🔥
Best sports promotional video I have ever seen.
Go the mighty Warriors!!!
I grew up with Rugby League in the 80’s, still a great sport today!
this was actually brilliant. Enjoy our game mates
Cough cough.. our game? It's actually an English game
@@stevethedonfulsure it started in England, but so many of the rules originated in Australia. Even the name “rugby league” is Australian
@@stevethedonful ....i am english
Absolutely brilliant, love it and love the attempt at expansion
This has me interested in checking it out. I'll have to look for some matches (or is it games?). Thank you.
Russell Crowe, bring your boots (or we'll find you a pair) and come play masters rugby league in Las Vegas on Friday, March 1st. 3:30 pm at Charlie Frias Park, West #1, 4801 South Decatur Blvd, LV. Canada, Australia, and the first-ever US masters team, and the match officials flying in from England. Immediately following our event is the Canada Wolverines vs USA Hawks men's international, Valley High School, 2839 Burnham Ave, LV, 7:00 pm kickoff.
NRL in Las Vegas? That is so cool! About time Rugby League went big!
Now buy a 30 second slot at the superbowl and advertise it for the Vegas match.
NRL will never be the same
Yep, they would be broke!
This going to be insane for the game if it takes off in America
Fair play - this is mint. Well done NRL.
Rugby League and American Football have the exact same DNA. Both morphed from Rugby Union. League is a simple game which controlled aggression and agility. It’s perfect for people with ADHD. Ball stays on the field more than any of the ball running codes. Rugby League’s innovation has had a major effective on Union. From rules to coaches. I love both. I’ll be in Vegas to see my Manly Sea Eagles live for the first time since I’ve been a fan for 9 years.
You mean all three morphed from Rugby Football. Rugby Union isn't the original, rugby football was.
Up da Wahs 🙌🏼
Up da Waaaaahhhss!
This is an awesome promo!!!
This is very helpful!
This is so good!
Its' a Gladiators game! Basic rules is the first process of learning Rugby League.
Even casuals would appreciate this.
Great advert and what a voice!
The opportunity is an advertisement during and at the Super Bowl tomorrow
This is a fantastic video explaining our game. Not too much detail so that it becomes overwhelming. Just the basics and a little bit in how it compares to NFL. Well done NRL for this video. I hope the USA really get on board. I hope the refs stay out of the games as much as possible and let the games flow. We shall see.
Nicely done. See you in Vegas!
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!?
Meilleure ligue de rugby au monde 🇨🇵🇨🇵
ma foi. vive le rugby a treize en france
Go the Pia Donkeys
Great video!
I'll be there !!
Probably should've dedicated a bit of time to explain that League is different than Union. Americans tend to not know the difference (it doesn't help that our Rugby competition, MLR, has "league" in the name but is actually Union)
Awesome add
Great job Russell ❤
This is an excellent video for explaining the basics of Rugby League (southern hemisphere style, sorry Northern England) to a USA 🇺🇸 audience.
Honestly good job on the video
Well explained ❤❤
Thank you!!! Now that i know the rules ima go enjoy watching a match!!!
What’s the song in this clip😮💨
Thanks Maximus!
Awesome ad well done
Should have played at Super Bowl halftime!
hmmh i going to start watching , this useful
I was raised on league and this got me puuumped 🍻
"This is a scrum... Nothing actually happens and they kind of just lean on each other but we split off from a different game and realised scrums were too complicated for our players and fan base so we dumbed it down a bit; while we for them to remember how to lean on each other lets play half a dozen betting adverts back-to-back for you" - Wugby!
League scrums are just twelve blokes trying to social distance.
Scrums are nothing more than creating the advantage of space and the ability to run (or set up to run) a set play. They cop hate but I think they still play a good role. Who doesnt want a 20m scrum, surely thats a try at least 33% of the time
Don't they go and have a rest there?
Lets Go!!!
Very well done 🦘🦘🦘🦘🤘🤘😎
Message to the NRL: Love Jon Jones, great bloke. He got on great with the NRL boys, which I dang loved. Aspinall is awesome too. The NRL should invite Jones to come watch the NRL champion versus the English champion game when it comes around, where Aspinall can support the English side. ✌😄 Should invite Jones to the championship game here, too.
I’d love to hear Crowe commentate a South’s game 🤙🏽
This is pretty awesome.
They should have had more of felise kafousi big hits in this promo from the 2023 season
The Greatest Game of All. Explained. Well done Russell .
