    Favorite Parts:
    1) Cyndi Lauper's solo - nailed it. She thought every artist was laughing at her voice during rehearsal, but it was her bracelets that were making the feedback noise. She said she felt under-dressed, but ended up doing amazing!
    2) Huey Lewis getting nervous amongst his peers because he was not initially scheduled to sing a solo. But he was asked spur of the moment to fill in for Prince. He was amazing and did a fabulous job with his 3-part harmony.
    3) Bob Dylan struggling with his solo, but Stevie Wonder helped him out, playing on the piano and taking the time to rehearse with Bob at 4 in the morning.
    4) Bruce Springsteen with his cheerleading voice bringing this song to another level.
    5) Dionne Warwick - Her voice is just amazing on this track. She stands out for just one single line of singing.
    6) Michael Jackson - He co-wrote this with Lionel. Michael dedicated his heart into this song. He didn't even show up for the AMAs that night so he could be at the studio preparing.
    7) Lionel Richie - He was the glue. He is the most underrated artist and deserves more credit. He helped bring everyone together, which is not easy.
    8) And last but not least, Quincy Jones for orchestrating this magnificent ball of energy into something great for humanity. This songs still plays well today in 2024.

@tarrakis Cyndi, Kim Carnes, and Huey Lewis did several takes improvising harmonies together at the request of Lionel Richie. One thing that held them up is that the people recording kept hearing a clanking sound concurrent with Cyndi's part. Turned out to be her jewelry! In true 80's fashion, she had maybe 10 necklaces, 20 bracelets and long dangle earrings. Everyone laughed, including Cyndi, when they realized the source of the problem. The subsequent take was the iconic bridge we know today!

@@appletree6898 Cyndi initially thought all the artists were laughing at her voice. I could tell she was a little sad. But once she realized that it was her bracelets that they were laughing at (and the beautiful microphone), then she let loose with her amazing voice and this is what we got. Cyndi truly showed up even though her boyfriend told her not to go because the song wasn't going to be a hit. Much respect for Cyndi Lauper after watching the documentary.

The making of this song was truly MAGICAL! So many stars here I grew up with and loved, their combined talent here will never be matched. It breaks the heart to see so many of these artists have passed on. I really noticed the beauty in Michael Jackson's voice, a true Superstar. Kenny Rogers and Tina Turner look so young here, it was 1985 afterall; the 80's really was the very best era for music. R.I.P. to all those who have left us for a better life, you are truly missed!!! As a Malaysian am extremely proud that a Malaysian philanthropist Mr. Ananda Krishnan sponsored the USD 1million for the concert.
Ananda told me that it all happened when one night at a pub in London a gentleman sitting next to him was sharing his sadness of the starved in Africa and he wished he had the funds to organise a concert.. That man was Bob Geldorf ..and he got his wish. ..thank you Tan Sri Ananda Krishnan!!! ❤Marian from Malaysia ❤

I don’t care what anyone says about this song. This was magical. People truly paid attention because of this music. Nothing like this will ever happen again, and that’s a sad fact. It was momentous then, and will ring true forever. So much talent in one place is amazing.
This song along with “That’s What Friends Are For,” and “Do They Know it’s Christmas (BandAid)” are forever locked in my mind. We’ve become so detached that I fear for the future. Love the compilations, and I’ll never forget when I heard each song first. Music magic ✨💖✨

Incredible song. You have singers from almost every genre of music coming together to make an impactful song and they all harmonize wonderfully together. I love the 80s. You basically have every 80s (American) musical superstar (except Madonna). Absolutely amazing.

This was recorded in January 1985. At that time, Madonna had one #1 hit (Like A Virgin) and 3 other chart hits. Had this been recorded a year later, she definitely would have been there.
The biggest 80s star missing here is Prince, who did actually contribute a song to the album.

@@hopegrimsley3427 I just watched that last night, too, and it kind of blew a hole in my Madonna theory. While Madonna wasn't as big as she would become, she was already big enough to be in the discussion. Apparently, there was a behind the scenes debate between whether to include Madonna or Cyndi Lauper, and Cyndi won out. I don't know why they couldn't have invited both.
