- Paula Scanlan speaks about the “incredibly unfair” advantage of her former teammate Lia Thomas, who was the first trans woman to win an NCAA swimming championship.
“I think just looking at this situation, Lia Thomas was the tallest person on both the men’s and women’s team at the University of Pennsylvania,” Ms Scalan told Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan.
“Just the height difference, the muscle difference, the length and bones, the body shape, and also the hormones that males have that women don’t.
“The University of Pennsylvania has never had an NCAA female champion until Lia Thomas came around.
“I think that really shows that our program went from hardly ever having anyone qualify for the NCAA championship to having someone win an event.”
No matter what Lia identifies as, Lia will still need a prostate exam at age 40.

We don't let children provide informed consent. We absolutely have NO business taking a prepubescent child's word for whether or not they think they're "trans." Especially today where trans and "queer" gender ideology pervades social media, selling children a fantasy where being a normal boy or girl is boring or even "offensive," and instead glorifies dressing up like a clown and bossing others around because you feel special. A kid will be drawn to what's popular, much in the way young adults do that too. And considering the *explosion* of young girls who claim they're now boys or even more ridiculous, none of the above because they want to pretend "non binary" is anything other than peak stupidity, the effects that medications like puberty blockers or much worse, male hormones, can make catastrophic permanent changes that will stay with the poor girl long after she realizes she fell for a craze.

It's actually interesting cuz the only women that typically support idiocracy like this would actually be people who haven't ever competed a day in their life in a female and haven't been at a highly competitive for that sport. All I will say on the matter is, when a seemingly small detail such as shaving your legs (in the interest of hydrodynamics) could be the difference between first and second place - don’t even attempt to suggest that a trans woman would not present physiological advantages such as: overall larger body size, more skeletal muscles, higher muscle strength and power, lower body fat, and greater maximal anaerobic/ aerobic energy delivery. People don’t understand the level of sacrifice female athletes have to go through. It’s also ironic that we don’t see the same domination from trans men competing in male categories - probably because they have the physique of a woman…! Women are not little men who lack penises, and their slower times in sporting events do not serve as evidence of mediocrity. Female bodies work differently to males, which is why the separate categories started in the first place. Women’s sport is not a safety net for failed male athletes. When you look at Lia, you do not see the body of a woman. Why is that a moral judgement instead of a statement of fact?! If Lia competes at the olympics, no one will want to watch the event - nor compete against them.
The likes of Lia Thomas have set trans rights back 50 years which is really sad, as I have trans friends - but they all stand firm with my position on protecting women’s sports.

I'm a trans man, and it's true that we're different. The only change that I'd make to your comment is that trans men have the physique of trans men. Trans men on hormones would dominate in women's categories but struggle with success in men's, similar to trans women. Trans men can be as strong as the average man, but with athletes it's a whole different story.
Lea Thomas has the physique of a linebacker, broad shoulders, and all. "A joke," as one team mate put it.
Biological women need to start playing hard ball. When they are called to the blocks before they start the race either walk away or not dive into the pool when the starting gun is fired. So hard to do when you have trained all your life for your Olympic moment. Could you imagine if Lia was the only person swimming an event and all the other women remain standing on the blocks?
I had the same idea. I think they should then reschedule the competition as this would be a unique message. People should also boycott the event. Imagine, no one in the arena and only this dude on the block.

As a transwoman, transwomen should not compete against women in sport, certainly not at a "Representative Level" where a spot could be taken away from a woman who may benefit educationally, financially & further their sporting career. The problem arises when we drop the word trans from woman. No matter how you feel inside, your physical attributes determine how the world sees you. No one minds how you dress or what name you go by, that's your business, but if you've still got male bits, you don't belong in women's spaces. A separate category is the answer if you want to play sport. Reasonable people would see this as an acceptable option.
The male body has less drag in the water too because they don’t have breasts, hips and many times have flatter butts.They male body is more streamlined.
