I have ridden through that tree as a kid. I don't believe it still stands. I'm from California and lived 60 miles from Yosemite. I now live in Oregon and long to visit the big giants. Great find!!
So much fun! My favorite is the Big Tree bottle. I recognized it right away as I saw the car shown driving through it. It's a very iconic tree here in the U.S. Sadly the one it was probably depicting fell in 1969. It was the Wawona Tree, a giant sequoia tree, in Mariposa Grove, Yosemite National Park. The tunnel was dug through it, and others like it, in the late 1800s and early 1900s to encourage automobile tourism. Unfortunately it damaged and weakened the tree, leading to an early death. Others still exist, but are now limited to walking or bicycling traffic only. The bottle you found is absolutely amazing! I love it! 🥳 The tiny vial you found is something straight out of a science fiction movie. It looks like it's full of alien eggs. Watch out, you may start the next Jurassic Park! 😬 The ginger beer bottle repair is epic. Well done! If I had any needed repairs I would definitely trust you with them. I'm sorry Sarah didn't find her blue poison bottle, but I know she will, it's only a matter of time. Thank you for a very fun video. 😀
A lot of respect in your patience and perseverance during your restorations. Always good to observe the rebuilding and colour matching process. I think that the "Big tree" bottle is the best one you've unearthed so far. Happy for you Willie. Giant Sequoia (California Redwood) is the tree on the bottle embossing. There used to be one called "General George", the base of the trunk was cut out and an old photo displays two vehicles side by side passing through it.
Y’all’s videos bring this old woman such joy. I always look forward to the belter song. Never fails to make me laugh. As a Texan hearing me sing 🎤 dirty secrets would make you cringe. Who knew a TH-cam video could teach me history, make me laugh and entertain me so much. Sending thanks 😊 and good wishes to you both.
Enjoyed seeing you both together! I applaud Sarah for filling up BOTH holes… I REALLY believed it! Great finds, I loved Sarah’s little pitcher. Your repair job is stunning! You know what they say about the family that bottle digs together? They use twice as much soap! 🤣🤣🤣
I’m really, really impressed by the thorough response you got from Dean Walters from the Early California Wine Trade Museum. I live just south of California’s wine country, and find California’s history of commercial agriculture fascinating. The chromo-lithographs in the Early California Wine Trade Museum are such great examples of late 19th century graphic design. (The image on the bottle seems intentionally naive, by contrast.) I cannot understand the human response to the natural world sometimes. It boggles my mind that so many people thought the best way to treat 3,000 trees was to cut huge holes in them, so that tourists could drive their cars through their trunks. It’s like humans can’t refrain from destroying every living thing we encounter.
Good to see you and Sarah out digging together between you you both found some fantastic bottles. My favourite is the big tree on it’s beautiful 😍. Thanks for sharing with us x
Thanks Pauline - we had a really nice day together and made some lovely finds too. We live in the same house, so ultimately they're both of our finds anyway! The Big Tree bottle really is a stunner! One of my all time favourites. A pleasure to share! Willie :)

Well done on the bottle repair. It looks amazing. So great to see you and Sarah out digging together. Sarah, you will find that elusive poison bottle, I just know it.
It's always so lovely to see Sarah on ur dogs! That's one amazing bottle that big tree wow! The forest is s so beautiful and green this time if yr!. Thanks Willie and Sarah!! Repairs are perfect too!!
Hi Linda - I completely agree - lovely having Sarah join me digging! The Big Tree bottle is such a stunner! It's on our mantle piece now. The wood is so nice just now. I'm just back from a dig there today - lovely, green and peaceful. Glad you liked the repair job too! Willie :)
You can find a huge amount of history about the bigtree wine bottle on collectors weekly . The article is called “ The forgotten Kingpins who conspired to save California Wine “ written by Ben Marks on December 11th 2015 , good luck 😃
Thanks - I used this article in my research. It was really useful too. It didn’t say conclusively where this bottle was produced though, which is why I contacted the museum in California. They really helped with my research, however, nobody is entirely certain whether it came from America or Australia - even now. Willie 😊
Hello Sarah, Hello Willie, Na let's not forget Jack Spaniels. My goodness what an outstanding dig it was. Everything is wonderful. Being from the U.S.A. I guess I'm a bit partial to the Big Tree wine bottle. Thanks for taking me along. Greetings from North Carolina U.S.A.
I cannot verify the big tree bottle origin but immediately I saw the image I thought giant sequoia tree. That says California. There was a sequoia tree tunnel that was popular for folks to drive through.
Thanks Sandy - yes, we think it's that tree. The car is in the poster, but curiously, it's the poster advertising the wine from Australia! So odd! Willie
Loved every minute of this treasure hunt. So glad l found you guys. Youre a great repair man Willie. I join in others comments about the wonderful giant trees. A crazy idea to cut through them, hopefully no more. Thank you for sharing, Alioban xx
So nice to see Sarah joining you. 😊 The poison bottle is a whopper. How lovely. The big balloon bottle and stopper are beautiful too. Poor Jack, he's missing all the fun. I can imagine he is a lovely handful wherever he is. Nice dig. 💃The small vial bottle maybe has seeds in it to make a tincture. I wouldn't try it. It's probably too old, lol. Great repair. Love it.
That Big Tree bladder bottle... Just Wow. (!) When the pioneers found the huge sequoias and redwoods out west/California, they were amazed. And yes. They were easily big enough to drive a car through (and they did!). No longer- for obvious reasons. Maybe you should check out Mass River Pickers' channel. I'm sure they'd be happy to try to answer your questions about that bottle! They hunt a local river among other locations, and they seem to be very up on bottles. They're collectors and appear to know their stuff. A decent place to start your query. LOL-- I knew that was a 'snake' buckle the moment she showed it. Great finds and saves asll around! Thanks for taking us along for the fun ; )
Thanks - loved reading the info on the sequoias! I'll check out their channel - will be amazing if they have any more info on the bottle. Thanks for joining us on the adventure and for commenting! Willie :)

