I absolutely love his run on Superman. Thanks to his version,we were lucky to get the short lived Ruby Spears Superman animated series based on John’s work on Superman’s 50th Anniversary back in 1988. Plus, his take on Kyrpton was awesome too.
At 4:16, the legend John Byrne makes a point about comics that writers really need to hear again today. A few successors is understandable, but at this point the offshoot superheroes are way too bloated. It's okay to have stories that feature regular ol' civilians!
Byrne really got Superman. So much wrong has been done to the character in recent years. This period, and for about 10 years after, was unquestionably the best Superman ever was.
Interesting to hear him say this about every 15 years . . . 3:39 . . . about 15 years later, they started changing him again, thanks to the popularity of Smallville.
The woman, who's giving the interview, comes across pretty clueless. Her questions are pretty lame. John Byrne, on the other hand, is presented as the legend he is, and one of the most brilliant writer/ artists of Superman ever.
Y por comentarios y gente como tú esa señora nunca va a agarrar un comic de nuevo, están hechos para leer y tomarlos como sea, el lector casual es el que genera dinero no el coleccionista friky
Marvel did the exact same thing with Doctor Strange over the years. Way too God-like powerful as The Sorcerer Supreme. So they had to water him down as The Sorcerer Depowered, and being a weak ordinary man who dabbles with The Supernatural. The Doctor Strange books have been cancelled many times by Marvel over the years by what Byrne is talking about here with Superman being way too powerful that people become uninterested in him anymore.
Superman's physique is unrelated to his strength. He had always been drawn muscular, but there was never an in-story explanation since most comics portrayed him having muscles even when he wasn't on a planet with a yellow sun. Byrne's solution was to explain that Clark Kent was simply athletic and did all of the physical exercise necessary to have a physique like that.
John Byrnes Man of Steel was SUPER
I wish comic creators would go on talk shows again. More people should be reading comics.
I still read comic books despite what my wife and family feels about it for it’s a great form of escapism and entertainment.
@@jeanemlicar It's also a form of art. How close minded do you have to be to not respect an entire medium of art?
I'm eternally grateful to John Byrne for creating the Superman I grew up with.
Superman is still the greatest super hero of all time and mostly due to creators like John Byrne he is still a legend
Probably the greatest comic book artist ever. Magnificent

John Byrne is a legend! Look how young he is!
Damn Byrne was really well spoken
Back when comic book writers were actually intelligent.
john byrne forever

i've been looking for this interview for ages. thanks

Thanks for sharing, Tim!
I love this
El mejor Superman fue y será el de John Byrne! Saludos desde Buenos aires Argentina 🙋♂️
Since Crisis on Infinite Earths had booted our original characters now in the Man of Steel series (John Byrne) has been converted since the 1980's
The new legend beginning!
Interesting to hear him say this about every 15 years . . . 3:39 . . . about 15 years later, they started changing him again, thanks to the popularity of Smallville.
They also recreated Losis and Clark the Adventures of Superman in the 90s. That was the 6th retelling of the man of steel!
Don’t forget about Superboy. The show that came out before Lois & Clark, the new adventures of Superman.
Why is the reporter curling up the issue🤬

Jerry Seigel and Joe Shuster created SUPERMAN not you, John Byrne.
Bryne never said otherwise. In fact, he took Superman back to his Golden Age roots in line with his creators.
Byrne debió advertir a la entrevistadora de cómo no se debe tratar al cómic ya que no es aceptable enrollarlo ni manosearlo tan impúdicamente. Etc.

Comics needs John Byrne back!!
Byrne has a weird shaped head.
@MOBIEUS MOVIES LOLOL ok snowflake boomer
John Byrne illiterate and beautiful silver surfer as well.
"Illiterate"? What makes you think he is unable to read and write?

His ideas were terrible. They’ve since retconned most of the changes Byrne made.
They've been rebooting every 3-5 years since then, so that doesn't mean so much.
The only thing I think he got wrong was making Luthor way over the top dirtbag. With the date raping stuff. It was kind of distasteful.
He's completely clueless, if he's superhuman he should have muscles bigger than the buffest human but he doesn't, what is super about that
Being on a planet with a yellow sun makes him superhuman. So even if he was as skinny as a rake he'd still be superhuman.
@@MagnusMG1 He's subhuman if he can't do something a human can do
@@BF-Gator he’s an alien though
@@kirklew But he's called super man not super alien