Forgot to mention if the play goes out of bounds. That’s also an important concept.
The only rules missing is the line drop out,the 20/40 kick rule,off-side rule,20 metre Tap rule and Down town rule.
Up the riff, going for 4
I love your voice Russell ❤
Didnt mention that a lot of the shown hits are now illegal.
I hope the youtube algorithm is working to suggest these videos to Americans and not back at us here😂
Russell, what about the 40/20? You did a fantastic comparison with both codes apart from that…. I hope it can be fixed
The Bunker needs to this vid asap
😂😂😂
I'm from Wigan. Played rhe game at junior & high school. Rugby is synonymous with the town. They've took rugby away from a lot of primary schools as it's too dangerous. Ridiculous. I loved playing rugby for my school team & local amateur sides
loved the promo but the NRL hates big hits until they use them to sell the game 😅
Lol exactly like the NFL
Main thing is not to put the American game down, that will have the yanks backs up staraight away. Pads, helmets, time of game etc
funny how nrl says we can't and don't have technology to rule on forward passes but then at 3:00 for the americans you show you CAN rule on them. start doing it.
also have russell do the grand final opening monologue
Americans gona see why we feel rugby league is the best sport ... so happy that the Americans will get to see a live NRL game
Aus to be the best, only compete against ourselves.
What about the rules the Panthers play by?
Please explainnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!
This man’s voice sounds like the youtuber I did a thing’s voice
best field/ball sport on earth. Love this game!!
Can imagine how you can't be the best when you compete against yourself.
Dont forget the REFS , they are the MVPS!!!!
100%. No ref, no game.
😅
NFL is only 17 minutes only actual play time as opposed to at least 70 minutes play time for rugby
Just FYI NRL you should really get Tom Grossi, Brandon Perna or Urinating Tree to do a reaction or pod cast with this material.
What’s the Tottenham Hotspur of the NRL
So only about 5 or six teams in the comp by the looks of it, glad we allowed souths back.
True! I'm Parra so didn't expect much but hardly any Panthers either since they are reigning champs. But i think it's mainly Souffs, Manly, Chookies & Bronx coz they're the 4 teams playing over there
@@Tully_23_32I think Penrith is going to England around that time
Tackles = downs? So does the offense get 6 tackles only for marching down the field before getting the try? Does the tackle counter reset and if so when?
Cool video. The hits seem nuts (no helmet either) but not allowing it when you don’t have the ball negates a lot of concussions I bet.
Resets when the opposing team gets possession of the ball. You have 6 tackles to attempt to score a try. If you fail this it's a handover, so the opposing team gets the ball.
Thanks Ben. 6 attempts to move the ball downfield seems really hard. I understand the counter resets when possessions change but looks like in a single offensive possession the counter doesn’t reset? In football terms, when you get a first down the downs reset and it’s back to 1st and 10 and the offense gets 4 more shots to get 10 yards. In rugby you get 6 tackles to go the length of the field?
@@ktuluflux yep! 6 tackles for the length of the field. But due to how dynamic possession changes can be it's not always the case that you get possession right back at the end of the field. Example the opposing team could drop the ball 10 meters out from their line so then you'd have 6 tackles to move 10 meters. Or if you hold the opposing team back only 20-30 meters out from their line on the 6th tackle the handover happens where the last tackle was, so then you'd have 6 tackles to go the other way that same 20-30 meters. That's why players kick on the last tackle for field position. Better to boot it to the opposition 40+ meters further out from your current position so the opposing team have a further distance to run with their 6 tackle set. Definitely watch the Vegas games, it'll make sense :)
@@ktuluflux There can be re-sets for penalties by the defender (each team will probably get 2-3 or so per half) and as the vid showed, you can get a re-start on the run for minor defender infringements (maybe 1-3 of these per half).
Without getting too much into detail, if the defending side plays at the ball - say by batting down a pass - the ball will still be live for the attacker who gets a re-set.
If they bat it back toward their goal line the ball will be live for both sides and whoever can jump on it first.
This is probably a major difference to NFL, the ball is live in many more circumstances; incomplete passes, fumbles and a ball kicked in general play is live for both sides.
Thanks David. I’m gonna check out the game for sure!
Rule 1 - 3/4 Empty stadiums in all Sydney games .
Well promoted by the legend and the owner of the Souths Sydney Rabbitohs Club.
Don't forget about the 40 20
