Naughty Dog wasn't joking about this game being about hatred. You could feel every ounce of it through the story, the gameplay, and even the visuals. You captured it perfectly in this.

This game is an emotional masterpiece...i get the anger of haters..the scene made me angry as hell too..but that’s what the game wanted..to evoke that rage in you and experience the transition of Ellie’s emotions

People didn't hate the game because Joel died lol. They hated the game because Joel and Tommy, after rescuing a complete stranger, decided to say "Hey, I'm Joel, and this is my brother Tommy. I have no clue who you guys are or why you're so close to our home but we live right down the way here, maybe you've seen the city?" Joel and Tommy weren't supposed to be "good people." Ellie makes a point of this throughout the story, too. Joel's death was shitty and retarded. Also, why exactly did Tommy take off without Ellie knowing she would just follow him anyway? Doesn't he know her? lol

It's really hard to empathize with someone if the game never actually gave you a reason to. I mean, I actually liked Abby because she was funny and I loved her relationship with Lev but never once did I empathize with her. We were never allowed inside her thoughts like we are with Ellie and her journal but never Abby. Also I think one of the reasons why people are upset with Abby is because Abby was never forced to watch her father die but Ellie was. That rage stayed with the players for 20+ hours. It's really hard to see Abby's side of the story if we're still on Ellie's side.
I don't hate this game but I do want a novelization of it so I can understand it more because I feel there is so much story just cut out.

Someone said they hated the game because the deaths had no weight, but the deaths were realistic, instant and almost no build up, personally I had to pause the game after Jessie got shot because it had a lot of weight, the more real the deaths were the more I felt like I was actually losing a friend in front of me

Love the cuts from Abby saying "You killed all my friends" leading up to Ellie shouting "You're gonna fucking die!" And cuts to her killing all of Abby's friends. Was really emotional and epic, well done!

This was amazing! Say what you will about the story, the characters, but this edit just showed off so much of what made the game great (imo). You're prob the only one I've seen to include Abby in a way that doesn't just imply she's the villain and (love her or hate her) it captures the intent Naughty Dog had in showing that everyone's human and the heroes of their own stories by using Ellie and Abby as parallels to one another. Awesome job
Only thing they wanted was to include as much hate and agenda in their story so kids don't have a second thought on ending someone's life cause it's justified by their means at the end.... Just violence with no consequences.
This is bloody brilliant. You captured it. As someone who has survived trauma I can honestly say this game was difficult to play through. I loved the game, but playing it was hard.
I loved it only on my second run because on my first run all I could feel was Ellie’s anger, guilt, and regret because those are my feelings toward my parents.
The game hit home. Neil and Halley knocked it out of the park. They tackled something extremely mature in ways that were daring and downright painful.
But they were honest to the core.
If you didn’t like it, I respect your opinion (sans the misogyny crap) because it’s hard to understand what Ellie feels.
However, I think the story does a bang up job at putting you in her shoes. You just have to allow yourself time to grieve Joel before your tackle the second half of the game.

Mom found out I was gay and she put me in a public school where I flourished socially.
However, I was then beat physically on occasion and verbally assaulted regularly at home by my mother for 4 years from 9th grade until graduation when I finally left for college.
I struggle with suicidal ideation. Depression. Generalized anxiety. Social awkwardness. An inability to feel like I belong with the rest of humanity.
I am very empathetic however, I just don’t see myself fitting into any tribe.
Stand up for that bullied kid in school. Befriend them. They need the kindness or they will either go postal or kill themselves or lead a miserable existence.
Very few are successful afterwards.
People create the evil they often relegate to demons. The only demonic entity I know is indifference to human suffering.

That's the thing, I was pretty sure that we were going to end up playing as Abbyat some point as soon as we switch to her in the first act. And from then on until I actually got to play her in a full act of story I was kind of dreading it.Specifically because stories that switch between main characters on opposite sides of a conflict almost never do it well.
in fact, I'm fairly certain this was the first one to actually succeed in my experience.
Not only did I not think that Abby would work as a secondary protagonist, I honestly didn't think that they would succeed in making me care about her at all as a character.
I was wrong.
I love Ellie as a protagonist. she's easily a stand out as far as video game characters go in general. But Abby was way more interesting.
As I said, I love Ellie. and I'm glad that her ending more or less worked out for her. But I'm really looking forward to a potential sequel where you play as Lev, or Abby, or Abby and Lev... If that's the direction they decide to go in

