I've lived in China for a number of years and used to see this type of dancing everywhere. People gather to have fun and it's also a good form of exercise. What's even funnier is that you could be walking into a large square and then you'd see so many different groups dancing to different tunes of music. But if you stood in certain areas then you could hear 3 or 4 tunes being played at once but yet, the dancers were only tuned to a single tune

Asian shuffle dance is quite a bit slower and much more relaxed than the USA style. Also, when performed by a large group it reminds me of Country Line dancing
The foot that stays on the floor is doing double time, it's this that's giving the shuffle effect. So just count the beats as a 1-2 3-4 5-6 7-8 instead of 1 2 3 4 to keep coordination.
They make it look so easy and relaxing, but it must require quite a high level of fitness and there's so many steps to remember,,, I'm so envious cos I've tried and can't get past the most basic steps without finishing up on the floor in a tangle of legs
