Why did the tg5-7 downgrade from the tg4 from 16mp to 12? For those of us who shoot creatures under 1cm, it makes a big difference. I just bought three tg 6 cameras because I gave up waiting for the tg7. I hope they made a better housing than the tg5's.
I own a tg6 and i use it for underwater macro video and its awesome. one thing i was hoping and waiting for a long time to see on the tg7, was an increase of fps from 30 to 60 for 4k video and maybe 1080 @ 120 fps, but that didn't happen. i don't see the need for me to upgrade and i'm very disappointed.
i was excited at first until they said it still had the same ole 12 mp sensor, my TG 5 takes very nice rich photos but if you try to crop them they get fuzzy quick.
All of these "modes" are discussed. I wonder - do they make any difference for someone who will only ever shoot in RAW? Also, is there a truly manual setting, where I can set the ISO, shutter speed, and aperture myself?
No the tg7 still doesn’t offer a manual mode. This is the feature that most tg shooters wanted for a long time but unfortunately om systems still won’t give us that.
Hmm imho, I think getting a GoPro 11 would be a better choice with better features and a slightly bigger sensor. I've had Tough 3 for years and a new sensor would be a nice upgrade for Tough 7; image quality looks almost identical to TG-3...
My Tg-6 got water behind the lense and inside the components destroying it, right when the warranty was up to. This was in less that a foot of water for not an extended time. Maybe it's because the water was warm?😢 It's such an awesome camera I'm thinking of buying another. I'll definitely be more careful in water if I do.
I really wish Olympus would bring back the flip up screen. I had an older model of their tough series and the flip up screen made underwater photos and selfies a dream 😢
Just a little question. Regarding timelapse's does it provide the possibility to record also the RAW images. Think the previous model one didn't... Friendly greetings and thank you for this video.
Currently there is no information from Olympus regarding to the TG-7 in time-lapse shooting, whether it shoots raw at the same time. Chances are as most point shoots do not work that way, that it does not.
Currently full information has not been released by Olympus regarding to the TG-7 in time-lapse shooting and manual settings. Later they should release that information. @@edwarddebruyn8717
how did you process the raw files? was the review only shot with jpeg? it looks like no software can open the files since the profile isn't available. even in Olympus's own software.
Thanks for the great info, i am using the fuji xp130 on the beach metal detecting looking for a camera with a little more wide angle lens, what are your commendation thats new Sub.
If you can find a good used TG-6 buy it. I have the TG-6 and it is a great little camera. The TG-7 has the same sensor and True Pic VIII processor. The camera might have been updated but not improved.
@georgeeharrison4293 I completely agree, I've had my tg-6 for a year or so now and it's amazing. I watched this video to see if it would be worth upgrading but definitely not, unless the very few and minor changes are needed, which for me they aren't. It does look like a wonderful camera if it's a first tg tough for someone, or an upgrade from a much earlier tg series camera, but it seems the tg-6 is almost identical to the tg-7. I bet preloved tg-6 cameras will come down in price now 😊
@@TT8MM1 It's a camera with a plastic cover on the lens. Of course it's going to flare, especially when it's exposed to water, like it's designed to do. Sometimes marketing BS is just so egregious that it's go to be called out.
Does it except the same accessory lenses that fit on the TG-4? Given that the sensor and lens are the same I would hope so. You didn't even mention the accessory lenses. You can literally change them underwater because they just snap on the front of the camera.
Can B&H get a review with an experienced underwater photographer. I know these things have also been made a catered towards Recreational SCUBA Photographers. There are some detailed reviews of the TG-5 and TG-6 but few of the TG-7 for underwater.
Previously tough cameras also found buyers who only needed a camera they could use on a rainy day not go diving or use in swimming pools. That's why makers such as Fuji have dropped out of the tough camera scene.
Missed opportunity. They should have added 4k60 min to keep pace with basic specs. Also, no mention of video autofocus engine. These companies need to isolate the processor for this as NO ONE has solved this. It is 2023 but I get the battery issues with dual processing.
I recommend a GoPro Hero. I have owned the TG-4 and 2 Heroes. Trust me on this. The Hero will hold up very well underwater, while the TG will have you worried.
Hard pass. I have the TG-6 and the image quality is awful compared to my GoPro or cell phone. Only advantage is the optical zoom, but the image quality is so poor that really isn't enough for me to get another...
Very disappointed with OM system! After so many years not even a better sensor or better resolution. Totally not worth the upgrade from the TG-6. Release the 8 .
Disappointing. I really was hoping for the ability to select a full range of f-stops, shutter priority, provision for an external mic, better internal mic, better flash, better zoom (though the 25-100mm equivalent range of the TG-6 is very close to my most used pro lens), a faster lens (in bad weather it is usually dark), a better sensor (my phone images can be cropped / enlarged more), a flip screen. Any 1or 2 of the above improvements would have prompted me to upgrade from my TG-6. As it is the TG-7's only notable for costing more than an almost absolutely identical TG-6. For me, the TG-6 or 7 is only good for a SHTF snapshot camera.
Beyond dissapointed with OM system. What they've done with the TG-7 it's embarassing. A perfect clone of the TG-6. Release the TG-8 already and spare the humiliation
No reason to upgrade ... 👎 i already have the TG5 and i think about the TG6 ... long Time nothing new and now the TG7 with almost the same Features 🥱😂 the Autofocus of the TG5 is bad and i have many problems with that... i wait for so long time for a 4K60 Kamera and than i buy a Gopro 8 and 11, the quality is much better but no zoom Lens, you can only crop in, but this is better this way than to buy a new TG Kamera, no thanks 🥱 🙋
What adventure will you take the OM System TG-7 on?

AAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!
I have the TG-4. I've been waiting for more than 12 megapixels for about SIX frikkin' years!
Soo, I'll just be sticking with my TG4 still...if they upgraded the sensor and processing it might be worth considering but this is no new camera!
pentax will soon have the WG-8, might be better... who knows
Is the TG-7 just a rebranded TG-6 or did they actually change anything other than the USB port and a few software changes?
Strange right, how many years has it been, and no real up grades -
I'm so dissapointed 🥲 Not even a better sensor.
same dog different leash. Shame on OM

In the same boat, also wish there was a better way to focus lock, really hard to do it with one hand or even both hands
i was excited at first until they said it still had the same ole 12 mp sensor, my TG 5 takes very nice rich photos but if you try to crop them they get fuzzy quick.
how you configure de shutter? 01:49

I expected a bigger sensor and better video specs but this camera has same sensor and specs since my tg5 2017
I bought this camera but there is no construction option on my menu. Do I have to do any firmware update or something?
Hmm imho, I think getting a GoPro 11 would be a better choice with better features and a slightly bigger sensor. I've had Tough 3 for years and a new sensor would be a nice upgrade for Tough 7; image quality looks almost identical to TG-3...
What type of charging cube does it require?? Since it says sold separately
Still no exposure bracketing or Shutter priority mode.
what are black and white photos like?

Also a big help for the ultra close Macro function.
Yeah me too, but it was an issue, the connection would break and poof, the screen is black and camera gone. Have 2 of those at home 😢
My screen broke too and i sent it in twice to have it fixed only for it to break ahain out of nowhere
Just a little question. Regarding timelapse's does it provide the possibility to record also the RAW images. Think the previous model one didn't...
Friendly greetings and thank you for this video.
And does it allows full manually settings in time-lapse mode, think it's mentioned but not clear for me
?
I know the previous models have raw, so I'll throw my guess to yes.

This camera only shoots in JPEG files.
This dude "off the grid" in central park...lol.
Awesome & Thanks :)

long time ago fuji xf10 sensor apsc size
”produces high resolution stills and video without flare or ghosting” proceeds to show videos with horrible flare and completely washed out blacks.
I don't think they know what they're talking about
The previous cameras had a terrible flare hot spot in the centre of the images, with no sun in the scene. Assume not fixed then
Lol
@@TT8MM1 It's a camera with a plastic cover on the lens. Of course it's going to flare, especially when it's exposed to water, like it's designed to do. Sometimes marketing BS is just so egregious that it's go to be called out.
You're a washed out black

Yes, the TG-7 works with the Olympus CLA-T01 Conversion Lens Adapter, the LG-1 Macro ring light and the lenses that work with the lens adapter.
Does anyone know what the app is called?
The app is called OM Image Share.

Will it fit and work with TG6 underwater housing?
yes because this is TG-6. only more expensive.
Does the lens scratch like on the TG-5?

I definitely need a camera for underwater and swimming, next Xmas holiday in Greece or Canarian Islands.
I wouldn't trust it for full underwater. They do make a housing for it though.
this might be the camera for you then!

I miss so much selfie option from older models😢😢

so its literally TG-6 with higher price.
Olympus was a great camera maker.
OM System… what a disappointment
Soooo... there's basically nothing interesting over the TG-5, is it?
A tg 6. Nothing new on the stills side.
OMG this camera looks terrible on all the video parts. How is this $550?
that 4k....is worse than my samsung phone from3 years ago
Nice camera but battery do not last that long. Battery dies within a year.
Interesting possibility for travel, including street photography with that lens.
Beyond dissapointed with OM system. What they've done with the TG-7 it's embarassing. A perfect clone of the TG-6. Release the TG-8 already and spare the humiliation
