Some folks might mock the "Old" stuff but here is an example if it aint broke don't fix it. My Dad has used regular ol Turtle Wax liquid that you can buy over the counter. He has been using it since forever. My Mom has a 2001 Lexus IS300 they bought new in 2001. Its a pearl white, and my Dad applies the Turtle Wax at the beginning of each Season, so 4 times a year. 21 years later my Mom's car still looks new and is all original paint. Its just a testament of not what you use, but how often you use it. You like a product? Just use it, and use it often.
Just a few issues as a guy running a waterless wash business in the UK never ever do swirling motion even with a wet wash with shampoo second the bits around the lights and groves etc use a detailing brush like you would with a wash also use as a mist spray not on jet cover the whole panel first wipe one way then buff off 👍 I'm fully booked for weeks to come as a business it's so cost effective and game changer
Swirls aren’t circular, they’re tightly-knit straight scratches that appear circular in direct light so it makes no difference which motion you use. I agree that with a decent rindless wash or more watery waterless wash you should saturate the panel first but this thick, old school stuff only streams so can’t really do that.
@@CarCleaningGuru true I've used the thick stuff before but always as a mist spray plenty out there that does it some really good products out there I'm currently in the process of making my own branded stuff 👍
I originally bought a bottle of waterless wash and wax to keep in the boot for quickly removing bird poo. After finding it did a great job I started using it as a weekly maintenance wash at lunchtime at work (whatever day has the best weather). I can get the car done in 20 mins now (using about 20 towels). Now I only wet wash the car properly once a month.
clear coat is quite soft (also depending on manufacturer .. there's quite some differences) and gets scratched easily. that's the simple basics. however, what maybe gets a little overlooked is, that clear coat isn't always the "last" surface (most is the times, it isn't). or in other words, how "safe" it is to use such products strongly depends on how you "preconditioned" your car. a little layer of wax can "fight" off small dust particles that would otherwise swirl up the paint. but it's in itself not very "hard" (but has the ability to "cure" itself, so it'll never show any signs of swirls on its own) and will get wiped away somewhat quickly. more modern polymer sealants are harder and also come off harder, i.e., lasting longer. and if you happen to have gotten you car ceramic coated, then you also don't need to worry about swirls anymore (for years to come, that is). same goes for wraps or clear bras. just saying. so like I've read in comments here: if you got a decent new vehicle, live in a water restricted area and still wanna keep it squeaky clean without worrying too much, you might just think about a ceramic coating. it's a one time thing, basically .. but gives you peace of mind.
I believe many of those products have their place and their limitations. I've used thrm on work vehicles for one.. already swirled and scratched so no major concern there and they're certainly cleaner afterwards!
I’m an autoglyum fan and always have been (Dad used it, I just carried on) but I have had some of the Williams Waterless Wax for some time as a present and I think it’s fine (Weekend Warrior Only) gives a really nice shine even on a White Car. What I will say that maybe defeats the object is I always wash it first.
Been using waterless for years started with williams didn't like the smell then King of sheen the best I've used and recommend is Pearl Advanced ultra nano
Don't think I could persuade myself to go fully waterless. During the hosepipe ban I've been using a bucket with Optimum No-Rinse in it, which seems to work pretty well. This is only for dust and rain spots, though. I've not had to clean off any mud for a few months but once or twice the road film has been heavy so a pre-spray of citrus does the trick. Great video, though. A bit of a thinker, this one. Cheers!
I have seen these waterless wash and wax products for as long as I can remember, I have always been sceptical about using such products through fear of causing scratches or swirl marks?. I may consider adding these to my arsenal after seeing this great video! I would most likely use these in the summer heatwaves when it’s just light dust on the car and when there’s a hosepipe ban.
I've used Williams carpet and upholstery cleaner for a while and it's pretty decent to be fair. Impressed with the waterless wash & wax results here so might give it a go when my ONR runs out. Thanks Guru 👍
Next time you have to try out Horst Fuchs' WS Platinum Paint protection, which was a liquid wax that was advertised as wax-free and long lasting up to a year, in the demo they fried eggs on a hood, put a hood on fire, poured hydrochloric acid on it, fired a gun at the hood.. Looking back I think i'd try that product of 2006!
