Steinway D from 1887, full restoration, first impressions - more to come.

To my knowledge this is the only surviving Steinway D built between 1884 and 1892 that still is in its original condition. It has carefully been restored (not rebuilt, refurbished or completely stripped of its innards.)
Original set of hammers, original 1887 action. Fully intact original bridges, carefully refined shellac surface, one-piece ivory keys (with CITES certification) and two outstanding oddities: a capo bar that extends to G3 and bridge pins at an angle of 25/30° which result in each string of a unison having a different speaking length.
It's still in the process of settling doen to a new environment and will need a substantial number of tunings for the strings to get into an equilibrium before one can start working on the hammers to give it back its original voice.