I wish I could help with the 'Big tree' bottle but I have never seen one before, it is stunning though, what a wonderful find! I really admire your patience with the colour matching, if it was me it would have been out of the window after half an hour lol. You did a brilliant job! Great video as always, good to see Sarah 😀💗 x
Hi Amanda - I agree - great timing with the pipe bowl! That poison is a belter! I doubt I'll ever find another one like it! The Big Tree bottle is definitely up there in my top 10 bottles ever! And thanks - glad I could get the repair done. It was certainly challenging..! Always fab to have Sarah join me on a dig! She just said hi! Willie :)
3:55 Sarah, that flower looks like the Prairie Rose, one of the symbols of North Dakota. I'd love to see you paint that, on a vintage paper, for posting on Etsy.---That back shot of Willie's Belter Dance was priceless!---I hope you find more on that Big Tree wine bottle. In regards to the Big Tree Wine bottle, you could check out Adventure Archology, Brandon is an antique bottle guy and very knowledgeable. So try his channel.
You said you never seen the tree before. I have seen the real tree and postcards of it all my life the famous drive-thru tree is here in Humboldt County, California, USA. It is to be found on the Avenue of the Giants. Most modern cars are too large to drive thru it. So though I know nothing about the winery, I do know the tree. It is Redwood, sequoia semperviron. Just love drumstick squashes, my favourite, absolutely yummy. Also like the lolly version, delicious. P.s Love watching the films you and Sarah make. Keep up the great work.
Willie, You did an excellent job recovering the bottle, it is rather impressive! You had some grand belters also, I love the large green Gerrett & Co and Big Tree bottles. A favorite was the wee green decorative bottle, it has amazing color and shape. The panel bottle is one I have come to love very much. I have gotten a wee Daddies bottle, unfortunately it was damaged during shipment and the side corner was broken out but I was shocked to see how thin the side panel glass was in the panel bottle sides. The bottoms are usually not level and I LOVE the color and bubbles. I loved how well the G&C Moore turned out, the color is fabulous and I love the bubbles in the base besides the gorgeous blob top. This one might have been my favorite but then you always pull out something else and it becomes my favorite lol The birds singing was such a thrill to hear, I love when the sing all the time... the Bible says to "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord" and I assume that is how it should sound instead of my moaning and croaking hahaha Too bad Jack doesn't dig where you direct him too lol would make a great part of the whole affair LOL. Great job sir and I can not wait for you to hit 7000!!!!
Sarah, nice to see the Haviland china shard. I received a whole set of Haviland China from my great aunt for a graduation gift, and it is similar, but in yellow flowers. Beautiful!!
35.14. That looks like one half of a nurses buckle. Also, I saw a restoration where the person mixed their paint on a sheet of acetate over a white page, they could then lift the sheet and lay it directly over the piece to check the colour before applying.
That’s a very interesting idea. Of course acrylic paints darken as they dry, so it would be best to blow dry the paint to confirm the ultimate true color

The tiny little bottle with the little round things in it may be capers...
Thanks Dave - we think they're a little too small for capers, but a good suggestion! Willie :)
I think it's best that the ginger beer restoration still displays evidence of the cracks. A nice honest restoration! I'm still jealous of it 😂
I agree Richard. If you erase the damage completely, you erase the history too. The cracks are part of the story. Willie :)