We all see Joel and Ellie as the heroes but if the game started with Abby and her dad and just Joel showing up there and doing what he did (saving Ellie/killing Abby’s dad) I’m pretty sure we would have different outlook on the game
The hero in our story is villain in someone else’s story
Joel was hero in Ellie’s story And in Abby’s story he was the villain
Just love this game, just how the hatred,the revenge and everything about this game makes you feel, could also be the fact that this game is my favourite because I used to play this game with my siblings back in 2013-2014 and it’s my core memory with my siblings , we played it 24/7 before school after school we usually woke up early just to play it but still got to school late cus we got so hooked to the game

This game is the personification of the concept that we all think that we are the hero in our own story. Naughty Dog is so god damn brilliant that they made us realize that the protagonist from part 1 was the real bad guy all along. And this edit is absolute perfection.

When he brought her to the fireflies, he didn't know she would die because of the vaccine, and he refused to do this but the fireflies refused to give her back, so he did what needed to be done in order to save her,

This game was literally so real and raw that it made a very clear divide in the gaming community. Gamers were not ready for a story as brutal and powerful as this one. At least a lot of people weren’t. I definitely was. And then it had gameplay and production quality that was a rich as the story itself. This game is absolutely the best game I’ve ever played or even heard or seen of. Like RDR2 is absolutely amazing and probably my next favorite game after this but that game didn’t have the quality or as rich of gameplay as this one. This game was just something else
Overall, besides Joel's death and being forced to play Abby for too long ( to my liking ) the game was brilliant. It doesn't deserve all the bashing it gets. Thank you for this masterpiece, definitely my fav vid of tlou and tlou 2 combined!

I believe this sensation that it was too long comes from the surprise of it all... you keep wanting to rush trought it to find out whats going to happen. This problem disappears after your second playthrough.
But she did have the best part of the gameplay tho. Flame thrower. Rat king. Scars. Best cutscenes of the game when she was captured. It was super exciting and chill because there wasn’t really an “exciting” motive set yet. I love the game but having to go back for Lev was just tedious and not the “excitement” I wanted lol , but that runaway from the camp is my personal favorite. Her part honestly is the best. Ellie had the best storyline but Abby had the best play style and gameplay. At least to me.

Absolutely perfect transitions/parallels in this one. Pacing was amazing throughout the whole thing. Thought it was so clever and brilliant when Ellie screams “you’re gonna fucking die!” and you show each one of the WLF members that Ellie kills like Nora, Owen and Mel. Loved how you showed some stuff of Abby too ! Feel no one is editing her story parts, which I understand I suppose.
But for real... from 1:23 and onwards it was absolutely brilliant, perfect editing.

This game (Imho) is something never experienced BECAUSE of Abby. In fact thank to her story we understand that there are not black or white. Just Grey. The thing that make great this game is not Ellie/Joel relationship. But Ellie/Abby dualism and parallelism.
So if you cut off in your montage at least half of the game and you don't include Abby's stuff, you are not going to focus to the real strength of the game. It becomes just a bad story of revenge. Ellie goes on killing everyone and she I goind to be shocked by that. Stop.

I don't fucking get why people dislike this. We knew it was going to be a dark story going into it, and holy fuck did they deliver on that! Best story since Witcher 3 and the first last of us. Only thing I can come to with why people don't like it is either they just read the spoilers and didn't play it and jumped on the hate bandwagon OR they didn't like the fact that ND tried to make us sympathize with the "villain" of the story and made Joel look sort of bad...which we already knew he had done some horrible things. Just doesn't make sense to me, like....the fuck did you expect lol. Oh well, I fucking loved it and it's my favorite game of this generation, right up there with Witcher 3, Spidey PS4, and HL Alyx.

Holy shit, usually I find these kind of edits cringey, but this one was different. Great music choice as well. Got literal chills at the very ending dialogue too, beautifully done man. If you did this all by yourself naughty dog should hire you to make TLOU3 trailer.
This encapsulates the horrific trauma and beauty of tlou2 perfectly. Add the Nirvana nod to the Seattle setting and this becomes absolute perfection.
I was a fan of the first game and when I learnt that Joel died in P2 I wanted nothing to do with it, but then I inevitably played it and I actually ended up loving it and truly understanding it, there are parts that piss me off still but that’s what it’s trying to do in a way, it’s not supposed to end in a way that leaves you feeling good and happy, it is heart wrenching and knocks you down and I can’t help but respect it for that and that’s why I love this game. Not because it leaves me feeling good but because it manages to do the opposite really damn well.