I've recently used some Tripple Wax equivalent. Quite watery (dark green in colour) but also quite cheap. I admit, given the cheapness, I did soak each panel with product, gently wiped off then buffed with a fresh microfibre. I've been quite impressed. There is definitely a slight filling quality with the Tripple Wax product because the gloss black window surrounds looked almost swirl free afterwards (didn't last long to be fair). Not sure I'd used on a heavily soiled car though. Save water - yes - time? Not so sure cos I think you'd want to clean more often to avoid heavy soiling. I found the whole process quite rewarding in a way, no hoses or buckets - more like polishing furniture than cleaning a car. Great video as always.
Brilliant, thank you. You seemed to put the stuff on quite thickly which probably means more lubricant to coat gritty particles. Would be interesting to know how much you used for 1 clean of 1 car.
Iv used Williams waterless wax for years on my cars and it’s great the other is the same product but watered down a little as I knew the presenter off the shopping channel that represented williams racing
Me too. 85% of washes have been with Williams but I always rinse with hydroshot first. Only place where swirls are visible is the bonnet but I believe that to be because my bonnet is virtually horizontal and I have rushed with clothes on some occasions. (I've had the vehicle from new for 4 years. One front end repair so it could of been them)
I’ve tried the Williams’ one long years ago, got it as a “gift”, but it quite surprised me, as it was better than I initially expected, mainly used it up after a contact wash… 😄 The main thing is that here, it doesn’t matter what you’d get to use Joe, you have the ability to clean anything properly. Lots of folks could have the best and most expensive, efficient, etc. equipment, tools and chemicals, but you still would do a much better job than them - even if you can use only a piece of dogsh*t. 😉🤜🏻💥🤛🏻😎
I hope I wasn't the only one giggling every time you squirted that stuff, what an unfortunate combo of spray pattern, colour and consistency. Looks like these would be ideal for my white 2012 MX-5 though as it doesn't get very dirty and doesn't really show paint marks. Also for my black Freelander which is hopeless anyway.
I think the best rule of thumb for waterless wash products, they should only be used for the most minor of filth. Really, only where a proper wash isn't possible. For example, for cleaning off the dust picked up on the drive to a cars and coffee or similar event.
five years ago, we'd have probably laughed at autocorrect .. but meanwhile, I got so used to it that it even took me a while to even, umm, "not" figure. (our brain kinda acquired an autocorrect fail correct, in some sense, lol).
My understanding is that these products cause a good bit of swirls and scratches, but the carnauba acts as a filler so the paint looks glossy immediately after. But once the wax comes off, the paint will show its true colors. Am I thinking about this the right way?
yeah the waterless wash and wax stuff that's been passed around quite a lot are actually fairly decent, it's good for a basic spruce-up quick clean, it also works really well for a wet spray on buff in dry off waxing, it's not as good as a dedicated wash or a ceramic, but it certainly does a decent job.
I like Meguiars waterless stuff - usually either keep a bottle of that to hand, or local North Western company Chrome Detailing Quick Detailer to tackle dreaded bird muck between regular wet washes. I love the QD for doing glass too, especially the inside of the windscreen - the only product I've found so far to do such a good job.
@@MKRM27 What part of my comment constitutes swirl marks? Did I say I regularly use it on my entire car? No. I'd much rather have swirls anyway, that I can polish out, than bird muck left on the car to eat in to the lacquer and paint. Moron.

Get in 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 15 seconds and I was on it like a Honda bonnet.
I expected this to be just as bad as the dodgy detailing products

I’m an autoglyum fan and always have been (Dad used it, I just carried on) but I have had some of the Williams Waterless Wax for some time as a present and I think it’s fine (Weekend Warrior Only) gives a really nice shine even on a White Car. What I will say that maybe defeats the object is I always wash it first.