I replayed the first game after the second, to see just how much hate the second one got for no reason at all. And it clicked, the first game for me, is better. Purely how music is conveyed. How the pacing and story unfolds. The second game is twice as longer as the first, not that i complain, but the main music themes didn't click for me as they did in the first game. You know that one by the end of the game. Joel maybe did a lot of horrible things, but he wasn't some kind of murdering monster by the end of it. Yes, he killed the poor doctor who was dumb enough to stand in front of him and wanted to stab him with a scalpel, like how DUMB can you be? And Marlene straight up said to shoot Joel if he doesn't get out. She doesn't even offer him the guns she promised. Just move aside, and nobody gets hurt. Then he SAVES ABBY, and she is dumb to waste it. She deserved to get all their friends get killed. She was a piece of trash and she knew it. She did good things and had a good heart when she opened up, but before that? Not a thing. The other two doctor NPCs are on you. But the gameplay, the graphics, the soundscape. TLOU2 did that better than ANY, ANY game out there. And it is crazy that it runs perfectly on a 2013 system with mind blowing little details that you won't even notice with so many language options, and other little tid-bits. You can play on hard, or you can just waltz. There are many gamers with disabilities. I met one when i was working on the biggest gaming convo here in Croatia (Also having a nice localisation of the game here), and the dude was in a wheelchair, barely holding the controller and could stroll like a madman in Bloodborne with bosses and invasions. He even cosplayed as Gehrman. I mean, say what you will but more games should provde that. Us who want a challenge can always pick Grounded or Permadeath. We can always play From Software games, DMC, Ninja Gaiden, etc. But i learned to love to respect games that don't waste peoples times if they don't want to do so.
So yeah, if the first game is a 10 out of 10, then the second is a 9.5 out of 10 for me. And along with Hades, Noita, Ghost of Tsushima, DMCV: Special Edition and whatever else games we got this year, this might be my favourite. In 2019 i was torn between Sekiro and DMCV, in the end DMCV got the better out of me.

@@pencil6965 Yeah, story, pacing, music and locations were far better. But gameplay felt a lot better in TLOU2. Replayed the first game on grounded, and all i had to do was throw a brick or bottle then melee for an instant kill and stealth the last tunnel, kill one guard in the hospital and throw a smoke bomb at the end. The only hard part is with Ellie (but it's the same, throw something instant kill it or if they gang up on David, instant kill them too. Use the molotov and bomb on the bloater and that's it. Like i said the first game is a 10 out of 10 for me. But in the end i love them both. I was on the hater camp when the leaks came out. But at the last moment, a day before launch i bought it in a hunch, the Deluxe Edition. And i wasn't disappointed.

Still processing this game almost a week after finishing it. But I think I have to agree for my own experience. Might even say best story in a game I have ever experienced for myself!

Watched a few play throughs... I have to agree had they structured the game a little differently... They could have made Abby a likeable character... I also felt like the story could have allowed for more endings.... Instead of "I learned nothing" until I suddenly have a flashback on some random beach after having some fingers bit off. Abby should have been allowed to die, or Ellie, or something... Something more than 1 ending... I have to wonder how many people let Abby die and how many times lol.
That said, Ellie should have been practicing leftie after that lol...
Had they allowed for more than one ending and allowed you as Ellie to kill Abby the meaning in the ending would have been for nothing. They told the story THEY wanted to tell. The meaning would have been lost otherwise and most people would have just killed Abby out of vengeance.
This game goes down as my favorite game of all time. Only to be surpassed by Part 3 when it eventually comes out. Masterpiece my god. I hope Part 3 is a story of retribution for Ellie, as Part 2 was Abbys retribution. Ellie deserves her story of retribution to be told next.

Okay so I literally cried and screamed when Joel died. I was so, so mad to Abby for most of the game, but when I played her more and more... she isn’t bad, she wanted to avenge her fathers unfair death. I understand her motives but the way he killed Joel was unfair. He was unarmed and tortured, unlike Abbys father so it’s shitty from her.
True, burt Nora was also unarmed and tortured .. Ellie also killed everyone when Abby and her friends let her and Tommy live. The message of this story is that revenge leads to nothing but being alone. It was a a very brave decision to tell this, I personally loved seeing both sides and feeling so much emotional anguish. Was a refreshing tale!
I wish I could give a shit about Abby, because the rest of the game is super solid.
And I don't hate Abby because of what she did in the game, I just didn't connect with her character, she wasn't relatable or likable to me specifically.
